Batman: Death of the Family Motion Comic Episode 1
Project Overview
Hello. Thanks for clicking on this.
I'm Noah Hakvern and I'm the director/editor of this project. I'm making the 5 part motion comic mini series of Batman: Death of the Family. We well be only doing the 5 issues from the Batman part of the story. I have no plans on doing the other POV side stories from Jokers/Batgirl/Nightwing/RedRobin/JasonTodd/Robin.
There are a lot of parts so I'm going to have to make a new casting call every issue. In this issue specifically I will need a great deal of recurring characters such as Gordon and the Bat family.
PLEASE WATCH THE ROUGH DRAFT! It is always very obvious when people audition and they haven't seen it. When I give out lines for the characters for auditions, I choose scene specific lines that are more complex than just reading. I know it's 20 minutes long, and I know that's a pain in the butt. But If you really want to be apart of this, you are going to have to AT LEAST watch your scenes.
What I ask for:
1) Decent microphone. You do not need a professional microphone but either you or myself should be able to clean your audio to make it sound clear from hisses, hums, background noises, or my parents yelling. You should be competent enough to be able to yell without peaking the audio. If you don't know how to do that, there are a lot of very helpful videos online that can help (it's actually pretty simple)
2)Two or three takes per line. For lines, I would appreciate if you gave variations of each line. It decreases the likelihood of me asking for redoes. I try not to ask for retakes without purpose. For example maybe if the line had a bit more anger or more sarcasm it would fit the scene better. I only try to get the best performance out of the people who voice in the motion comics I make and I don't ask for them with the subtext that you were not good enough, rather that I think you can do better.
3) Three week deadline. While not set in stone, I tend to want the lines for the episode given to me within 3 weeks. If you need more time, that's fine. But whats more important is that you actually have the intention of doing the lines. I have only had to recast 1 person so....lets not make it two haha.
And I think that's it. Basic stuff really, unwritten rules and such but I just thought I put them out there.

Hey everyone! Noah here. Firstly, I want to thank everyone who auditioned. As well as to all who followed the project. Thanks! With the casting call over, I am glad with who I've been luckily to cast thus far. Unfortunately, I was not able to cast all the characters, with some not having the right voice, or no one auditioning for the part. However, I plan to continue with what we have here. Everyone who is cast will still do their lines for Episode 1 and I will open another casting call for the remaining characters and in time, hopefully soon, the roles will be filled and lines sent in. A minor setback, but nothing too difficult to deal with. Thanks again for those who shown interest. With the roles not cast, and you think you want to audition again, I welcome you to find the new casting call I'll be making in the upcoming days. - Noah Hakvern
A man in his late 50's, James Gordon is the honest cop who changed the police force from complete corruption to...mildly corrupt. As Gotham Commissioner, James allows Batman and his family to provide much needed help to Gotham PD.
As for voice, I would like Gordon to sound like an actual older man. Gary Oldman from the Dark Knight films is nice example. Doesn't need to be an aggressive voice. Gordon yells at some points during the 5 parts of Death of the Family so please be prepared for that.
(An opening monologue, where Gordon is making up what reporters and people would write in the papers about how the police treated the 'bad omens' before the next big crime. A hypothetical speech. But he says it somewhat slow and deliberate.)
'In hindsight, there were signs... Omens of the terrible things to come. The first one came with the rains...
With the early snows blocking it's mouth, the rains flooded the Gotham River, actually reversing its course for three full days.
The second sign came soon after. A lion at the Gotham Zoo gave birth to a deformed cub. A cub with two heads.
Rivers running backwards. Beasts born wrong... We should have seen it coming
(Joker shuts power off to the GCPD, leaving it in darkness. Gordon and his officers are being picked off one by one. Gordon is frightened, angry. Gordon finds his flashlight. Please watch the video to make sure your acting matches the drawing) 'SHOW YOURSELF, you monster! (aims flashlight) wha-where...'
(Batman and Gordon have a small meeting before Gordon has to get back to protecting Mayor Hady. Gordon then asks if Batman can sense the fear Gordon is trying to hide) Hmm... All right, I'm going to get back.... (clears throat) Uh, It...it doesn't show on me, does it? You can't...hear it, I mean. In my voice?
Harvey Bullock, loud mouthed detective with a serious New York (or I guess it's called Manhattan?) accent. Age: Mid 30's to 40. He shows up a few times, although minor character compared to the main.
The video link below shows a scene with Harvey Bullock in Batman the animated series. If you can't do the accent, that's fine, just try to find a voice that fits the character.
(Sharing his slight fear of whatever is the next big crime, people will think it's supernatural)
"Hell, I'm just saying...with the river, the two headed kitty...whatever the hell is the next big crime is, it'll have the push of superstition behind it. We should all get ready for some blame.
(After Gordon not taking Harveys advice seriously) 'Seriously though, commissioner...that lion giving birth... everyone there to see, all the kids with their balloons? And what comes out but some...two headed monster?
Officer Daniels is the officer that Gordon speaks to just before Joker rips through the GCPD. I imagine her with a similar voice like Gordon and Harvey, with a light New York accent. But that's up to you.
30 years old most likely.
(She comes to Gordon after he enters the police offices) "Commissioner, we found these twenties in a hot spot in The Narrows. The iodine test was clean, though. You want me to order more analysis?'
(After Gordon shows her how to tell the fake money was indeed fake) "But how can you tell?"
"Seriously?... What the- how did I not catch that?"
Later 20's, early 30's, Officer Guadalupe became one of the people Joker killed when he came back to Gotham.
(After Joker shuts the power at GCPD and revels himself to the officers in the darkness. Nervous) 'Joker? Joker is in here?'
(Joker singles out Guadalupe, aiming to kill him. Guadalupe is scare with perhaps erratic breathing) 'Don't. D-don't'
(Quick gasp and effort noise when Joker snaps his neck)
Bradtree is an officer of the GCPD and a victim of Joker.
(After Joker shuts the power off to the GCPD, leaving it in darkness) 'Everyone, watch out! It's Joker! He's in the room!'
(Joker calls out to Bradtree with obvious killing intent) 'N-no! Please stay away!'
(Grunt of Bradtree's neck being snapped)
An officer of the GCPD and victim of Joker. Dies by neck break.
(After Joker turns off the power to the GCPD and makes himself known in the dark) 'Joker?'
(Joker calls on McCabe, with killing intent. Joker grabs him, McCabe fights back) ' *grunts* Get off me you-!
And older gentleman, Alfred Pennyworth has been the loyal butler to Bruce Wayne since he was a infant. With a wide background such as being a stage actor, a secret agent and amazing sandwich maker, Alfred has proven himself time and time again to the Batfamily through thick and thin.
In this story, Alfred is eventually attacked so there will be screaming. And laughing. Joker gives Alfred laughing gas
In his mid 60's, typical English accent .https://youtu.be/0-dxmWOviyw?t=164
(Batman back at the Batcave, trying to find clues to point where Joker is, Alfred walks in) 'You must have known he'd be back sometime...'
(Slightly nervous of the grave news of Jokers return, talking to Bruce while he sits at the computer) He stayed away so long this time, I imagined I allowed some small part of myself to become hopeful we'd seen the last of him... But I suppose, Master Bruce, if that rack of vials is grim evidence of anything, it's-
( Demented laughing. Trying to hold back. Joker poisons Alfred and the Batfamily and Alfred talks through the laughing to stop everyone from killing themselves He laughs as he pushes back Damian and DIck) HEHAHA-ah- No! Hehe-No! Hahaha-F-f-family! Hehehe F-f-f-family!!'

A 13 year old prodigy and heir to the cowl. Arrogant due to his upbringing, much smarter than the average person.

Even though it's probably super rare, I would like to find an actual 13-14 year old kid to voice Damian because I have a slight pet peeve of older people trying to voice kids. However, the actor whose voice fits the character will get the role, not someone who just sounds like a kid.
Damian eventually becomes hit with Jokers laughing gas. Uncontrollable laughter. And yelling.
(Skeptical of Joker as a real threat after hearing Alfred talking about fearing him. Slight arrogance in his voice) 'Fear? Heh, come on, Pennyworth. Maybe Joker used to be some great adversary of my father, but he's over now.'
(continued from last line) 'I mean, he allowed some second rate Dr. Frankenstein to get the better of him and cut off his face. Then he slunk off for a year to lick his wounds. And so now he comes back and steals his old rotten face from the G.C.P.D. ice box. So what?
(uncontrollable laughter after Joker poisons him and the Batfamily, he tries to fight it while also trying to stop himself from killing others) Hehehehahah! I'm here! I'm here-hehehaha!
( this is the page where Damian Laughs https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/Batman-Death-of-the-Family/Full?id=72065#147 )
The first Robin Boy Wonder, Dick Grayson. Mid 20's. Age and experience has given him levity with most dire situations. He has already proved himself with Batman and has made himself a name in Bludhaven.
(Nightwing calling Batman after finding out about Joker) 'Batman, Nightwing calling in...is it true? He's back?'
(Trying to let Batman know that he can count on him and the others) 'Batman, we can help on this one.'
(Forced laughter from the Joker laughing gas, fighting it) Hahaha-no! Haha s-s-stop. Stop!'

Barbara Gordon. Possibly 20. Daughter of Commissioner Jame Gordon, Barbara became Batgirl in her teens.
In terms of voice, there have been a few great versions of Batgirl, but for the sake of simplicity and for the sake of I can't actually find any good videos, here is a compilation of Ashley Greene voicing Batgirl in Arkham Knight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOiGbvOuazA
(Calling into the Batfamily, annoyed that Batman didn't tell her that Joker went to the GCPD) 'Batman, Batgirl. Why didn't you say anything?'
(Continued from last line. Batman tries to explain that he thought Comm. Gordon would tell Barbara because Batman didn't actually want to deal with telling her himself. Barbara is annoyed by that) No- ABOUT the commissioner. Why didn't you tell me that piece of trash came after him?! ....(scoff/sigh) Look, never mind. What do you have on him?
(Forced laughter from being infected with Joker toxin, not a real line from the comic, but something to say while laughing) 'Hahaha- Everyone! S-stop! Stop-haha-fighting!'

The third Robin.Early 20's
Dubbed the smartest Robin, although that doesn't really show up in Death of the Family. I would say he has a average older teen voice. Younger than Dick and Jason, older than Damian in terms of how old his voice sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgabYEC9FMg
(Red Robin Calling in to Batman/Nightwing) Batman, Red Robin... So, how'd he do it? (asking how Joker attacked the G.C.P.D)
Red Robin being almost impressed by Joker using police tech on the GCPD building to turn off the power) 'Heh, use the police's own weapon against them. It's almost funny. And the generator?'
(Forced laughter from Jokers toxin, trying to fight it) 'Hahaha-s-s-stop fighting! Hehaha-ff-famil!'

Son of Henry Claridge, the first person Joker killed publicly.
In the scene that John appears, Joker has used him as puppet, leaving John in front of a camera, but Jokers arms in place of John (Johns arm was tied behind his back).
John is incredibly scared and nervous. He is being forced to read the words that Joker gave him and his voice is wavering due to his emotional duress.Breathing hard as well. There is a point where Joker tells him to try harder or he'll kill him, so John forces himself to be louder.
I still would love if you watched the Rough Draft but I did add a filter over the images like that of an old TV station so it's hard to see it. Although it'll give you more of an idea of what to do.
(Scared, Stammering, John is forced to pretend his is Joker on TV. Johns voice is weaker than the words he says) H-hell...Hello gothamites...It's s-so good to be b-back. What? Don't you recognize me? It's J-J-Joker. I was awaAhhh (slight groan, liking being hurt but not loudly as Joker hits Johns head)
(After Joker threatens John, John tries harder but still obviously very scared) It's me! Joker! I was away for a little while, yes, but I'm back!
(Little louder, almost a yell, trying desperately to not be killed) NOW I'M BACK! The city was calling to me, you see!? Calling me back to serve! So here I am, and I come bearing news from afar! And that news is this: Mayor Hady dies at midnight. The Joker has spoken.
Later 30's mayor of Gotham. Not too many lines. He at first doesn't consider Joker a real threat. I imagine him with a deeper tone voice ( not bass, but pitch). I also imagine him with a New York type accent. Not unlike Bullock. Actually, people who audition for Bullock should probably audition for Hady as well.
(Taking to Gordon, telling him that he is safe in his office. Hady is tired of the police in his office) There's no way in. Everything's sealed up...The glass is bulletproof. The walls are three feet thick on this floor. It's a fortress, Gordon.
(Still talking to Gordon) That damn clown has no way in. Now you've tested enough of my blood to drown a vampire. You're pumped me full of enough of that vigilante's Bat-antidote to turn me into one.
(Finale line of Hady, giving into Gordon wanting to put up protection detail) Fine, fine. If it makes you feel better, but keep them on that side at least, will ya? The soles of your standard issues scuff up the floor. I just it cleaned last week. (cares more about his floor)
A small two line character. Joker attacks the guards and police officers at Mayor Hadys office. They are poisoned and blood pours out of their body. Very gruesome and painful.
(Yelling as if their mouth is going through rigor mortis, struggling to say anything) *hacking coughing up blood* H-help me-eeee!
(Pleading for Batmans help, dying as their face is frozen to a frown) BATMAN! P-p-pleeaaazzzee!!!
Harley Quinn, still tethered to an emotionally, mentally, and physically abusive relationship with the Joker. Depending on what story it is her backstory changes. But more often than not, she has a strong New Yorker accent, quick to fight, and quicker with wit. She lives only to serve the Joker.
In this story, even Harley is scared of the Jokers new plan. She shows up again in the first part of episode 2.

Besides Arleen Sorkin, Hynden Walch, in my opinion has a great Harley Voice. Hyndens Quinn is a slightly darker version of Arleen.
(After trapping Batman in a vat of acid, pretending to be the Joker. She reveals herself, but she is scared of the Jokers new plan. She thinks Joker has gone too far) 'He’s not the same, Bats. He’s not my Mr. J anymore.... And what he’s going to do to you...his plan... I can’t.'
(10 minutes before she fights Batman. When she and Joker meet for the first time in a year. Cautiously happy to see him again) *sound as if you are looking for Joker in the pit of darkness* 'I’ve missed you, you know? It’s been over a year... But I can’t see you... come into the light. Where are-?
(still in darkness, Joker throws Harley an outfit to dress her up as Red Hood) *almost weirded out, perhaps slight nervous laugh* Uh, the padding in here is pretty intense, Mr. J.....And the platforms on these shoes... I’ll be your height. Have your build. I’ll look just like you.
