Baba Yaga's Mobile Homes (Cartoon Short)

Baba Yaga's Mobile Homes (Cartoon Short)

Project Overview

Baba Yaga is a popular figure in Russian folklore-- she is an eccentric witch who, instead of riding a broom, roams around the countryside in the comfort of her own home. A home that walks around on chicken legs.

My version of Baba Yaga isn’t just a witch-- she’s an entrepreneur who sells moving homes to other fairytale figures. Although, not all of them are as enthusiastic about her sales pitch as she is.

A fun 2 minute animated short with an assortment of colorful characters!

*Must have a way to meet with me to discuss role/lines. Discord preferred.

Please no more than three takes per line. You may audition for multiple roles.  Prices are negotiable (though keep in mind I don't have a large budget!)

  • Deadline approaching

There are still a few days left before the audition closes. If you are a bit late to the game feel free to keep sending in auditions after the deadline-- it will take me a week to message the voice actors on my shortlist and narrow down the candidates. Thank you all so much for auditioning!

Send me a demo of things that you've worked on-- I'm looking for someone who could compose an instrumental that's zany and fun. Experience scoring films is a plus. I will work with you to time out sound cues to fit the tone of the narrative.

Songs that fit the vibe of the film (instrument wise):

Absurd -- david fesliyan (this is the closest to what I want)
The music in Chowder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdwlH4pAr0w&t=288s
the end credits of gumball https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30lgcIzA5QM

Baba Yaga is a dramatic, upbeat, showhorse-style salesperson. She's zany, overconfident, more than a little bit dense, and likes to hear herself talk. Her personality is a mixture between Edna Mode (incredibles) and Jester from critical role.  A medium to low voice rather than high pitched. Though I put her down as "ageless" I'm mostly looking for middle aged or senior-- if a younger voice fits enough I will take it. She is Russian but you DO NOT need to do a russian accent.

  • Now everybody asks me, "Oh Baba Yaga please help me find a home!" And of /course/ I do. I'm Baba Yaga-- EXPECT NO LESS.

*Speaking notes: She is speaking to a client and tooting her own horn. When lines are in quotations it means she is mimicking someone. In this case she is a imitating a "desperate client" almost to the point of sounding sarcastic. Then she gets in the client's face-- "expect no less" she says like a challenge.

  • "Eh? EH? Now are you convinced?"

*she's kind of playfully jabbing the client in the ribs, eyebrows wiggling.

  • "Hey how would you like to-- Ma'am may I interest you in a-- SIR CAN I OFFER YOU A DEAL-- HELLO THERE-- My name is-- BABA YAGA-- and I-- Would like to offer-- AMAZING DEAL-- DREAM HOUSE-- last chance!-- (sigh) maybe a... /different/ approach..."

*A montage of Baba Yaga going up to anyone she sees, trying different sales pitches. Imagine she's standing in various doorways, getting the door slammed in her face over and over again. Each line is a bit different from each other as she tries different methods "polite salesperson" "aggressive sales person" "Billy Mays" "singing sales person" these are a few suggestions. The last line is her feeling defeated-- stress the line "different."

Baba Yaga corners Tortoise who was, unfortunately, too slow to get away. Now he must suffer through her sales pitch until the end.
He's the straight man in their duo. He's serious, snarky, grumpy, tired, sarcastic. He tries to be polite but gradually gets more and more annoyed with her as the short goes on.

I image he could sound similar to  the Brain (pinky and the brain) or  David Ogden Stiers (his roles as Jumba, Mr. Maellard, or even cogsworth). Feel free to experiment with him.

  • Look, I'm sure you're a.... (looking for the right word) capable salesperson, but I'm just not in the

market for a house. So if you'll please LET ME GO. I'll be on my way."

*You're trying to let her down gently. When you say "capable" you don't really believe what you're saying. You are still forcing sweetness when you say the line "so if you'll please" and then through clenched teeth say "Let me go" then back to sweet.  For context, he is trying to pry Baba Yaga off of him and she physically will not release him.

  • Please keep your razzle dazzle to yourself.

*this could be said in a tone like "Oh please god no" or "Not again"

  • (Angrily) You can't just hold people hostage to sell them things they don't need!

(Baba Yaga: But commercials do that all the time)

I just- gah- I- UGHHH. (slight pause) Please. Just. Leave me alone"

*He starts off angry then he makes a frustrated noise after she speaks. Head in his hands he begs her to leave him be.

  • Now I can take my business on the road! (EVIL WITCH LAUGH)

*She's rubbing her hands together, plotting

  • When terrible children ate me out of house and home, Baba Yaga helped me relocate.

A sweet old lady who lives on the edge.

  • I'm much more mobile now thanks to Baba Yaga, just like the good old days.

*She's being interviewed. She's very sweet and kind, reminiscing.

  • EAT MY DUST COPPERS! YEEE-HAW!

*She's evading the police. The last bit doesn't have to be "Yee-haw" it could be "Bonzai!" Or something similar. She's gunning her car on the last line so do what feels best.

One of the three little pigs. He's enthusiastic. He could sound like Kermit the frog, Garfield the Deals Warlock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52tyTAFo2rc , or just very southern.  If you do a funny voice just make it understandable.

Not sure if this is needed-- the chicken legged hut is non-verbal but I thought it would be interesting to have it make some sort of noise. It could be a chicken noise, an instrument, etc.
