Project Scope/Work LoadThis will be a 30s-1m long animatic/PV trailer. Voicelines will be very short sound bites that will be edited/interspliced in a trailer/montage style format. The trailer will be in the form of an animatic with full color and minimal animation/no lip syncing. The character with the most lines is the MC, Augustus, with about 10+ lines from the initial script. Other characters have from 1-3 lines.
There is an initial script but this script is very fluid and will be edited based on available VAs/their suitability.
I am doing this project as fulfillment for a proejct in university. This casting call serves as an initial temperature check to see if I can find any suitable voice actors to work on this project. This project's MAIN component is its comic—and the trailer is purely promotional + for a project at school. The submissions will be reviewed with my college professor, and we'll evaluate the feasibility of working on a full trailer based on submissions.
Please don't feel any pressure to audition in a certain way—I'm most looking forward to hearing cool voices and other people's unique interpretations of the characters.

This goes without saying(?), but all voice actors will be credited.
Please only audition if you are 18+
Please read the description of the characters. If it's too long, pay attention to tone and context clues from how the dialogue is written. Keep in mind character art and the voice tags/descriptions given.

Please do not modify the voice lines unless it's REALLY not working out and changing a few words makes line delivery easier. I understand that I'm not the best at writing dialogue, so feel free to make the lines more natural if they help your audition. Just know that I'll still use final discretion based on any changes you make.
Based on submissions, I may reach out to you to invite you to work on the project. I will add you to a discord group with selected VAs to finalize the next steps.

Augustus is a merman...but his true dream is to be an office worker! From this description alone you can probably tell he's not exactly the brightest. He is air-headed with a go-getter personality, but has moments where he's sober/more serious. Underneath his naivety and absurd dreams, is a longing desire to become human. Unfortunately, he believes the key to being human is working a 9-5.
VOICE: His voice is not too deep! It is on the higher side. He speaks very enthusiastically! But then it gets deeper when he speaks seriously. Sounds like a bright-eyed young adult man (24-25). A lot of his voice lines sound cringe so this is an uphill battle to find a balance between well-intentioned idiot and humor.

- (flustered/nervous/yelling like a soldier) -- "I-I’m the new intern, I was hired today, sir!"
- (dejectedly/self-reflection, deeper than normal) -- "It turns out...being a human's harder than I thought it'd be."
- (looking at clock): "It's 5PM, shouldn't we head home?"
(hugging Marine after reuniting with her): “IT’S ME! AUGUSTUS! I MADE IT! Escaping was actually so easy, i didn't need to wait that long! And I can also hide my scales, though I’m not that good at it yet, Oh! And--
(says this under his breath/really fast because he doesn't want Marine to pick this up)
--> [I stole some wind pearls from Aalto] so breathing on land is no problem—!”- (self-reflective) -- "It confused me at first…But jobs are important to humans. Humans...love jobs, right? I mean, all humans have jobs. They have a goal. They make a salary. They work a 9-5 and get weekends off. That’s how it is… right? Humans work. They work every day of their life...It seems simple then. To be a human, I just need to work. If I'm not working...am I even human?"

Mason Warner is the Team Leader of the office / Augustus's boss. On the outside he seems put-together, with the vibe of a mature, competent man. In reality he's battling stomach ulcers, insomnia, and chronic migraines that cause his vision to fail or get blurry. VOICE: His voice is gentle-sounding(?), but still very authoritative/commands respect. He likes efficiency and speaks quickly but sighs a lot. Sounds very smart. He gets rattled when he meets nonsensical/absurd people or scenarios.
Voice Inspirations/References: Kageyama (Haikyuu), Trafalgar Law (One Piece, ENG or JP).

- (To his doctor): "(Sigh) If I wanted someone to nag me, I’d go to a shrink.”
- MASON: (To Director Dunn): “My doctor has recommended I stop smoking and drinking due to my stomach ulcers.”
DIRECTOR DUNN: [SAY NOTHING, simply pause for the space to insert other VA line)]: "Ulcers at your young age? So what, you’re saying you have it worse than us old folks, is that it? And who the hell hired that Intern?!"
MASON: "I left the selection process to Stacy, but ultimately made the final decision. I will take full responsibility for training him." - (To Augustus): "I hired you, so your actions directly reflect onto me. You need be more tactful in the future.
- (To Augustus, apprehensive yet in awe/ amused): "Are you that happy? It's just a an ad proposal."
- “I thought that the best luck in my life was landing a high-ranking position straight out of college….but in no time, winter will come again, and I’ll be turning 30. I work 14 hours a day, and sleep for 3. I have a car, but the subway is easier to take to work. I have a decent apartment, but I barely use it besides sleeping. I have 2 loving parents, but I’m too busy to see them. I have 24hours in a day, but It’s never enough. Unless I get an amazing incentive, I barely have enough money left over to buy toilet paper. But still, a guy like me...wouldn’t you say I’ve made it?
- (To Augustus): "I had an inkling from before, but your proposal confirmed my suspicions. In the planning team, our proposals aren’t that poetic or meaningful. We come up with the scope, but the creative team adds all the bells and whistles. We give them the theme, and they design peripherals, shoot the ads, hire models, add music...All we do is research and plan the logistics. What I'm saying is...I think you'd be better suited for the creative team."
- (To Augustus, defeated): "(Sigh) Don’t speak elaborately for my sake. It's as you’ve described. There is no greater purpose to making ads. We work hard for hours, for days and weeks and months. But a single word from a client can throw aside your hard work in a matter of seconds."

Director Dunn is a classic old man villain. Petty, angry, complains. He thinks all the young workers are incompetent and ungrateful, and wants to retain his position as long as possible, even into retirement.
VOICE: Gruff, nasally, grating, annoying. Upon hearing his voice, it makes your blood pressure rise/makes you want to punch him. Scratchy, but has a large presence/booming resonance. Like your grandpa, but barking at you. He's corrupt and speaks with a very accusing tone of voice, as if everyone is out to get him.
Voice Lines (PICK ANY 3): (please only say Director Dunn's lines):
- DIRECTOR DUNN: "Why aren't you smoking with me? Too good for that now, are you?"
MASON: "My doctor has recommended I stop smoking and drinking due to my stomach ulcers."
DIRECTOR DUNN: “Ulcers at your young age? So what, you’re saying you have it worse than us old folks, is that it?!” - "WHO’S TRYING TO LEAVE?! IS IT THAT NEW INTERN?! THESE YOUNGSTERS—WHAT, YOU CLOCK IN LATE AND LEAVE EARLY, IS THAT IT?!”
- (to Mason): "You little smartass. Benefit this benefit that, don’t think you’ll slip away repeating the same crap from earlier today! Don’t think just cause the CEO likes you, you're untouchable, Warner. I’ve got people in my corner too.”
- (to Mason, about Augustus) “Forget that.” [he waves cigarette]. “Director Morgan’s nephew needs a summer job. Fire that kid."

Marine is Augustus' best friend and a former palace guard/mermaid. She moved to the human world to pursue her dreams of becoming a stunt double in blockbuster films. Now, her new dream is to make rent.
She works as a cashier at WcBonalds and allows Augustus to crash at her place on the condition that he helps her pay the rent. She lands him a job at a top ad agency by calling in a very uncomfortable favor to her ex, who works as Mason's secretary at the company.
VOICE: Marine has a slightly deeper voice, but that's because she's trying to act tough. She gives delinquent energy, who secretly has a heart of gold. She shouts a lot, and you can tell that she used to be lively, but now she's jaded and pessimistic. Also a tsundere, "It's not like I'm friends with you or anything", that kind of embarrassed energy. If you can capture Marine's loveable yet false machismo, I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVER TYSM!!
TL;DR She acts as if she doesn't care about Augustus or thinks he's stupid, but in reality she worries for him and sees parts of her past self in him.

- "He's not a friend...he's just a renter. In fact, if I let him out on the streets, he'd just get duped by people who are even worse than I am. Really, that guy's so slow, he'd frustrate any scammer to death. His stupidity is a national level threat. In that sense...I'm just doing my civic duty. So it's not because we're friends or anything, don't get it twisted."
- (weary/bored): "Welcome to WcBonalds, will you be using the mobile app today......Ok, what would you like to order."
- - MARINE: "Recently i've taken in a stray cat. He has black fur, blue eyes, and he keeps eating random crap off the floor."
- AUGUSTUS, in the middle of eating random crap off the floor: "What are you saying Marine? I've lived here for months and you don't have a cat!"
- MARINE: "Yeah...a goldfish is more like it." - "You don't understand Augustus. Dreams almost never come true the way you want them to. Some never come true at all. Not everyone was raised with a silver spoon like you were. Not everyone's coddled by their father, or has amazing powers, or has endless optimism. Sometimes, it's OK if your dream is just to eat a tasty sandwich, or score a nice pair of shoes, or make enough to pay the rent this month. Ever since I came to the human world, those are the types of dreams I have. The only dreams I have are realistic. The only dreams I have are when I'm wide awake.
- (to Augustus) "YOU IDIOT! You can't talk about that, what if people hear you! (sighs) First of all, let's head inside."
- (to Aalto, Augustus' older brother/god of wind): "I don't like you. You only ever cared about yourself, and you never looked out for anyone else. But your brother's dying. He still sees you as his big brother, and like some sort of idiot, he fully believes living and dying for this stupid dream and stupid love story is totally his fault. And it's not. You know it's not. You're the all-powerful god of wind....So do something, you jackass."

Fallon Stacy is the Secretary for Ad Planning Team A. She's also Marine's ex. She's very confident, knowledgeable, and slightly intimidating.
In the PV Fallon will have around 1-2 lines, so this is a very minimal role.
VOICE: Fallon has a more sultry, yet business-like voice. Think Lisa from Genshin Impact, but toned down (less sultry) and more professional.
VOICE LINES:
- (to Augustus, who is worried he's going to get fired): "Don’t worry about earlier. The Team Leader hired you. So the Director can’t get rid of you that easily.”
- "Anyways, follow me to your desk."
- Since things are a bit busy right now...I'll cut to the chase. Your first task will be a report. In a few minutes I'll send you some documents."
- "Create a brand startegy report...and present it to the Team leader by the end of the work day."
- (to Mason, about Augustus. Fallon and Mason are old friends): "Hahaha. To think that the Mason Warner would turn into a clumsy, pathetic mess like this.” [She covers her mouth]. “You should see the look on your face."

June is the cynical, sarcastic, high-performing researcher of Ad Planning Team A. They're non-binary (they/she/any pronouns).
June speaks in a monotone tone of voice, but what separates them from Marine is that where Marine will sometimes get flustered, frazzled, or angry, nothing ever changes June's expression. They are the cold, unflappable king of facial paralysis. Very quick-witted, snarky quips, and generally disparages every figure of authority that they don't respect.
VOICE: Monotone, cold, medium-pitched (not deep(?)). They're non-binary, so an androgynous-sounding voice would fit well.
VOICE LINES (pick any 3):
- (to Augustus, at a company dinner): "Seeing the Team Leader made me believe in meritocracy again. Otherwise I'd have left this slaver company by now."
- (scowling, about Director Dunn): "That old fart better not pmo."
- (about Director Dunn): "In my neighborhood there's a dog that's always barking late a night. He barks at the wind, and he barks at his own shadow. Everyone ignores him. Director Dunn is like that dog."
