WARNING, THIS AUDIO DRAMA CONTAINS TOPICS OF SUICIDE. THIS IS A DISCLAIMER FOR ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE READING ABOUT THIS SORT OF THING.


     Fast Enough is going to be an audio drama that depicts suicide and one of the many ways to cope with it; finding friends and family to love. This whole project started out as a monologue for a scriptwriting class but then turned into a fully-fledged script for a short film. I got the idea for making it an audio drama when I realised how good it would sound to just listen to the story. It lets you imagine the characters the way that you want to, and you can give them your own characteristics. You can put yourself into the character.



Synopsis:
     Ian has had a very hard life and has finally decided that it's time to end it. He has been thinking about committing suicide for quite a while and is finally thinking about acting upon it. While Ian is standing on the ledge of the bridge, about to jump, Alec is walking along and sees him. Alec comes over to Ian and talks to him. At first, Ian does not want to talk, but the more he listens to Alec the more he finds himself smiling and laughing. Alec, to get Ian to come down, tells a story about the Flash (Because Ian is wearing a Flash t-shirt) that he totally made up. This calms Ian down enough for Alec to convince him that he should go out and have fun with him instead of standing on a ledge about to jump. They end up sharing a kiss (Yess, they are gay.) and walking off together. It ends with them finally learning each other's name.


Rules for Auditioning:

  1. 1. Please take this seriously. This audio drama covers a serious topic and requires you to be serious about the way that it is handled. Be professional, and there shouldn't be a problem.

  2. 2. Have a good microphone. I can remove some sound in the background, but please try not to have lots of buzzing. The more you can do on your end, the better.

IAN is a nerd, but not really in the sense that people would think. He isn't a science geek or a gaming addict. He is just shy and an easy target for people to pick on. He did not have a great childhood, especially in middle school. He is just ready for life to end, and so he thinks that the best way to do that is to end his own life. He is not a depressed and sad character. He just doesn't know what to do. He thinks this might be his only option. His voice is soft, but not quiet. He is not a, "Oh boo hoo" character, so please do not take him that way.

  • [ALEC just asked if you were going to jump off the ledge and then he started to come closer. You don't want him to.]
    No! Come any closer and I'll jump!

  • [ALEC just told you that he has "superpowers" and that you can't tell anyone]
    Never...cross my heart and hope to die.     (Pause)Which may happen sooner than later.

  • [ALEC just stopped you from jumping off the ledge. You are feeling re-vitalized and like things will be okay.]

ALEC is a light-hearted individual who loves to look at things with optimism. He wants to see the good in people and loves talking about the Flash. He is okay with who he is. He is a bit of a jokester, with lots of sarcasm, so make sure to include that in his voice. 

  • [IAN just told you that he is having trouble at school and home.]
    I'm sorry.[Pause]

    My mom’s an alcoholic if that means anything.

  • [IAN just said that he gets beat up at school.]
    Well...do you want any help? I could beat them up for you.[IAN says, "What?"]Yeah, I could. I swear! I know some moves.[Do some really bad Kung-foo noises]

  • [ALEC has just had this long conversation with IAN, and is close to getting him off. He just needs one more push (pun not intended).]
    Hey, you know what? Why don't you come with me? We can go out and get some pizza or something. Talk about the Flash. [Pause]You can do your whole "being mopey" thing later.
