Audio Play - One Last Drink
Project Overview
Time. Everyone thinks that they have a lot of it, when really they don't. Two men sit in a pub and discuss the matter of time: whose left in their lives now that they've reached old age, what they can do with their lives at their age, oh and also when they might want to finish their prison sentence. In this alternative version of the UK, prisoners are given the chance to stay outside of prison for as long as they like, as long as they eventually complete their sentence time 'inside' by a certain date. Derek, our central character, has put off his sentence time for too long now and yet still can't bring himself to go, despite all the extra trouble that will bring. In this 'uplifting' tale of pints and pressure, listen to Derek and his mate Gerry reflect on all the things that make them want to avoid the big house in 'One Last Drink' a short audio play by writer Matthew R. Wright

Retired car mechanic, Ex-Convict, English (50s), Bit of a tough guy routine.
(reflective) I...I saw Pete earlier today. He gave me his new number. He’s just text me back with how long he’s got left. I....I just feel like shit now. Why can’t I stop laughing?
(reflective) How much time do yer think I’ve spent so far in the cage? Add on top of that, the time I’ve got to do for Brelldon robbery. How much time do yer think I’ve got left?
(reflective) 3 years plus the 18 months for Brelldon, make’s it....I don’t fucking know. So far I’ve only spent 9 minutes.
Close friend, Work Colleague, Ex-Convict, English (50s). More of a worker, less of an old thug.
(friendly but annoyed) Derek, it’s the 60th minute? Can’t this wait till the match is over? Come on man, it’s the league.
(amazed and horrified) 9 minutes? I know it’s optional now, the time you spend in, but 9 minutes? What yer do? Take a dump and leave?
(reflective) I’ve got 8 years to go of my own, and I want to do it soon. How about we do some time together? So yer not alone inside, let me help yer.
