Artists/animators needed! Making an animatic/animated show on YouTube! (TV-14 indie anime) Then Came You

Project Overview

Hi there! :D Wanna be part of a supportive team and work on a show together?

My name is thencameyou3 (same Discord and Youtube username) and we're making an indie anime psychological thriller series about redemption!

What's it about, you ask?

After a defiant new girl (Ebony) swings a punch at the most dangerous power-couple in a prestigious high school, she is labeled as the school's most wanted. Now she must outmaneuver a vengeful street-style gang and scheming academic rivals to keep from failing a school that’s designed to eliminate her.

  • The Tone: a grounded, humanistic, gritty psychological thriller wrapped around a deeply beautiful human heart.

  • The Writing Style: the story is populated by morally gray characters. It blends a nostalgic, old-school atmosphere (featuring parents from 90s-style stories) with modern 2020s youth culture. The dialogue captures the authentic, unserious comedic tone of real high schoolers without feeling outdated.

  • The Ultimate Theme: exploring how regular teens and adults become villains and if redemption is still possible, staying true to yourself, reclaiming innocence and the genuine belief that people can change for the better.

More information for you:

Independent Animatic Series (Passion Project / Non-Union)

  • Target scale: small YouTube series currently that could scale fast with community support and sharing.

  • Production status: Pre-Production (Voice Cast of 30+ people!) Some scripts created, overarching story already planned and developed from beginning to end. Still room for new creative ideas.

  • Vibe: Classroom of the Elite meets Karate Kid, Monster, and Succession—balanced by the beautiful, humanistic themes of Whisper of the Heart and A Silent Voice.

  • Content rating: Rated TV-14 / PG-13 for violence and heavy mature themes (emotional breakdowns and abuse, minimal gore, mild language)

😎 Who we are (The team)

Then Came You started from two passionate college creators making it right out of their bedrooms. Up until now, it has just been me handling the entire show alone, alongside my sister on story.

  • My background: I am a published novelist and I completed 15+ art collaborations. I have experience collaborating with freelance musicians, author managers at publishing houses, and editors both in the US and abroad.

  • My directing style: I am an animation student and a dedicated creative workaholic, but I am still actively learning to direct animation! I value patience, clear communication, and keeping our work environment entirely supportive. I promise to do everything in my power to help my team succeed and help you grow! :)

THE TEAM

We just got 30+ VAs and they're awesome. 💪

Perhaps one of the Least Chaotic Servers Ever: Ironically, despite having 30+ people, our Discord server is organized and drama-free. No spam—just a chill space where people talk movies, share art, and cheer each other on.

  • Because I know how brutal art school and indie spaces can be, workloads are fully flexible and tailored around your personal schedule, work, or studies.

  • Introvert-Friendly: If you don't want to engage with social channels, you can completely mute them. All production updates happen in an Announcements channel, and work is submitted through a private channel that In created just for you.

How to Apply / Audition: 🔥
Please submit a link to your portfolio, specifically highlighting sequential art, animatics, comic pages, or past storyboards. (You do not need to sketch a custom scene for this audition unless you want to!)

Project Overview:
The overarching story has been planned and made, and we have a couple scripts already complete. Please note: we make scripts scene by scene for animatics: where we don't make a script for a full episode but rather in chunks for 1-2 minute videos. As you may have guessed - storyboarding and animation takes a long time, so this keeps things realistic.

Your job will be to translate the script and audio into clear visual sequences.

Responsibilities: 👀
Create rough, sequential thumbnails/sketches based on the provided script and voice tracks. It's ok if it's not perfect - this is the project where you can safely practice your skill! As an animation student myself, I know the grind of learning and trying to get better at art. Don't fret - I respect your efforts. I will give you feedback on the scene as the director, and as a fellow artist who's been in your shoes, so we can adjust it together.

  • Convey character acting, camera angles, pacing, and framing to the best of your ability.

  • Be able to search for references (images) based off of the scene and vibe.

  • Revise panels based on director feedback before handing them off to the animators.

✨ What We Provide: ✨
Finalized script and voice acting audio files.

  • Character concept art and reference sheets. Please note: since we are early in process, not all characters have reference sheets. If a character needs to be drawn, I will sketch the character full body for you so you get the idea. Again, I believe perfectionism stalls projects so as long as it works, we're good.

  • [Optional: Animatic scratch tracks or temporary songs].

Requirements:

  • Ability to convey emotion, action, and clear continuity between panels. (Share your best work)

  • Open to feedback and revisions.

  • Deliver digital files in PNG/JPG format or as an MP4.

  • Respond on Discord with 1-2 days. The sooner the better.

  • Whatever software works for you, works.

Backgrounds are my weakness... please be a hero and save our team!

We are looking for artists to design the world our characters inhabit. We are aiming for anime-styled backgrounds or a general realistic/semi-realistic style to match the gritty thriller tone of the show. BUT, we also have comedic, bright, and wholesome moments in the show, so you need to be able to switch to colorful and softer color palettes as well!

  • Don't want to render? No problem! You can absolutely apply just to draw the rough background layout sketches if you don't want to do the final coloring/painting. We can pair you up with a colorist!

  • What you’ll do: Develop environment layouts, scene concepts, or clean turnaround sheets for key props/weapons.

  • Perfect for: Artists who love worldbuilding, perspective, and architectural design—whether you are a master painter or love rough building perspective sketching.

This role is solely for the people who hate doing clean-up and just want to get the movement down—even if it's in a sketchy style!

You're that one person everyone on the team will admire because you actually managed to make the characters MOVE in an appealing way in the show (because right now... let's face it, they don't move much lol).

  • We don't care about perfect lines here. We just need your passion for drawing cool moves (seriously).

  • What you’ll do: Sketch rough gesture animations, breakdown keyframes, and add loose in-between frames for smoother transitions during fluid or high-action sequences.

  • ACTION! :D You want to do the fight scenes?! GO!! What are you waiting for?! We have plenty and I suck at them. Here. Please. Show off.

  • Perfect for: Animation students, hobbyists, and anybody who just wants to play around with making cool rough anime animations.

For the absolute perfectionists who find the process of turning chaotic sketches into pristine line art deeply satisfying!

While the rough animators get to make a mess, you are the unsung hero who actually makes this look like a real, professional anime. You are the one who glues the whole visual style together and ensures every frame looks clean, uniform, and gorgeous.

  • If you pride yourself on clean line art and love the relaxing process of tracing, flat-coloring, and staying perfectly on-model, this is your moment. :)

  • What you’ll do: Take the messy, loose storyboards and rough character animations and trace over them with precise, production-ready line art, then apply the official character color palettes.

  • Perfect for: Artists who find line-cleaning therapeutic, love structure, and want to see their clean ink lines define the final look of the show.

If you know Adobe—you're a wizard. And we need a wizard.

You're confused?

Look, I don't know any Adobe programs except Photoshop. (It's weird but true). So if you know how to composite, or use other software to take our raw animation clips and put them together to make it look, well... good, rendered, finalized, and like a real anime?

You've got the magic. ✨

And we absolutely need you.

  • Bring the magic: you are the final eye of the project. You take everyone else's hard work and give it that cinematic, big-screen glow. 🎇

  • What you’ll do: assemble layers of backgrounds and character art, handle camera pans/shakes, align the timing to the audio, and add visual effects (like lighting, glows, color grading, or dust).

  • Perfect for: video editors and technical artists proficient in software like After Effects, Premiere, or Toon Boom Harmony who love giving raw scenes that final, jaw-dropping pop.

Thank you and if you wanna audition, go ahead and drop a link to your portfolio!

For the artists who live for color palettes, lighting scripts, and setting the ultimate mood of a scene!

Let's be real—flat lines can only do so much.

You are the one who steps in to give our characters life, dimension, and atmosphere. By taking the clean line art, you'll establish the lighting and color scripts that make a scene feel warm and wholesome, or dark and gritty.

  • No Line Art Stress: You don't need to worry about drawing the characters from scratch. Your sole playground is choosing the colors, shading, and making the flat line art look beautifully integrated into the backgrounds.

  • What you’ll do: Apply character flat colors, establish color palettes for different scenes, and handle basic cell shading/lighting based on the environment's mood, with the help of the creators.

  • Perfect for: artists who find coloring therapeutic, love playing with layer blend modes (Multiply and Add/Glow are your best friends), and want to enrich the art of the series and make it feel deep and meaningful. :)

If you're ready to audition, submit a link to your portfolio with some examples. 👍
