Anomalous [NOW CLOSED]

Anomalous [NOW CLOSED]

Project Overview

ABOUT ANOMALOUS

A radio news broadcast was interrupted by an unknown voice, which proceeded to deliver a monologue that was as bizarre as it was contradictory. A new case file has been opened at the Department of Anomalous Containment...

... adding to the massive pile that must now be recorded by the Head of Administration, Edwin Beamish.

A secretive government branch that has had it's funding cut to the bone, the Department of Anomalous Containment has recently begun the slow, arduous process of transferring its innumerable physical case files into a modern, digital format. The beleaguered Beamish must now record these tales of mystery and horror on top of his other duties, a fact that he is less than thrilled about.

CASTING CALL DETAILS

This casting call is for Anomalous, a ten episode horror audio-drama. This is a paid project; all roles available here will be paid £0.21 GBP per word (approximately £0.30 USD), with a minimum of $50 USD (approx.) per role. For further details on the full pay and the specific requirements of each role, please read the respective descriptions (also note that the overall pay presented may not add up by a small amount, since CCC does not allow exact payment input).

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

If auditioning for a role that has an open gender identity, please specify your pronouns in the notes section of your submission, as the character's pronouns will be the same as the VA cast for the part and the scripts will be altered to reflect this. Putting a link to any of your social media handles in the notes section would also be appreciated.

When cast, you will be emailed a contract to sign. Once this contract has been signed by both parties, you will be paid half of your fee up front (via PayPal), and the second half upon delivery of your lines (including any re-reads that may be required). Aside from some character pronouns, the scripts have been completed and the hired VAs will be sent their lines a couple of days after signing and returning the contract.

All recording will be done remotely, with no live direction, and no post-production work (beyond noise reduction and dead air removal) will be expected of the cast. Upon returning the signed contract, VAs will be given 14 days to record and send in their lines.

Also bear in mind that, as a horror audio-drama, each episode may deal in subjects that some may find upsetting.

The deadline for submissions is set for the 18th of May. Depending on the volume of submissions, however, some roles may remain open for an extra week or so

Dr. Souer
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 175 USD
Role assigned to: shogomiyakita

Dr. Souer is the Head of R&D at the Department, and is notorious for their almost unquenchable curiosity, as well as their manipulative nature and love of playing office power games. Yet despite this, their dedication to the protection of humanity is unwavering and their genius in the field of interdimensional entities and activity is respected and without equal... a fact that they are well aware of.

This role is open to BIPOC VAs of any gender identity. An accent from the UK is required; any mild Germanic accents are also encouraged.

  • [Having been asked to leave, but then being stuck inside by a security lockdown]
    (In a cheeky manner)
Mr. Beamish, you're giving me mixed signals! You ask me to leave, then lock me in. What am I supposed to think...

  • (with amused sarcasm, changing to professional curiosity)
Well, as charming as this awkward silence is... I must confess that I find myself pondering on what kind of incident we are dealing with here.

  • (in an emphatic tone, excited at a rare opportunity to study something)
This could be the first time that we could personally experience an incident without fear of death or madness! By immediately shutting them down, our procedures for dealing with anomalous events have become entirely reactionary and one dimensional; any chance of understanding them is ruined!

Jaime Price

Paid: Flat Rate 96 USD
Role assigned to: Paul Warren

Jamie Price works in Administration, and is friends with Alex Marsh. Confident and cocky, they are not afraid of calling out some of the more bizarre rules that they and their fellow co-workers must work under, though this attitude can sometimes get him into trouble.

This role is open to any VA. Any accent from the UK is required.

  • [Reluctantly conceding a point during a conversation]
Alright, I'll give you that. But you can't put all of his ridiculously strict rules down to the fact that he's seen some 'mind-bendingly weird stuff'. I mean, no food allowed in the office? It's mental!

  • [Surprised by a story from his co-worker]
Okay, well, first off: That was kind of impressive. Well done!

  • [Has been unexpectedly caught breaking office protocol by his boss]
    (Taken aback and nervous)
Y-Yes, Mr. Beamish. It won't happen again.

Alex Marsh works in Administration, and is friends with Jaime Price. Nervous and timid by nature, they typically go along with the crowd and attempts to please all parties... which rarely ends well for them.

This role is open to BIPOC VAs of any gender identity. Any accent from the UK is required.

  • [Just found out their friend started smoking again]
    (Surprised, disappointed)
You're smoking again?! But you were doing so well!

  • [Has been asked if they invited a person in another department out on a date]
    (Spluttering, attempting to deny it)
What?! No! Why would I... I mean, I don't understand what you mean!

  • [Has just confessed that they broke office protocol]
    (Speaking in a rush, defensively)
Look, I had a few drinks in town last night, had a bit too much. I overslept! I missed breakfast, so I grabbed something from the cafeteria and put it in a Tupperware bowl. I figured I could sneak a few bites when Beamish was in his office, but then he came out of the office and I panicked and sorta... ninja-ed my way out to throw it away and sneaked back in.

Paid: Flat Rate 71 USD
Role assigned to: Douglas Howell

George Longworthy is an elderly, disabled war veteran who becomes embroiled in a paranormal event. The very definition of a tough old man, he attempts to help the other folks caught up in the event, but quickly finds himself over his head.

This role is open for any male VA. Any accent from the UK would be acceptable, but a Yorkshire or Welsh based accent would be a bonus!

  • Hello? Oh, a recording. This is, er, George Longworthy; I was told to ring this number if my situation changed? Case file... hmm, what was it now?
(mumbles incoherently to himself as he pulls a note closer to his eyes)
Ah, yes, 7234, it says here.

  • [Talking about being affected by terrible curse]
(matter-of-factly, the stiffest of upper lips)
Seems that what happened to the others has finally got me, too. Had a feeling it would; had a similar feeling back in the War, you know. An old itch in the sole of my foot from the other side, telling me something was coming.

  • (with genuine cheerfulness, despite something awful having happened to him; rambling a bit)
Well, it's not all bad. Reminds me of my fifty odd years as a lighthouse keeper, you know! Nobody but myself for company, watching the sea all day and night. Relaxing days, those were.

Paid: Flat Rate 120 USD
Role assigned to: Duality Dubs

Matthew Corsaire was a late-middle aged American doctor and occultist from 1967 that encountered a paranormal entity. A learned man, he aimed to uncover as much about this fascinating new discovery as possible, which resulted in dire consequences.

This role is for male VAs with a deeper, gravelly voice. An American accent is required, with accents from the Tennesee region being preferred.

  • (he is excited but concerned about his discovery)
I have seen one! Small, skeletal looking creatures they are... I have not seen such monsters even in my darkest of nightmares.

  • (highly disturbed, but morbidly fascinated)
They push their host into more and more dangerous situations, leeching off of the impulses that keep us alive. They force ourselves to go against our natural instincts, to feed on the resulting burst of primal emotion.

  • (grief-stricken, disgusted)
These creatures are suffering incarnate. I know they are responsible for his death. To leap off of that bridge... he would never. Never.

Role assigned to: Jonathan Cox

Parker Moorhead is an employee of the National Audit Office, and arrives at the Department to check their finances. Sceptical of the paranormal and not above using what power they have in a petty manner, they are dismissive of the DAC's purpose and makes no effort to conceal this fact.

The role is open for all VAs. Any accent from the UK is required.

  • [Annoyed after having travelled halfway across the country to get to the facility]
    (curtly)
    You're Beamish?

  • (disdainfully)
Ah, yes. We certainly wouldn’t want your ghouls and goblins breaking free and roaming about now, would we?

  • (exasperated and angry)
This is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous! You will grant me access to your financial records, or else I will report back to my superiors that you, Beamish, were obstructing me in the performance of my duties!

  • [Has discovered someone affected by a paranormal object]
    (alarmed but controlled)
Oh, you poor bastard. How long has this thing been feeding on you?!

  • [Is unhappy with a draconic solution to an issue]
