Anno M
Project Overview
Who are we?
The Tower Array is an independent audio drama production studio run by Gray and Ivy Smith.
Our focus is telling stories that serve as deep character explorations in mysterious and fantastical settings.
Our first and flagship project, "Calling All Adventurers" has 2 seasons released, and will be returning for Season 3 early next year. You can find out more about us here: https://thetowerarray.com/
Anno M is a new project we're launching, in a completely different setting! However, it will still be a full cast audio drama with serious themes as well as atmospheric music and sound design.
About The Show
Anno M is a full cast fantasy audio drama that pulls inspiration from Roman and Greek stories and mythologies, with a blend of contemporary high fantasy concepts. The Gods are long gone, two powerful nations are vying for control, and the notion of the illustrious Adventurer is being commodified.
The turn of the millennium holds danger and promise in equal measure.
Audition Details
We are casting for the Pilot episode only for now, but all of the characters up for grabs are recurring.
We will be crowdfunding for the production of the rest of the first season, so if you are successful in the audition (and we are able to raise the funds), you will be receiving more lines to record!
This is a paid project, with a fixed rate for each character, based on the number of lines. The rate is $2 per line, with a guaranteed $20 minimum.
As with our other project, Calling All Adventurers, we're open to a range of voices and levels of experience. Just bring your passion for epic fantasy storytelling!
For each character, please submit a recording of the lines provided under the character descriptions. Record in AA BB CC format. Please do not record more or fewer than two takes.
Applicants must be over the age of 18. If you are successful, we will ask you to sign a contractor/freelancer agreement before you start recording.
We do request that all auditions be of a high-quality, this means:
1. Sound-proofed environment.
2. Use of a pop-filter.
3. Microphone of decent quality.
Deadline
Auditions will close on the 21st of October, at midnight GMT.
Show Description
"You want to know what gave rise to the Exodus. Picture waking up one morning with the realisation that you have lost something important to you. You can vaguely remember the function of what you lost, and broken pieces of it lie all around you, but you can never hope to put it back together.
We know there were entities that had dominion over aspects of reality, over life and death. We know they left behind fragments of a language that can manipulate the laws of physics.
All else has been lost."
In the year 999 Post Exodus, Robur is a powerful kingdom, over 800 years in the making. Valentis, its shining capital on the western coast, holds dominion over four prosperous regions that make up the continent. Valentis is also home to four adventuring guilds: Fulcrum, Fretum, Acervus and Adsero.
Each Guild is tasked with overseeing and upholding an aspect of civilization. Sapien relations and security, technology and travel, the accrual and archiving of knowledge, and monster culling and nature conservation, respectively.
Each Guild selects the best and brightest of Robur on a two year cycle, training them to become Adventurers. Joining a Guild is a great privilege that can set you and your family up for life. You can become a great warrior, scholar, mage — a celebrity, almost saintlike among the people.
What's a sign-on debt and a dubious contract in the face of such promise? You'll make the money back in your first few grand adventures anyway.
In the year 999 Post Exodus, four Platinum Adventurers of the Acervus guild have gone missing. The highest rank anyone could achieve, and they've disappeared without a trace.
Lucius, a Fulcrum Operative of the Corpus Mors division, and Seline, an Acervus Hunter are sent to find them.
This needs to be solved quickly, quietly and efficiently. The turn of the millennium cannot be marred by failures of the Guilds.

Character Description
Professor Hector Valis is an anthropologist and citizen of the Solis Imperium, a nation west of Robur, far across the ocean.
Nine years ago, the Soils Imperium ran a destructive military campaign where they invaded the border islands lining Robur's west coast and, over a 3 year period, sacked Nero, the central and largest border island.
He is a seemingly austere man of sun elf descent, who has spent a large part of his career studying communities and the people that form them. He is currently a political refugee in Robur, where he has been permitted to practice as a professor and research supervisor.
During the events of the Pilot, he is part of a three person team who have secured a grant from the Anthropological department of Minerva University in Valentis, to study the ruins of Silva Magna. They are attempting to prove a hypothesis that some of the ruins are from different time periods and/or are related to completely different societies. This is a hotly contested hypothesis in academic circles.
He works closely with Julia Velo, one of his former students, and Torris Vindinum, a colleague who specialises in archeology.
Main Things to Know about Hector:
He is in his late 40s.
He is an intensely private person, and will only reveal personal information when it is absolutely required. He will usually weigh up dangers to others or himself (in that order) to assess whether information needs to be revealed or disclosed.
He fits the standard professor archetypes, in that he is patient and measured with a focus on turning most conversations into a learning opportunity.
He has no particular love for Robur, but is clearly running away from something in the Solis Imperium, and Robur is his best bet at protection.
Performance notes:
A Greek accent is strongly preferred.
A deep and clear tone of voice is required, as the character should come across as very disciplined, but warm.
Line delivery should be slow and deliberate. Hector is always in control of any conversation he is a part of.

[Patiently, explaining a concept to a layperson] It would not be in line with the way we operate. We have been investigating in small, contained sections, taking care not to disturb the environment, but rather to study it in the form it holds.
[Shutting down a brewing argument] Enough. It appears this process will take some time. No sense in standing about pointing fingers, so why don't we sit by the fire and share some of our hospitality with our new guests?
[Earnestly] Through great effort, mostly. Or, in my situation, through trading something of value to the [with sarcasm] great kingdom.

Character Description
Torris Vindinium is an accomplished archeologist based in Valentis, Robur’s capital city. While his own research has been widely published, he is best known for his marriage to Volpe Vindinium, a nation renowned blacksmith who has created bespoke pieces for some of Robur’s most famed Guild members.
He is a fairly private and very reserved man, which only serves to bolster rumours about the circumstances under which he lost his leg in his youth. If asked directly, he often jokes that it’s a perfect opportunity to show off his wife’s talents.
He works closely with Julia Velo and Hector Valis, colleagues specialising in anthropological research.
Main Things to Know about Torris:
He is in his late 30s.
He is a Cambion (has infernal heritage) and is tall and physically imposing to boot. His demeanour doesn’t reflect his physical stature in any way.
He’s very meticulous both in his professional and personal life. He believes things are not worth doing if they are not done correctly and with care.
He has been working with both of his colleagues, Hector and Julia, for a significant amount of time and cares for them both. But he does not care for Julia’s adventurous attitude.
Performance notes:
A North American accent is required but no specific region is preferred.
Torris is soft spoken. He will repeat himself, if needed, but he will rarely raise his voice.
When particularly upset, he will speak faster.
His humour is dry and matter-of-fact, making strong use of his keen observational skills.

Ah, I'm sorry, that was supposed to be part of my dinner.
[Furious, incredulous] You can't seriously be trying to pin this on them!
[In mild shock] I'd rather not be here, if it's all the same to you. Can we stop this…lift from lowering? Somehow?

Character Description
Pertinax Castilium is one of three Handlers of the Corpus Mors division of The Fulcrum Alliance. She manages a small number of specialist Operatives (adventurers), whose primary roles are to investigate suspicious disappearances and deaths and, where relevant, retrieve bodies discreetly.
The jobs of the Operatives she oversees are high-stress and nuanced, and her position requires a strong level of emotional intelligence as well as organisational and improvisational skills. While working, she's up at all hours, often on call, providing details on everything from legal regulations, to hyper-local customs, to step-by-step instructions on how to de-escalate dangerous situations.
Nonetheless, she has been working as a Handler for over 10 years and is incredibly well known and well liked. She cares greatly for each of her Operatives, but is also completely bought in to Fulcrum's vision: "Vera et Certa".
Main Things to Know about Pertinax:
She is in her mid 40s.
She secured her position in Fulcrum by carefully curating her personal image as a firm but likable, and most importantly reliable, colleague.
She's very popular and pretty busy. If a conversation isn't worth her time, it will become apparent quickly.
Performance notes:
A North American accent is required but no specific region is preferred.
She chooses professional words but applies a casual tone in most conversations, as a shortcut to creating closeness with those she is speaking to.
She often speaks through a communicator to the adventurers under her care. As a result, out of habit, she projects her voice and enunciates.

Salve (pronounced SAHL-wey), Lucius. It wasn't up to me, I assure you, but you have proven yourself of late.
That's a question for you to answer, detective.
I shouldn't be the target of your interrogation, detective.

[Nerva is a trans man. Auditions by trans actors are strongly preferred]
Directions:
Please submit a recording (one file) of the lines provided under the character description. Record in AA BB format. Please do not record more or fewer than two takes.
Character Description
Nerva Ostium is a high-ranking Handler of The Adsero Consortium. He manages a cohort of Hunters (adventurers), whose primary roles involve protecting communities from threats posed by beasts and advancing conservation efforts for various beast species.
Hunters spend long stretches of time in the field, with sparse opportunities for communication, so Nerva is often required to conduct risk assessments and make judgement calls with incredibly limited information. On the other hand, periods of radio silence allow him to pursue academic research and experimentation relating to the natural world, bolstering the seemingly encyclopedic knowledge his Hunters heavily rely on.
He is a man of 3, maybe 5 words, where 20 would really help; not from any particular ill will, or disdain for others, but because he overestimates the capacity of those around him to pick up concepts with little context. And because he spends a lot of time around the various beasts he trains.
Main Things to Know about Nerva:
He is in his mid 30s.
He grew up in the most populated district of Valentis, the youngest sibling of 5. He credits his childhood experiences to his ability to prepare his Hunters to blend into any environment.
He believes even the most difficult temperaments are trainable, with the right incentives and rewards.
Performance notes:
A North American accent is required but no specific region is preferred.
Nerva is a master multitasker. He's usually doing at least one or two other things while speaking, which is noticeable even through a communication device.
The more stressful a situation is, the calmer he will sound.
