Character Description

Pertinax Castilium is one of three Handlers of the Corpus Mors division of The Fulcrum Alliance. She manages a small number of specialist Operatives (adventurers), whose primary roles are to investigate suspicious disappearances and deaths and, where relevant, retrieve bodies discreetly.

The jobs of the Operatives she oversees are high-stress and nuanced, and her position requires a strong level of emotional intelligence as well as organisational and improvisational skills. While working, she's up at all hours, often on call, providing details on everything from legal regulations, to hyper-local customs, to step-by-step instructions on how to de-escalate dangerous situations.

Nonetheless, she has been working as a Handler for over 10 years and is incredibly well known and well liked. She cares greatly for each of her Operatives, but is also completely bought in to Fulcrum's vision: "Vera et Certa".

Main Things to Know about Pertinax:

• She is in her mid 40s. 

• She secured her position in Fulcrum by carefully curating her personal image as a firm but likable, and most importantly reliable, colleague.

• She's very popular and pretty busy. If a conversation isn't worth her time, it will become apparent quickly.

Performance notes:

• A North American accent is required but no specific region is preferred. 

• She chooses professional words but applies a casual tone in most conversations, as a shortcut to creating closeness with those she is speaking to.

• She often speaks through a communicator to the adventurers under her care. As a result, out of habit, she projects her voice and enunciates.
