Hello!
This is a voice casting call for my junior film, “upon pears,” a semester-long film I’m making for my intermediate animation course at RISD/the Rhode Island school of design (link to my major's department. https://www.instagram.com/risdillustration/?hl=en.)
I’m looking for volunteers to voice the characters listed below. Majority of the roles are very small and only require an average of 4 sentences, except for the main character who will be doing a voiceover and some dialogue.
The plot follows a character moving into her new rental off campus with the help of her past roommate. The move kickstarts a series of memories and experiences of that summer, tied together with the theme of birds and packing boxes. The film overall had a warmhearted tone and briefly touches on different themes surrounding freedom, home, nostalgia, and family.
Regarding the final result of the film, I would ideally like to publish the final animation on YouTube and social media platforms, and would include any credentials/social media handles you prefer in the credits and descriptions.
I am creating this animation through the Film Animation Video/FAV Department at RISD, where student-made films have the opportunity gain social publicity through being submitted to indie east coast film festivals like Ottowa, or school screenings where alumni, professors, and students gather to watch the work. Hey everybody! Thanks so much to everyone who’s auditioned so far! I’ll be sorting through submissions and will get back to everyone before this weekend to close the roles for some of the more commonly applied for characters. Appreciate the responses!
Female voice, and the main character of the story as we follow her through her memories surrounding moving as an art student in college.
Holds the most lines in the story (maybe total of 2 minutes of dialogue.)
More on the sentimental and emotionally sensitive side. There's a scene where she's berating her brother and that's as about as animated as she gets -- the rest of the time she's mostly contemplative, observant of what's going on in her surroundings.
"Out of all the fruit out there, pears don't even make the top of the list. But some of my best memories are from when my mom would steam pears in the rice cooker for me."
"You can't see shit up here. What time do we have to be down by again?"

Emi's freshman and sophomore roomate, who is now parting ways as they move into different locations off campus for their third year.
Eli is small but gives off undeniable West Coast/rock climber/quiet genuis energy. She's pretty practical and on task.
This role is really small - Eli only has about 3 lines. In the scene she's helping Emi move her insane shitload of things off campus.
(calling over from a moving truck) "Heyy -- is over here okay?"
(When asked what's her favorite fruit.) My favorite fruit are mangos.
(When Main Character thanks her for helping her move.) "Of course, it would have been crazy to move by yourself!"
Naomi is one of Emi's roommates in their new home.
Despite a really intimidating makeup game and sharper attitude, Naomi is goofy at heart and just trying to have fun.
About 15-20 seconds of dialogue run time total.
In one of the scenes she'll be trying to figure out how to finish her painting. In another she'll be trying to light a blunt on the beach which keeps blowing out.
mainly struggling noises as she tries to light a cigarette. (Frustrated) "It's .. not... lighting..."
(Contemplating an unfinished painting.) "Hmm.. I'm not sure how to finish this."
(enthusiastic that the cigarette finally lights.) "Yayyy!"
Loveees to cook.
Small role. Doesn't say much and when she does, it's more emotionally deadpan.
A VK and AO3 enjoyer.
(Tiredly) "I'm sooooo hungry..."
(Exhausted) "We're almost there..."
(Enthusiastically)"I'm going to go get my stuff from the basement!"
Emi's younger brother. Adventurous high school senior who sometimes forgets to plan ahead.
- maybe 30 seconds of lines at the max (smaller role)
(checks watch) Shoot, the next bus leaves in two hours!
(admitting that he lost a wallet.) I must have dropped it somewhere up there.
(Mumbly. He's being scolded by his older sister.) I mean, we'll figure it out.
A talkative friend. Very friendly and open, easy going and social.
"How's your day been?"
"Shit, that sounds terrible. Well, you should try to relax... here, do you want a turn? We're doing a tournament in Smash."
"Good luck! You should definitely come by again."
