She is the main protagonist of the show. King Siward and Queen Ykva’s daughter and in line for the throne of the Viking kingdom Geats (now a part of Sweden). She is a teenager with a rebellious streak and is punished for it. She starts out a little petulant and selfish, but grows as the series continues.
Talking to her pet snake:
Oh, Morder (pronounced More-dare), it's always you. That's his way of bringing me back a trophy from his kills, isn't it Mordy?
Her mother has just revealed pertinent information on the fate of the kingdom:
I have a grandma? And another aunt that is not Jorine? And you never told me?!
Alfhild and her rescuer Alf get into a fight and Alfhild decides she doesn't want to marry him anymore.
I didn't ask for that. I didn't ask for any of this. You didn't rescue me out of the tower for me, you rescued me for you. You want the glory, for them to tell your story, and for me to be your trophy.
Groa ( 15-17 F) Alfhild’s lady in waiting and best friend. Voice of reason and a “goody two shoes.” She is trying to do her duty to her kingdom and to her family. Starts out without a voice, but learns to be strong and confident as the series continues.
Teasing her friend Alfhild as they are trapped in a tower waiting for a rescuer:
But all the poor men, are drawn here like a moth to the flame. Heralded by the tales of the most fair princess Alfhild.
Comforting her friend Alfhild:
No! You'll get married, and then have a honeymoon in one of your father's other estates. And then you'll have children.
After a fight with Alfhild she attempts to stand up for herself, and is a little awkward at it.
You, don't get why that matters? In the 3 years I have been of service to you, have I ever spoken an ill word of you. Well, then I guess it's high time I told you to pull your head out of your ass!
May be done in a British Accent, North American, or a European accent of your choosing. Prince Alf: (18 -21 M): Prince from the Viking kingdom of Gutes with 6 older brothers. He is desperate to make a name for himself, and speaks with Shakespearian flair unless flustered. Very traditional values and views of women until he is challenged.
Don't you lust for adventure! To set sail in the open sea? To find one's true destiny? Oh Norns! Thou art cruel mistresses. If only thou couldst tell me of my fate so I would know where to go!
He is torn apart by his fight with Alfhild, quite dramatic and moody.
How shall I be with a woman who rejected me so fiercely? Immune to my charms as I lay chagrin? 'Tis not merry way to commence an alliance of hearts and kingdoms. The depths of my heart lay in turmoil. Oh, if only Ionia could send a ray of light to these depths.
Angry with the witch's advice
"Timing?!" There my brothers are married, achieving great things, and I am to wait for "timing?" But, but, when is the right time? Am I supposed to wait around for this poor mannered princess?
Borgar: (30 M): He’s been around the block. He’s rough around the edges and doesn’t want to attach himself to anyone. He is hired by Prince Alf’s dad to captain the ship.
Alright your majesty, the ship is all loaded and ready to go. All we need is a destination. I come with food provided by the king, so I really don't care where I go.
Borgar gets roped into helping Alf, something he swore he wouldn't do:
No, seriously kid, don't mention it. I'm not supposed to do that kinda stuff anymore ok?
Borgar is angry that Alf gave him a title in front of the king an queen.
I am enough of a man to stand on my own. You don't need to make up titles for me. Unless it hurts your frail pride to be seen with someone as lowly as I. And I didn't have to help you. You roped me into it. I told your father that I would captain the ship, that is all.
King Siward: (42 M): Classic Viking king. Strong and fierce. Having issues with his marriage and keeping his daughter under control. Traditional view of women. May use a British or European accent.
[Said to his wife, whom he has not been speaking to]
(Angrily, but nor over agressive) How dare you intrude on a meeting of importance, do you forget your place?
{The first line is to the Queen and the Second is to his daughter's suitor]
(Aside) Yes, yes, yes. I have not forgotten my bond to thee. (clears throat, declaring) I have proclaimed that ultimately Alfhild shall be the decider of her fate, and choose her suitor. Do you have a problem with that?
[In a private moment between him and his wife]
(showing a little vulnerability) I have decided that you are right. Alfhild should be able to decide for herself, I don't want her to live a life of unhappiness, and I don't want to loose the only child that I have left.
Queen Ykva (40 F): Siward’s wife, Alfhild’s mother. Is on the outs with the king for an undisclosed reason, but loving mother and wife. Wants what’s best for the kingdom and her children even if she has to break the rules sometimes. Can have a British, or European accent.
[Having a private meeting with her husband]
(begging him) That's not always how these things are meant to be dealt with. My dear King Siward, haven't I been punished enough? We made a great team. I beg to be again at your right side, or left side, hell! At your feet! This has to be managed properly.
[Revealing family secrets to Princess Alfhild]
(Comforting) Oh darling, it isn't because of you, its your heritage. And the fact that you are in line for the throne. We have reason to think that your brother's death may have been planned.
[Revealing family secrets to Princess Alfhild]
(encouraging) There was a lot of political upheaval when your father and I married. We kept that side of the family away to protect you. You remind me so much of my mother Hilde. Her name is Ladgerda (lat ger da)You need to meet with her. I believe that you can make peace to the unrest and change our kingdom for the better.
Ake (26 M): Audun’s (Alfhild’s lazy whiny cousin) right hand man and warrior that does his leg work. Mostly stoic. Turns out later to be gay, so must be okay playing that. He starts as a pretty minor character, but grows more in the end of season one into season two.
[Alfhild is holding her door closed and Ake is ready to kick it down]
Open up! Before I do something you’ll regret!
[Audun refuses a duel, much to Ake's dismay]
But master, you must duel, it’s the honorable thing to do.
[Audun has just witnessed a horrifying display of family drama and guilt tripping]
And I thought my family was bad. Psh. Royals. So dramatic. What are you going to do to make it up to her?
Iona ( 25 F but like immortal): A witch whom Alfhild’s aunt Jorine has captured for information and magical intervention. She talks to the Norns (fates) and tries to keep balance in the land. Says spells in Norwegian and Swedish (with pronunciations provided)
[A warning to Prince Alf]
I know how you can defeat it, but you must act quickly. I have seen the fates if you don't. It's all death, desolation, and decay across the seas. But be careful, they are watching your every move.
[When Alfhild is being attacked, Ionia comes to her aide]
(casting a spell) Frys som is (frees sum ees). Come with me if you want to live.
[Her advice when Prince Alf is not happy with the way things are going between him and Alfhild]
One does not plant one seed, and a garden have. A garden takes it's time to grow, but it must be tended, taken care of, and in it's season.
Torunn (Tour-rune) (17 F): A commoner of the Geats who has had enough of her drunken father controlling her life. She works on the docks disguised as a man. It will be made more overt as the season goes on, but she is a lesbian who chases after girls only to get her heart broken. Sister of Dalla.
[Her sister asks her to come home, but she doesn't have any intention to]
Yeah, well it’s not any of father’s business. And I’ll come home when I feel like it!
[Tourunn spots Groa at the pub, looking very out of place]
(flirty, but not creepy) What's a fancy lady like yourself doing out alone on a night like this?
[In solidarity with Groa, trying to protect her]
(warning) I wanted to let you know that a couple of the guys at the bar are staring you down like a piece of meat.
Dalla (15 F): A commoner of Geats who acts as homemaker and peace keeper after her mother’s death. Tries to control her father’s alcoholism and her sister’s rebellion.
[Chasing down her sister and trying to bring her home]
Father wanted you home ages ago. Just come home with me Torunn (Tour rune). I know our father isn't the best, but it's the only home we have.
[Torunn is not receptive and Dalla tries to reason with her]
Chasing another girl? You're just going to get hurt again.
Olafur (20’s M) Basically a Tweedle Dee, hired hand of Jorine. Brother of Knut.
[Tries to hit on two girls in the bar, it doesn't go well]
You two should smile more. (Pause) Well, you don't gotta be mean about it. Humpf.
[Alfhild tries to sneak back into the castle by bribing the guards]
After you were locked up, your dad cleaned house you see? To make sure you couldn't pull any of your little stunts again.
[He has been captured and must prove his usefulness to his mistress to survive]
Wait, uh, uh, the prince! We could follow him, and see where he goes! The witch was probably telling him which way to go!
Knut (Kuh Noot) (20’s M) The tweedle Dum hired hand of Jorine. Brother of Olafur.
[Alfhild attempts to bribe the guards to sneak back into the castle]
Ha! You’ve mistaken us for the old guard! You are in a heap load of trouble missy!
[The mistress has said be useful or die. This was his best response. Bless his heart]
Me mum used to be a baker, I can make you some bread?
[Trying to follow Prince Alf in the shadows, Knut is being too loud. Olafur asks him what got them in trouble last time]
What got us in trouble last time was a girl with a stick… Hes got a stick?!
