Project Overview
Synopsis: The story revolves around Nishimiya Shoko, a grade school student who has impaired hearing. She transfers into a new school, where she is bullied by her classmates, especially Ishida Shouya. It gets to the point where she transfers to another school and as a result, Shouya is ostracized and bullied himself, with no friends to speak to and no plans for the future. Years later, he sets himself on a path to redemption.

Ishida Shouya is a teenage boy with a lot of regrets. He is ostracized from his classmates after bullying his deaf classmate Nishimiya Shouko in elementary school (causing her to leave schools). He goes on a journey to seek forgiveness and ends up having Nishimiya help him "live". He is a determined, sometimes comedic character, however he does have very emotional parts in the movie.

*with the context of the scene, I would like this line to sound pensive and genuine; melancholic and slightly hurt* Yes. You're right. I'm the worst human being. I'm the one who shouldn't be alive.*pause* But, *slight pause* at least, I thought that I didn't want to make Nishimiya cry again.
*Ishida talks to Nishimiya for the first time since she left; a bit awkward, but genuine* You left it behind *pause* why sign language you ask.. I learned it. Here. *pause* you might not want to see this again. *pause* H-hey.. *slowly as he is signing with sign language* can me and you become friends? *He slaps himself; in his head**embarrassed* Damn what am I saying? *pause* *shocked noise* P-please don't cry *pause* Please don't cry Nishimiya.
*This scene is very emotionally intense; Nishimiya is about to jump from her balcony and Ishida is shocked and terrified while trying to reach her at the same time* *confused* N-nishimiya? *pause* *extremely nervous* W-wait, wait a minute! W-what are you doing? *slightly louder* Nishimiya? *Shocked noise* *Now yelling* Nishimiya! *He runs into a chair and falls onto the ground* *in pain; an intense ow or ah* *slight pause* *not as loud as the first one* Nishimiya! *quick pause* *Intense emotion in this yell; LOUDEST yell* SHOKO!!
Tomohiro is a kid with no friends, and is alone similar to Shouya. He then becomes friends with Shouya after he saves him from getting his bike stolen. It is not seen much in the movie, but in the manga Tomohiro is seen to look to Shoya as an older friend and companion, looking up to him and defending him.

*Someone is trying to pressure Tomohiro into giving them his bike, eventually trying to take it by force. He is distressed* *Calm/confused* H-huh? What are you saying? Y-you should use your own. *pause* H-hey stop it please *pause* ah, stop it! *pause* Someone help me! *slight gasp as he sees Shoyou* S-someone! *pause* Please! help me please!
*Tomo steps in to help his friend out so that he gets let in to see Nishimiya* Hey boy! My friend wants to see Nishimiya! *pause* Stop complaining and bring her here right now! *pause* I followed you, helping out like a best friend would! *pause* *angry* SAY THAT AGAIN BOY!
*Hesitant, seeing his friend again after his near-death experience* *hesitantly* Ya-sho? *pause* *soft and worried* Ya-sho, does your stomach hurt? *pause* Ya-sho...! *pause* Why are you looking downward? *pause* *loudly* Ishida-kun! *pause* *choked up;teary* I'm really really happy you came back. *sobbing* If you didn't wake up I would've lost everything..!
Kawai is Ishida's classmate. She was one of the first people to ostracize Ishida, and is seen as vain and egotistical, however by the end of the movie we get a glimpse of her good intentions.

*Kawai has a new haircut and is being questioned about it* *embarrased, softly* Stop it you guys; I was just in a bit of a rush this morning, that's all *pause**trying to be cute* Eh? No reason in particular.. *pause* that's what girls do, you know *pause* *whisper* by the way, Mashiba-kun said he wants to be friends with you.
*Ishida and everyone meet up on the bridge and Kawai wants to bring up the past* ...I asked her to come. *pause* I'm sorry about what happened in the class Ishida-kun. But I think this is originally your fault. But Mashiba-kun said that since you apologized we should forgive you and- *pause* We? *quick pause**upset* that's not correct Nao-chan. *pause* unlike me you bullied her too. We are not the same. *pause* *gasp* You're cruel!
*Kawai sees Nishimiya for the first time after she tried to end her life* *upset;choked up* It's horrible you tried to kill yourself even if you were hurt! *pause* Nishimiya-san can't hear unless we speak loudly! *pause**crying* everyone worried about you! *pause* everyone has hard times in life, everyone isn't that right? *pause* So, we have to move forward, loving ourselves, even our weaknesses!
Yuzuru is a middle schooler and is the younger sister of Shoko. She is very protective of her older sister, often putting Shoko's needs before her own. She is seen at first as sarcastic, childish, and condescending, but over the course of the movie she opens up to Ishida.

*Yuzuru and Tomo are spying on Shoko and Ishida using her camera* *irritated* Crap she saw him. *pause* *condescendingly* that would be sign language. *she 'translates' the sign language (not really)**slightly monotone* She says 'who was that turd-haired kid just now?' 'I don't know such a turd' 'Eh he was so creepy!' *pause* Tsk. *translates**slightly monotone* 'Honestly. I wasn't sure if it was okay for me to see you again. I've been thinking about it for a long time, a reason to see you again *slightly shocked noise* 'I'm happy. I thought.. the same thing as you.' that's so strange.
(Yuzuruu is upset about what Ishida did to Shouko in middle school (bullying her) and is confronting him) (softly; not too snarky) By the way.. who do you think you are? Are you a hypocrite? Do you feel good by taking in a stray cat? You were just amused by it, right? *pause* You were amused because she's deaf right? *pause* (snarkily) And even if you learned sign language now.. Do you think you became a good person or something?! You disgust me.
(This is a very emotional scene; This is after Nishimiya attempts suicide, Yuzuruu took up photography in the hopes that it would prevent her older sister from killing herself) *quietly, sorrowful* If she saw this... I thought she would stop wanting to kill herself. *Voice breaking; starting to cry* What should I have done? *Yuzuruu is crying now*
Miyako is Shouya's mother. She is fun, spunky, and a heart-warming character. She will go to great lengths to save the people she loves. She is the mother of the main Character Shouya
