Shuichi tends to stick to a less thoughtlessly expressive nature, and instead always sounds like he's completely confused by something, extremely apprehensive/concerned/exasperated or sad. It'd be good to try more out with his voice, but Shuichi is a sad emo boy and not much can change that.
Make sure to also show his more determined side. While he may be wallowing in the thought of death 75% of the time, 25% of the time he's relatively positive and calming.
Though, to clarify, you don't have to sound exactly like Shuichi's English dub voice actor, but I would like you to show as many Shuichi-like interpretations of these lines as you can.
Short monologue:
"I guess I'm a little envious. After... After Kaede, I could barely sleep at all.
But by now, the feeling has almost settled. With each one... It gets easier.
It feels like I'm getting used to this. Like everyone's getting used to this.
This killing game."
Dialogue in response to Kokichi (itallics are thoughts/narration):
I sighed, tired of this already
"Well, you wouldn't have said that if you knew I was here
There'd be no reason to keep up an act if you thought you were alone."
Various bits:
"Kokichi mentioned a plan... what is his plan?"
"Ah, are you sure?"
"But... why?"
"No, that's wrong!"
