He leaned back into his throne as he stared out the tinted window, waiting. His crown felt heavy on his head.
The man stood across from him in the room, clad in all black to hide effectively in the shadows.
It felt like the whole world was still paying for what his father had done—it loomed over everyone and everything like a dark cloud, never leaving, even if just for a moment.
King Sunshine is the protagonist. He is confident, a bit self-centered, and can sometimes be a little rude due to not having the best social skills. Otherwise he's quite a caring and compassionate person who would do anything for the people he loves.
I imagine his voice as a higher masculine voice but I'll consider anything!

This character is a bit of a smaller role! He is only seen in a few chapters.
King Nightfallen is a timid and kindhearted ruler, disliked by the people he rules due to the previous ruler, his father. While he is a bit of a pushover, he knows how to stand up for himself, and isn't afraid of speaking out against something he doesn't believe is right.

A semi-large role! He doesn't have as much lines as other characters, though.
Ransom may come across as gruff and rough around the edges, but it's only because he's fiercely protective of his best friend, Eddie. He has a big heart and genuinely wants those around him to be safe and secure. When new people enter the picture, like the protagonist (Sunny), Ransom may seem rude or dismissive, but it's only because he's trying to gauge their intentions and make sure Eddie is protected. Underneath his tough exterior, Ransom is a loyal and loving friend who just wants the best for those closest to him. This role has a bit of swearing!
Eddie, why the hell are you so late?
A new customer, huh? Are you sure that isn't just someone you picked up off the street, expecting to get them a free room?
Well, welcome to Hotel D’Ville, Sunny. You better be better than the last guy he brought in here.

Eddie is outgoing and friendly, but he does have one highly emotional moment late in the novel. This character is nonbinary, so any gender can play this role! (Keep in mind he is referred to as 'he' in the novel!)

A smaller role!
Kynaston is the owner of a hotel, living with his son Ransom and his best friend Eddie. He is a caring, kind father-figure, and protective of the people he is close to.
You may call me Mr. Lynwood until we get more well acquainted, I suppose.
I just walk around sometimes, you know? Seeing what the people around here are up to before they come in here to cause trouble.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was planning on introducing you to me. After all, you need an owner’s blessing to get a room for free.
