Sorry about the order of the roles. I meant for the main characters to be near the top. Just scroll down all the way to find the main characters.

I am running auditions over multiple sites. Here is the actual audition count:
Oscar: 20

Eliza: 10

Barbara: 4

Nora: 5

Becky: 2

WFB: 11

Extras: 8

Overview:

Wilde Life is a supernatural/horror/adventure webcomic by Pascalle Lepas, who has granted me permission to dub it. It is a modern-day story of a writer and journalist named Oscar who left Chicago behind for a fresh start in Oklahoma. Little does he know the house he rented is haunted by the ghost of a 1940’s mathematician, who becomes his room mate. The story follows his adventures in the town of Podunk, which he finds to be a hotbed of supernatural activity. You can find the comic here:

http://www.wildelifecomic.com/about

The comic dub will be presented in the style of a comic voice-over video with some kinetic comic elements. Each chapter of the comic will make up one “episode” which will be uploaded to youtube likely on a monthly basis.

From September up until now, casting for characters has been done privately with people we know, but unfortunately we’re still missing voice actors for some important roles, which is where you all come in.

OKLAHOMA ACCENT SAMPLE FOR REFERENCE
http://dialectsarchive.com/oklahoma-1

Requirements:

- All auditionees for this round must be 18 years or older.

 - I recommend against auditioning if sexual themes in a project make you uncomfortable, although they will be watered down and will likely not require any involved acting on your part. (This is not a smut comic by any stretch. The only sexual scene in the comic is in the form of a very brief flashback, with the sensitive areas hidden.)

 - You must be okay with swearing.

 - The comic contains homosexual relationships. If this bothers you at all, please do not audition.

 - The comic contains scenes of violence, blood, gore, and body horror (Mostly chapter 5 so far). If this bothers you, it is best not to audition.

 - Condenser mics are preferred, be they USB mics, or mics connected through an external interface. Please no cell phone, headset, or laptop mics.

 - Please ensure that your recording space isn’t too noisy and doesn’t have a lot of reverb or echo. Subtle ambient noises in the background can be edited out, but noise removal can only do so much. (In the end, if you’re still unsure how your space sounds, just send in your audition anyways. No harm in trying!)

-Please don't add any effects to your audition (echo, reverb, etc.)

 - If you are cast, please provide your easiest method of contact (ie skype or discord) and/or an email address.

 - This project will be ongoing for several months, as the comic is not yet complete, and at least three episodes will be recorded in advance before they are published. Although I will be working with you to make sure your recording schedule is easy and hassle free, please be certain you will be able to submit your lines on time and stay committed. Please be sure to communicate if anything comes up.

The deadline for auditions is the end of December 31st. (There will be some wiggle room due to differences in time zones, so don’t worry, but please try to submit your auditions before the deadline.) Best of luck to everyone and thanks for taking an interest in the project!

**You will need to be able to shout, as well as act panicked and scared.

The comic has a variety of background characters of varying ages and voices. Anyone who auditions will already be considered for extra roles.

  • Can’t raise a family on that co-op pay anymore. (Depressed sounding.)

  • Bill?! Is it your heart again? BILL! (Panicked)

(Black actors preferred.)

Age: Mid-30’s to very early 40’s

Accent: American/Oklahoma (Either is fine)

Avg Lines: 60 lines (She’s only appeared in chapter 3 so far)

Voice: Medium to Medium-low

  • The first voice that came to mind for her was Mrs. Grant from Life is Strange. I’m flexible about the voice though. As long as you feel what you come up with fits her character, go for it.

  • Her tone and personality is friendly, motherly, and kind of warm. She’s happy to talk to Oscar when he introduces himself as her new neighbor, and is appreciative of his help when she needs to be taken to the hospital. She also gets a little timid when she worries she’s eating up too much of people’s time.

  • She has a fairly intense scene near the end of chapter 2, where she confronts the ghost of her first daughter who is attacking her friends. You’ll need to be able to shout, as well as cry softly. (ref1) (ref2)

“Oscar's neighbor. The Callahan's were haunted by the ghost of their daughter Dani, who they lost unexpectedly when she drowned in a swimming pool. Oscar had a chance encounter with Becky one morning while out for a walk, which led to a trip to the hospital and a confrontation with Dani.”

  • We had a daughter, Danielle. A few years ago, there was an accident… at a swimming pool. (Somber. A little pained.)

  • Lizzie Proctor sells them down at the saturday farmers market. I think the whole town must have some by now. (Pleasant tone, talking about a blue rose she’s holding, admiring it.)

  • I’m so sorry I made you stay. All of this is my fault. I’ve been so selfish. (Remorseful, while tearing up.)

Age: 40’s to middle age.

Accent: Oklahoma

Avg Lines: Currently 16 lines. (She only appears in the first chapter so far, but is likely to become more prominent in later episodes.)

Voice: Medium to Medium-low

  • Given the way her dialogue is written, the specified accent is required.

  • The closest reference I can find to how she sounds in my head is Joyce from Life is Strange, just with a dryer vocal texture, if that makes sense.

  • Her voice is a bit raspy and croaky due to her smoking habits. The way she talks comes off mostly as really relaxed and disinterested, with a bit of cynicism, but also with some friendliness in there as well. She also doesn’t have patience for disrespect or misbehaviour. (For a better look at her behaviour and personality, she first appears here)

“Oscar’s chain-smoking landlady and the owner of Sylvia’s house. Might actually be a witch. She has two redbone hounds named Cletus and Remus.”

  • Cletus! Remus! Get down! I raised you better’n that! (scolding)

  • I own the damn place outright. Bought it at auction years ago. I just want someone in it to keep it from going to hell. Think you can do that for me? (This line is overall in a casual half-serious tone. The “think you can do that for me?” is in a more lighthearted, slightly challenging tone.)

  • Good luck. (said in a darker tone)

Age: 32-33

Accent: American

Avg Lines: 40-60 per episode (so far, she appears in three chapters)

Voice: Medium to Medium-high

  • The most fitting reference I can think of for how her voice would sound is Tara Strong’s regular speaking voice. Something like this would be desired, but again I’m flexible with anything that would fit her looks and personality, so don't worry too much.

  • Eliza has a bit of a playful and sly personality, with a good amount of confidence in herself in social situations with others. As the protector of Podunk, she’s always ready to take action in order to keep her loved ones and the residents safe. As such, her tones can range from casually playful to serious and down-to-business-like. You’ll also need to be able to shout, and potentially voice pain sounds (She has yet to get hurt in the comic, but she does fight deadly monsters, so it could happen in the future.)

“A local witch and the source of the mysterious blue roses. She has a connection with the White Faced Bear and seems to know a great deal about the strange things that happen around Podunk. She lives in the woods with her girlfriend Darcy and has on occasion revealed herself to wield great power, though she is hesitant to discuss the particulars of her abilities with Oscar. Her personality clashes with Clifford, but she does her best to protect him because of her allegiance to the White Faced Bear.”

  • I do mail bare root plants, but I don’t have any here. You should come to my garden later and pick one out. (Friendly)

  • You didn’t seriously think that you’d be able to stroll up to my door with just a little baby monster? (Taunting)

  • Clifford, wait. Please, just listen to me. You didn’t do anything wrong. Cliff! (Anxious. Calling after someone as they’re leaving her house)

Age: 25

Accent: American

Avg Lines: 80-130 per episode

Voice: Around the medium to medium-low range.

  • (The first voice that came to mind for him is similar to Mr. Jefferson from Life is Strange. I’m flexible about the voice though. As long as the voice you use feels fitting to his appearance and personality.)

  • Oscar deals with a lot in the comic, so you’ll need to be able to portray a decent amount of emotions, ranging from joy, sadness, irritation, fear, and panic. Shouting and pain sounds will be required as well.

  • This is just a heads up. Although the comic is in no way a smutty or sexually explicit one, there’s a very brief sexual-themed scene with this character. It’s shown in the style of a quick flashback before chapter 4 begins, where Oscar meets a woman at a local bar and hooks up with her at her place. This likely won’t need to be acted out at all (there’s no talking at all), and I’m very likely going to water down/cut down whatever notable sexual content appears in the story through the video editing. Just keep this in mind if you’re planning to audition for this character, and if voicing a character like that makes you uncomfortable.

  • “A writer from Chicago, Oscar rented Sylvia’s house from Barbara Yaga without knowing it was haunted. Oscar is good natured, even-tempered, and a little pedantic. He doesn’t like to talk about himself and finds ways to avoid conversations that get too personal. He has a weakness for beer and pretty girls.”

  • “Oh. Don’t worry about me. But, can I come back some time and ask you more questions? Or is that imposing?” (Casual, friendly tone.)

  • “No, Sylvia, NO. I have an unconscious half-naked teenaged boy in my bathtub. People go to JAIL for stuff like this!” (Panicked, raising his voice a bit) (For context… This is the morning after he placed an unconscious werewolf in his tub the previous night. Except he wasn’t aware it was a werewolf.)

  • “I don’t know. I just… couldn’t stand to be where I was for another second.” (Depressed.)EXTRA (Since there's only space for 3 lines)Improvise a couple shouts and pained sounds.

Age: Late 30’s to 40’s

Accent: Slight Georgian accent/American accent (Either is fine)

Avg Lines: ~12-25 (She’s only appeared in chapters 2 and 6 so far)

Voice: Medium

  • Nora has a lot of what you’d expect from a “mom” character. She’s caring and protective, but won’t hesitate to scold you if you step out of line. I see her having a slightly brash but still pleasant mom voice, but with some stress in there too, especially when she gets frustrated with Clifford.

  • Her character is best shown in pages 275-277 of the comic.

“Clifford’s mother. She moved to Podunk from Georgia when Clifford was still a baby. Once in Podunk she married Carl Hudson and adopted a second son, Kevin. Nora works long hours to try and make a good life for her children. She and Clifford have grown apart in recent years.”

  • "Damnit, Cliff. I can’t deal with this anymore. Running off? Fights? You have to get it together!" (scolding)

  • "Oh my god, I am so sorry! I’m just yelling at my son in your living room." (A bit flustered)

  • "Well, I have to get ready for work, and running around all night isn’t an excuse to skip school, so let’s get going." (Lighthearted)

(This character is an animal from Aleutian legend)

Age: None stated but I imagine him sounding old. Past middle age.

Accent: Unfortunately I can’t find any appropriate references as to what his accent would be.

Avg Lines: 2-3 per episode (So far. May have more later.)

Voice: Low

  • His voice should mostly sound calm, neutral, and wise. He doesn’t emote very much unless provoked. You will need to be able to shout at least.

  • I don’t have a specific voice reference for him unfortunately. I imagine his voice sounding deep and a bit burly. His shouts should come off roar-like.

  • “The blood of humans is forbidden! Do you invite the madness? LEAVE!” (Overall tone is angry. “LEAVE!” should be shouted.)

  • “The woods are clear. You know who did this.” (Calm, and serious.)
