Voice for Educational Youtube Channel

Voice for Educational Youtube Channel

Project Overview

"What is this project?"

Like the title says, I plan to start a Youtube channel with entertaining, educational videos.

I have written 5 scripts so far, with the titles:
What would an educational utopia look like?
Can a scientist believe in God?
Should you do drugs?
Are vegans morally superior?
Gandhi, Steve Jobs & Mother Teresa: Are they overhyped?

The scripts are about 1000 words each. I'll animate the videos with "GoAnimate" and have already animated 4 videos. Admittedly, I'm not too satisfied with the result, but I think it's okay for the start. I want to publish at the very least 20 videos, after that it depends on the feedback from the viewers on the content and if I think the channel has a future. If so, I'd like to buy a new laptop on which Adobe After Effects works fine (my current laptop only has 4GB RAM, so I can't use After Effects) and use the template "Pixity Land" (pixityland.com) to create higher quality videos.

"Why are you doing this?" + personal information
Initially, my motivation was to build a passive income source. However, it was important to me that I do something I like and I think is valuable to other people. Since I like to read a lot in my free-time anyway, I eventually decided that starting an educational Youtube Channel might be the right thing for me. Writing the 5 scripts have confirmed for me that this project really is something that combines my passion with a possibility to earn money.

I am 20 years old and I am currently doing my bachelors in Mathematics at the ETH in Switzerland.

"What's the plan?"
Since consistent upload frequency is apparently really important on Youtube, I aim to upload one video a week. As already mentioned, I've already written 5 scripts, but I plan to have 10 scripts before uploading any videos to get a head-start and make sure that I can stick to uploading one video a week. I plan to start uploading on the 5th of November.

For you, this means you have to record at least 5 scripts (about 1000 words each) until the 22 October. By the 12th of November I need another 5 scripts. After that, I probably won't need any scripts until I upload the 10th video (7 January), as I want to focus on interacting with the subscribers & other SEO factors instead of writing scripts. After the 7th of January, I need 1 script a week.

That's what I have in mind, but of course there will be obstacles which I don't see now and we'll have to be flexible.

"How much do I get paid?"
There are 3 potential sources of income from this project for you:
1. A fixed amount I pay you
2. A percentage of the ad-revenue
3. Patreon

Since I am a student and therefore don' t earn money, I can only afford paying a very low amount for the first one. Send me a message of what you think is okay for you.
For the ad-revenue, I'm thinking about 15-20%, since I still have to write the script, do the animations, add background music & run the channel by myself.
When we hit about 10.000 subscribers, I plan to start a Patreon and as the first milestone, I will set a fixed amount as a payment for you. Again, let me know how much you would like to have.

"What do I need?"
You should be male & have a rather deep voice. An example of a voice I really like is the one from the Youtube Channel "In a nutshell".

The audio should be clear & without any background noises.

You should be in it not just for the money, but because you like the project. This is really important because the payment will mainly depend on the success of the project. If you are not ready to do this for several months without getting paid a lot, please don't audition. I can't promise success, but I promise well-researched scripts and dedication to the project.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me.

  • If you have been following this channel for a while, you might be wondering: What's the practical advice from all this?

Well, it turns out that idolizing people is something we do not only do with celebrities. Psychologist call it the Halo-effect: If we think someone is good at doing A, we also think that this person is good at doing B, C & D. Either they are good or bad, there often isn't something in between. Just consider this true statement: Hitler loved his dogs. Sounds odd, doesn't it?

Of course our character isn't as black and white, so every time you judge someone's abilities, ask yourself: Do I really know what he can do, or do I just (dis)like him?

Have you had any experiences with the Halo-effect? Leave it in the comments below!

Also, if you want to know more about the way we see the world and take decisions, I recommend the book Thinking, Fast and Slow. It was written by a Nobel Prize winner and is packed with much more wisdom than I could ever put into a Youtube video. I'll put a link in the descriptions.

Thanks for watching, if you liked this video and want to see more of my content, don't forget to subscribe!
