Project Overview

Vampires Don't Belong in Fairytales is a YA comic fantasy book series. The webcomic runs alongside it.  The webcomic largely centres around the events of Fairy Roots, an LGBT+ romance, but features characters from the other books and comic only events as well. 

Will has been obsessed with Fairyland since he was a kid. His mother told him it was a dangerous place full of monsters that would gobble him up. It was no way to discourage a small boy. He takes a gap year and sneaks off to Fairyland, where he gets a job as court jester for Tyrian, king of the Dark Realm.  There are shenanigans.

EDIT: You guys ain't being paid enough to look through all my comics so I posted links to the specific comics that go with the lines on each role so you can see the facial expressions/context if you wanna.

I intend to post the comic dubs on YouTube, and although I doubt I'll make any money, I intend to monetise them if possible. I won't be able to pay royalties, so the fee stated is the entire payment for permanent rights.  This is really just a little vanity project I thought would be cool, but I just want any VAs to be aware of this as some might not be okay with it, and I totally understand but wouldn't want you to waste time auditioning only to have to refuse due to the above. 

The deadline will be roughly 2 weeks after the casting is finalised.

EDIT: I realised I didn't give you guys enough direction, I've tried to improve that. I'm sorry, I'm new at this.

    Hello lovely people!   • Lead role recast

Will has been obsessed with fairies and Fairyland since he was a kid. His mother told him stories about how dangerous and full of monsters it is, because she’s bad at psychology. He’s snuck off to Fairyland for a gap year, and has landed himself the position of court jester to King Tyrian. He loves Shakespeare, travelling, languages, etc. and is quite confident in his manner. 

                        He’s a demi, and gradually falls in love with Tyrian, becoming his main partner in a polyamorous relationship.  

Will is half-Otherworlder, and he’s spent a lot of time around his mother and other Otherworlder kids, so although he’s British, he has an American twang to his accent.

Tyrian is king of the Dark Realm of Fairyland and a vampire. I promise it’s not as dumb as it sounds. Tyrian’s parents are missing and he’s become king sooner than we expected, so he’s still mostly acting like a prince and is carefree and kinda irresponsible when it comes to his royal duties. He has a bit of a hero complex about his dad, who was an actual hero (it’s a job description in the Otherworlds) and who he feels he’ll never live up to.

None of this is relevant to the comic, in which he and his boyfriend Will mostly say dumb things to one another and are nerds. He likes reading and writes historical romance and dreadful fanfiction in his spare time, most of which he won’t let anyone read. 

I’m trying to get as close to the voice in my head as possible for this guy. Best advice I can give you is that he sounds like a sassy butler.  EDIT: Aurelia's description of 'just pretend you're really posh and you think you're sexy' is pretty accurate. Sound posh and fabulous.

Aurelia is a half-French, half-Japanese cat yokai. She got stuck in Fairyland as a small child, and was found stealing food from the royal kitchens, so King Connall took her in. Tyrian’s childhood friend, she was his fool until she quit to become his bodyguard/a royal guard instead. She’s his best friend and the one who kicks his butt when he needs it. Quite the troll. Likes to mess with Will, but will always side with him against Louis. Party girl. Cast iron confidence.

Mrs Winters moved to Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Earth, to get away from monsters like fairies and pixies and griffins that used to raid her hometown in the bad old days. Unfortunately all her talk of monsters and fairies only served to ignite a passion for them in her son, who brings a fairy home, to her initial dismay. She gradually gets less unhappy about it, but still reminds Tyrian that if anything happens to her son because of him, she’ll make him regret it.

Cynthia is Will’s little sister and she’s just as enthusiastic about fairies as he is. She’s keen to show what she knows, and not afraid of Tyrian in the slightest, fairy, vampire or whatever. She blames the internet. She likes most of the same things Will does, and is just as much of a sneaky rule breaker, borrowing his games (that she was specifically told not to touch) while he was away in ‘Japan’. Will hasn’t seen much of her in nearly two years, so he kinda still thinks she’s nine and is surprised when she acts older.   

British, but like Will, has an American twang.

A painfully shy teenage vampire from a Victorianesque culture. He has gone to stay in Fairyland to learn independence. He’s staying with his uncle Tyrian, who is the king. He’s most terrified of humans in particular, but any social interaction is difficult for him, as he’s spent his life meeting only family members occasionally. He likes reading.  
A protagonist in the books but support in the comics.

Soft-spoken. Sounds more like a child than an adult, as his growth is stunted. He has a stutter which gets worse when he’s especially nervous.

Lucinda is an Earthling girl who works as a fairytale prince. She works for Rent-A-Legend, an agency that fixes stories. She’s friends with Will and Princess Erlina, so visits Fairyland sometimes for social/work reasons. Nerd. Likes anime and cosplay.
A protagonist in the books, but support in the comics.

She’s from Manchester, so has a Northern accent.

The Crown Princess of the Light Realm of Fairyland. Best friends with Lucinda, she helps her on quests and also does Rent-A-Legend quests on her own. Though not biologically related, she and Tyrian are brother and sister. Very proper, she tries to follow princess tropes, as she feels she’s expected to. 

Very posh British accent. Like, a typical, old school princess accent.

Will's dad. An accountant from Stratford-Upon-Avon, but married to a woman who moved there from another planet. He’s super chill about the whole thing. He didn’t really take his wife’s stories about fairies being dreadful all that seriously, so when his son brings one home he just asks if he’d like a cup of tea. Notices right away that they’re dating, even before they officially are. Pretty unflappable, and just a really nice guy.
