Valiance and Villainy: Spark of Hope - PILOT
Project Overview
Valiance and Villainy is an audio drama focused on an original universe of superheroes and the society in which they function. To date, Bountiful Toad Productions has roughly 15 seasons worth of written content to draw from with over 400 original characters of all age ranges, races, orientations, and backgrounds. We will start small in a localized area, and eventually, the story will span the globe.
Season 1, Spark of Hope, follows multiple perspectives as the Fine Line Agency attempts to uncover the dark secrets that caused the horrific and devastating Los Esperanzas Incident five years prior. Can the world’s finest crack the case?
Warning: Valiance and Villainy contains mature language, drug use, scenes of violence, and depictions of reliving trauma.

BLACK VAs WILL BE PREFERRED FOR THIS ROLE.
James Culvert, “The Ranger” or simply Ranger, is a former Army Ranger. Highly proficient in use of a bow, Ranger prefers to use quick, silent tactics to subdue his foes. Ranger is highly against the concept of licensing individuals to be heroes, believing that bureaucracy dilutes quality of work and risks more lives. Ranger is quick to anger and has deep seated trauma from his time on tour. Ranger should be kind and good-hearted, but also confident and commanding. He leads the trio of vigilantes spotlighted in the Pilot.

‘Nuff of that Zin, not everyone can give. Remember, we’re doing this to keep people safe, not as a profession. We’re better than MercuryTech, better than eHero.
Mud.. really? Your gift is to make dirt.. Into mud? I could do that with a garden hose.
Okay, Kal, well, why don’t you start by telling us what happened to your friend so we can call an ambulance.
Agent 17 is a meticulous, detail-driven, and hard-to-shake individual who has seen it all on his time with the Fine Line Agency. His Gift allows him to understand all details about an individual just by gathering their name and seeing their face, but he does not obtain their memories. Agent 17 should sound in control, unbothered by stress, and at times empathetic.

When you pride yourself on being the World’s Greatest Detective Agency in the realm of Gifteds, there is a certain standard to hold yourself to. Now, I will ask again, what is it that you do?
For consistency’s sake, please use your team’s monikers. There could be many James in your clearly highly recollected story.
Clear. Assessed him myself. He’s telling you the truth, remember? That’s your Gift.
NATIVE AMERICAN AND HISPANIC VAs WILL BE PREFERRED FOR THIS ROLE.
Running Water, moniker “Hell Lupi”, is the last remaining member of a cloistered Native American tribe seated in Southern California. Though his tribe was murdered, their spirits live on as guides, and he seeks retribution for what happened. The trauma of the event left him speaking only monosyllabically. Hell Lupi is mysterious and intimidating, but on the inside is as soft as a teddy bear. He finds humor in many things despite his serious demeanor. Hell Lupi should sound focused when on the job, but relaxed and casual when not. The difficulty of this character is bringing emotion and not letting him speak flatly.
Stay. Clean. Wound.
Hmm.. Safe? No. Good? Yes.
(Squinting) Dick.
BIPOC VAs WILL BE PREFERRED FOR THIS ROLE
Janette Garner, moniker Shatter, is a skilled thief and infiltrator. Her Gift allows her to “shatter” anything she touches. Janette is masterful in deduction, deceit, and stealth. She is part of a trio of thieves that will be showcased in a later episode. Janette aims to get rich and to do it by taking from the cocky and overabundant crime dens throughout Los Esperanzas and Las Pecados. She should sound sure of herself and unwavering in conviction. Once she sets her sights on something, nothing can stop her.

Cocky so-called-heroes give away everything about themselves with their name. You make illusory copies of yourself, or “specters”.
How’d the hell you even.. Whatever! I don’t have time for you! Move it!
Don’t be on the backfoot now. We just started, and you’re already lookin’ for a way out?
Frasier Reeves is a news reporter for a station in Los Esperanzas. He has that winning smile and is always well-dressed and well-groomed. Frasier has set out to promote heroics in an effort to create change and growth in hero society. Frasier is also most certainly hiding something.. He should sound warm and charismatic, but believable with his delivery of reporting. We do not want the announcer-type reporter.

Looks like The Ranger has BLOCKED Blockader’s escape, and once again stopped a criminal on the run.
With vigilantism at an all time high since the introduction of professional hero organizations, many critics have been quick to point out the dangers of these outside-the-lines saviors.
Good, made it here before the police. No casualties, lighting’s good. Alright! Let’s go!
MRT’s (Pronounced Murt) prerogative is unknown, but he is associated with the criminal Red Knuckle. His Gift allows him to change dry earth into mud, which he uses to his advantage in melee combat. He is easy to anger and offend, and has many misconceptions about how laws work. MRT should sound unempathetic, sadistic, and angry.
What the hell are you poundin’ on my door like the damn cops for?
Stupid fuckin’- Where the hell does he even find idiots like these?
*sadistic laughter* Come on, Army Man! Breathe! BREATHE ARMY MAN!
HISPANIC VAs WILL BE PREFERRED FOR THIS ROLE.
Jose is associated with Red Knuckle and works alongside MRT. He has no Gift, but he does carry a weapon. Jose is inexperienced when it comes to gauging the Gifts of others, which leaves him surprised and caught off guard very easily.

Janette Garner, street name Shatter. Looks like she’s got a record as a petty thief. She give any details as to why she was running with Marshall Ray Tucker?
*Sigh* Okay.. And Jose Flores? He give you any info?
Wonderful, well, I think that’s all we’re getting here. Thanks for calling us, and uhh.. Maybe next time wear a mask. You know what you’re doing’s a crime right? I could take you in along with ‘em?
Male young adult. Any accent. Any vocal range.

This coming just moments after the terrible calamity that has devastated Los Esperanzas, California.
Sources say the city could remain uninhabitable for years. The damage is still being assessed at this time.
Unfortunately, we're not able to get any closer to the city for a bird's eye view due to the city still being a hot zone for volatile conditions.
