Undertale Podfic Series: "Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach"

Undertale Podfic Series: "Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach"

Project Overview

Howdy! We are currently looking to create a podfic (AKA a fan audiobook) of unrestedjade’s long, but fantastic fanfiction: “Flowey is Not A Good Life Coach”, a story centered around Papyrus and Flowey.

(TW: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Mentions of Abuse, Swearing)

We already have Flowey casted, but we are still looking for other talent to play the Narrator, Papyrus, Undyne, Sans, Alphys and some minor characters as well when they eventually make their appearance.

Word count of 105,795. It will be a 25 episode series, each episode covering a single chapter.

  • View the Google Doc here!

  • View the script for the first episode here!

TO BE CONSIDERED:

  • Submit auditions through CCC or directly to [redacted]

  • Have little/no background noise

  • Have varied and expressive takes (1-2 takes for Narrator lines, 3 takes for character lines.)

  • Read the lines accurately (No ad-libbing)

  • Have discord (Include handle in audition)

NOTE: While we are looking for a separate narrator for FINAGLC, Sunbyte Studios is also looking for narrators in general willing to lend a voice for other podfics we want to bring to life someday! If any of the fandoms listed on our page catch your eye and you would like to be considered for a narrator position, let us know!

Latest Updates

  • All roles have been cast!

And with that! All our main roles have been casted, I want to thank everyone again for auditioning! It was gut-wrenching having to choose between so much diverse talent, it kept us awake at night. Although our main roles have closed, "Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach" has a HUGE range of different characters. So this is far from the last time you'll see a Casting Call for this project! Once more characters appear within the story, more roles will open! We urge all who unfortunately didn't land a role this time around to audition for these newer roles when they pop up! Thank you all, and we'll see you again very soon! :)

  • Howdy! Here's an explanation!

Howdy! We've had an excellent array of auditions be submitted thus far and we are over the moon about it! With every single audition, we feel as if we're one step closer to bringing this podfic to life and creating something truly special. Now, there are a few things I neglected to mention before that I think should be explained a bit here:

-Every audition will eventually be met with comments explaining what we liked the most about the audition and/or any critiques we may have.
-Reauditions are always encouraged! We'd love to hear you resubmit according to any critiques we may provide. We also would like to ask for you all to keep the original audition rather than deleting them as a means of comparison.

-The deadline is a bit more strict than we originally let on, we want to give the most time we deem possible to receive the most auditions as we possibly can. We will officially cast the roles on the deadline listed, unless an unforeseen event arises and we're forced to delay.

-This is a long project, and will take a more lengthy time to complete, so dedication and willingness to stick with us is a huge plus in auditioning. We are debating on casting understudies for every role but we have not yet officially decided. We will keep you all updated once an official decision is made.

Great job everyone on the submissions thus far! You are all so, so talented. And we're excited to see what comes next.

Role assigned to: June Holoubek

A high-energy skeleton who embodies confidence and charisma. Under his bold exterior lies a genuinely kind heart. In the events of "Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach," he initially serves as a friend to Flowey. However, the narrative takes a dark turn as he becomes an unwilling participant, forced to endure mental and physical torment that slowly erodes his spirit, leaving him a shadow of his former self.

Medium to high pitched, masculine, brash but simultaneously warm and energetic with a touch of forced regality.

We are looking for someone able to accurately portray Papyrus’ character shift, someone who can go from being uplifted and excited to someone who is paranoid and lashes out.

Someone open to portraying him in future projects is a major plus!

  • (Curious) “Well, so what were you before? Were you cursed? Are you under an evil spell? (Frantic / Lighthearted) It’s not the kind that has to be broken by a kiss, is it? Because I’d like to point out right now that I don’t even have lips, and as much as I-”

  • (Desperate / Hopeful) “I know you're hurting. I know you suffered things you didn't deserve, and I can't imagine what it must feel like to be in your position. But you must stop. If you're my friend… I know you can do better, if you try. I'm sure of it.”

  • (Furious) “Oh, that's rich! So, I'm supposed to be peppy and cheerful all the time, am I? I'm not allowed to have a bad day? You're the one who stumbles around unwashed and half-dressed all the time! You don't do anything unless I physically shove you outside, and even then you put forth the absolute minimum effort you can get away with. When's the last time you washed those clothes? When's the last time you showered? Do you even remember? You smell like wet dog hair and feet. You can't even- no, you refuse to take care of yourself. You refuse to take anything seriously. You think I want to drag you along by the wrist for the rest of our lives? You think I want to be the one keeping you going day in and day out? I should be asking what's wrong with…I should…”

Role assigned to: Lunar

She embodies passion, aggression, and retains a bold demeanor while standing firm in her beliefs. Always committed to fairness, she always extends her efforts, even to those who oppose her. And she is always equipped with a genuine desire to help others. During the events of FINAGLC, Undyne finds herself taken aback by Papyrus' sudden improvement in his magical combat abilities. However, awe transforms into concern and distrust as she begins to observe troubling signs of Papyrus’ mistreatment. After witnessing Papyrus' efforts to conceal the source of his abuse, which included physically restraining Undyne, she impulsively makes decisions in a desperate attempt to aid him.

Medium to low-pitched, feminine, raspy, energetic.

Someone open to portraying her in future projects is a major plus!

  • (Proud) “You've really buckled down this past month. Don't think I haven't noticed how hard you've been working. No offense, but I'd feel like total crap if I sent you out unprepared and you got hurt or something. But you've really proven how serious you are about this, Papyrus. After seeing the burning, righteous passion you showed me today, I feel like it just isn't right for me to deny your dream anymore. You're in, buddy. I'm swearing you into the Royal Guard right now.”

  • (Hissing) “Who did that to you? (Turning to Sans / Upset) You said he was sick! Who did it? I will put them in the fucking ground.”

  • (Concern / Slowly turning to regret) “What do you mean, 'no'?! You're fucked up all down your side, you broke your own damn arm-- not to mention none of that should even be possible! Something's wrong. Look, I know I blew you off earlier when you were freaking out, and I'm sorry. Maybe… I don't know, maybe I rushed everything too much. If this thing with you is getting worse, then...”

Sans embodies a lazy and mischievous nature, often found napping on duty and indulging in frequent breaks. His laziness stems from a blend of fatalism and apathy. Despite his own lack of enthusiasm for life, Sans shows genuine care for those close to him and possesses a keen sense of observation. In FINAGLC, Sans becomes immediately suspicious of Papyrus, detecting abnormal shifts in his brother's mood and signs of mistreatment. Following a significant emotional outburst from Papyrus, their once-strong bond begins to strain, worsening as the story unfolds.

Deep, masculine, laid-back, unenthusiastic but not monotone.

  • (Worried / Trying but failing to mask it) “No, listen, you're acting really off and it's weirding me out. We're family; we don't… We don't keep things from each other. So, I'll ask again. What's going on with you?”

  • (Angry / Frustrated / Upset) “...And I don't know what I expected tonight; I just thought, I don't know… You spend all this time alone out here, and you're always nagging me about this stuff, and it could have been… it could have been...fun, or something. Like that day last week. Like...like before. I thought maybe we could help each other out, like we always do. All you've been trying to do this whole time is get me to give up and leave.”

cast offsite

Alphys is a reserved introvert, who grapples with shyness, often stuttering. She struggles with low self-esteem, and frequently uses self-deprecating remarks and undervalues her own abilities. However, Alphys possesses remarkable intelligence, with analytical prowess and keen observational skills. In FINAGLC, Alphys happens to turn to Papyrus for support following Undyne being caught in an almost fatal accident, rendering her bedridden. This shared experience forges a meaningful bond between them, allowing Alphys to discern subtle signs of Papyrus' distress when he confides in her. Motivated by a newfound understanding, Alphys is determined to offer her best help to Papyrus in whatever way she can.

Role assigned to: Oddbrother

This role is more challenging compared to the others. In FINAGLC, there are two variants of the narration: one seems to come more from Flowey's perspective, and the other comes more from Papyrus'. Being able to successfully shift between narrative tones while maintaining the same overall voice is a huge plus. Style will be indicated by (F) and (P) letters within the script.

TENTATIVE ROLE: Anyone of any voice range can audition.

Please enunciate clearly, and make it engaging! Give 1 take for each; have a 2nd take only for any specific sentences you wish to try a different inflection with.

  • (F) (Sadistic / Apathetic) Generally speaking, Papyrus served as a break from Flowey’s heavier experimentation. A palate cleanser, of sorts. That routine was starting to get a bit stale, unfortunately, and as they enjoyed the night air together, Flowey went over some options in his head. It wouldn’t do to get too extreme right at the start, or anything to follow would feel anticlimactic. Besides, sadism was one thing, but thoughtless brutality on its own was dull. He could do better than that. The real deal was seeing how far he could push a personality off the rails. To see how much he could disorient them, to see just how much it took to flip the switch. To take someone apart, learn how they worked on the most intimate level possible, and then rewire them any way he wanted.

  • (P) (Worried) Papyrus had always had excellent control over his magic. Even Undyne said so, and as the extremely cool and strong captain of the royal guard, she would know about such things. Not that Papyrus lacked confidence in his abilities, but confirmation that he was great was nice all the same. He used to like using his magic. He loved making gracefully rolling waves of lovely bones and sculpting intricate, baffling patterns for his would-be opponents to navigate. His sense of honor precluded any underhanded tactics; he liked to think that as a fighter he was tough, but fair. And he always, always knew exactly how much damage each attack would do if successful. That was why it was so upsetting to see what remained of Undyne's practice dummy after his last attack. Bits of musty old stuffing floated through air around them like snow. Splinters of wood and bits of burlap were embedded in the cavern wall.
