Project Overview
UKIYO - n, meaning "the floating world" - detached from the modern bothers of life
Meet UKIYO Project!, a Vocaloid Cover Group.
My goal of this project is to bring light to the more backstage Vocaloid songs, as well as highlight the best of the best through singing, acting and as much else as we can!
The Project will consist of a group of talented voices as the Vocaloids, as well as a Tech Team to produce our covers. We'll be singing mostly in English, translyrics written for each of our covers by assigned jobs within the group. As well as having solo songs, we're also going to be covering group songs and mash-ups, as well as songs with multiple Vocaloids in the videos, such as Witch Hunt (featuring Rin, Len, Miku, Luka and Gakupo). If you're interested in auditioning, that's excellent! Before we get to that, however, there are some rules that need to be covered for this project.
1. The first rule I ask is that you have a quality microphone. In all honesty, even if you have an amazing voice, using an iPhone mic doesn't often keep very good quality. One cheap mic that is acceptable for choruses is the Blue Snowball (this is made by the same people who make the more better-known mic, Blue Yeti).
2. You are allowed to audition for up to three characters! Make sure to make them the ones you're most comfortable in, as I'll be casting on your natural voice ability.
3. Make sure to have a Discord or Skype! We'll be using one of these sites for group communication, as this makes it much easier to communicate as a group and plan our covers.
4. Please audition with either a capella or mixed audio. I don't mind which you pick, as I'll choose for vocal quality, mic quality and character likeness.
5. When auditioning, be sure to introduce yourself beforehand! Please state your name and what you'd like to contribute to this project.
In addition to our Vocaloids, we need a Tech Team, too! Mixers, Animators, Tuners, Translyricists and Artists are needed for this project. We'll need quite a few mixers, especially. All in all, thank you to everyone who auditions, and I hope you have interest in this project!

Hatsune Miku is your normal teenage girl--that is, if every teenage girl is a bubbly pop star idol! Though she's naive at times--and a little jealous--she means well, and has a sweet voice that's definitely one of the most widely-recognized in the Vocaloid community. She's a light, happy and outgoing teen who never stops singing to convey her emotion! Don't get too comfortable, though; compliment her too much and she'll only start thinking of herself.
Vocally, I'd like to cast someone who can easily hit into the higher soprano range for Miku. Her songs are wide in range, though most of them are on the higher songs. She has many hits, but we won't be covering all of them; instead, I'd like to focus on some of the more uncommon songs for Miku.
Sing at least a minute of a Hatsune Miku song of your choice. Whichever you believe shows your voice off best, I'm fine with!
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Hatsune Miku is an excitable teenage girl... if teenage girls were bubbly pop idols! She's a little naive, though sweet and a little aloof at times. Don't compliment her too much, though--she'll only start to think of herself.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: For Miku's voice, I'm looking for a soprano who can comfortably belt her higher notes, as she has many of them. Someone who can express excitement in their voice would be ideal.
Luka's personality is that of a more mature, moody and mysterious girl. She's mature, the opposite of Miku's excited, teenage nature. She's self-reliant and her voice is strong, beautiful and natural. She's level-headed and cool, elegantly mysterious. Luka represents drama and love, while other vocaloids represent happiness and friendship (vocally, at least).
For Luka, I'd like to cast someone with a mezzo-soprano voice to a higher alto tone, as her songs are still high. Unlike any of the other vocaloids, though, her voice is a bit more adult-sounding than the rest.
Sing a song that shows off your voice for Luka's range. Make sure it's one of her songs, but which one is your choice!
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Luka's personality is definitely more mature than other Vocaloids, and she's more mature than them, to boot. She's mysterious and moody, as well as being a bit older than most of the Vocaloids.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: I'm looking for someone who can show off the gravitational beauty of slower songs with Luka's voice. It's a bit softer, and her voice is lower than Miku's, so you'll be leading more of the lower harmonies.
Gumi enjoys sports and is rather outgoing, excitable, and sweet. She's easy to excite and seems to be your normal girl-next-door, rather sweet to all. Though she delights in adorable things, she doesn't mind to dirty her own hands.
For Gumi, I'd like someone with a more natural-sounding voice that can still hit her notes with somewhat ease. I'm less picky with her voice, as it won't be as difficult as the more traditonal-sounding Vocaloids.
Sing a song of Gumi's that represents your vocal style, sounding like the character to a good extent.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Though girly, Gumi isn't nervous to get her hands dirty, and enjoys sports. She's outgoing and cute, your traditional girl-next-door.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: Gumi's voice is natural, and though not as high as Miku's, her voice is pure and soft. As Gumi's voice is less widely-restricted than the more traditional-sounding Vocaloids, I'm a bit more forgiving with her.
She’s cute and bossy and a little sassy, and enjoys having fun. Rin doesn’t have much concern for others that aren’t her (and maybe Len sometimes...) but nevertheless, means her best.
Sing a song of Rin's that matches your voice well, and do your best!
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: A bit spoiled in nature, she's adorable and enjoys bossing Len around. She's a little bit more than mischievous, and enjoys having fun more than anything else. She's in love with the idea of love, and too sassy for her own good.
VOICE DESCRIPTION: She's a bit young-sounding, and innocent (very contrasting to her own personality). Her voice is a bit all over the place sometimes, but tends to stay in that range.
Len is a little aloof and goofy sometimes, but tries his best whenever things go awry, or really in anything in general. He’s quiet when it comes to Rin, and just a bit of a pervert.
Sing a song of Len's (or Rin and Len's) that shows off your voice well. I'd be willing to cast a female voice in this role as long as it was low enough.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: I...I almost feel like Len is the meme of the Vocaloid community, though that might be because of his songs--where, if you need a reminder, someone always dies. Nevertheless, he's pretty submissive at Rin, and a bit of a pervert sometimes, though what portion of that is teenage boy and his own personality is hard to tell.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: I'm looking for someone who can have a somewhat higher feminine voice (alto range, most likely), and I'm willing to cast female voices for this part of the project, as well as the voice sounds masculine enough.
Meiko is the big sister type—more or less the vodka aunt as well, while we’re at it. She likes drinking and has a low voice, even for a Vocaloid.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Meiko is older, and her voice is quite deep and adult. She enjoys drinking--and inherently drinking games, mind you--and is quite easy to wind down. She's more of a big sister than anything, or the sort of vodka aunt you meet at family gatherings.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: Meiko definitely has the lowest voice of the Vocaloid girls in UKIYO Project, and her voice is definitely that of an alto range.
Kaito is cool and smart-looking, the flagship male vocaloid. He’s often framed for things he didn’t do, but he’s goofy in the best way and means well...with whatever that is.
Sing a song that shows off your voice, resembling that of Kaito's.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: A cool male who's a little bit goofy at times. Often framed for being a pervert--but don't worry, he's just caught at the wrong place at the wrong time...don't get weird ideas!
VOICE DESCRIPTION: His voice is soft and cool, and not too deep, though a standard male range is required. His voice needs to be strong and handsome.
Gakupo is a samurai, and a prideful male. He’s very confident in his good looks, and more than full of himself. Nevertheless, he’s poised and strong and a bit too cocky, but cute nonetheless.
Sing a song of Gakupo's that shows off your own individual voice.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: As a samurai, he holds an aura of peace and honor; however, wouldn't resist a sly smile every now and then. He is, however, a bit vain--this is due to his "good" looks and his pride.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: Gakupo's voice is a bit pitched, though not as cool and natural as Kaito's. I suggest going to his songs and listening to his voice to get the feel of it.
