Tokyo Ghoul Manga Dub

Project Overview

      Hello folks, and welcome to the page! My name is Troy, and I’ve been a freelance voice actor for almost 8 months now, and a huge fan of the renowned series Tokyo Ghoul (being my favorite manga). I was rereading the manga not too long ago, and an idea popped into my head. I decided to put together a project to bring the manga to life in any way I could. That being said, I decided to put together a team for a manga dub project. Together, we will bring one of the most popular manga series to life for my YouTube channel. 


As you can see, this will turn out to be a pretty big project in the end. I myself am only capable of so much, so that is why I’m calling upon multiple fields in order to achieve our goal. For this project, I’m looking for not only voice actors but video editors and audio engineers as well. Before auditioning, please take a look at the following requirements below. It provides very informative details about the auditioning process, guidelines, and more.


Requirements for VAs

  • Have really solid microphone quality. (XLR preferred)

  • Please do three takes per line for your audition. 

  • Please try to sound accurate to the English dub, but we won’t be too picky. 

  • Please list the equipment you use for voice recording.

  • Please list your contact info in your audition. (Discord and Email)


Requirements for Video Editors/Audio Engineers

  • Please submit files of previous works. (3-5 would be perfect)

  • Please list your contact info with your submission. (Discord and Email)


Audition Process

This opportunity is a good chance for voice actors of all kinds of experience. Whether you’re just starting out, or have been voice acting for years, this project is designed to bring together a community on top of doing voice-overs. The project will be unpaid, as it is simply a passion project of mine, but the experience is what will matter most here. 


As previously stated, you are allowed to audition for multiple roles. However, you will only get a max of three total roles if we feel you should deserve it or we are low on submissions. We’d like to be able to spread the wealth and give as many people as possible a chance to have a part. There are A LOT of characters in this series, so there’s a good chance you may have a part somewhere. 


Auditions will be open until the set deadline. If there are not enough people auditioning, this casting call will be reposted in order to fully cast. I request that you submit auditions and other submissions with the intent of committing to the project. This will be a long-term endeavor, considering I and many others still have school and life that get in the way of many things. There may be occasions where production will take a break in order to accommodate for life’s run-ins. However, that does not mean this project will never see an end. The goal for right now is to finish the first half of the Tokyo Ghoul (Through season one if comparing amount to the anime).


If you are chosen for the role(s), you will receive either a notification from this site or an invitation/friend request from me on Discord. My Discord name is Troy J.#1040. Once accepted, you will then receive an invitation to our Discord server that will be made for the project. There, you will have the chance to review further guidelines and future instructions.

We do not claim any rights whatsoever towards the Tokyo Ghoul series, belonging to the mastermind of Sui Shida and his team. I am working to create a wonderful team of creators in an attempt to show my appreciation for a series that I feel extremely passionate about.   • Deadline Extension

    Good morning/afternoon/evening folks! I wanted to make an announcement that most of the roles that folks have auditioned for will be selected today, as today was the original deadline for auditions. However, there were some characters that either didn't receive enough auditions, any auditions, or more characters that need to be added to the list. Therefore, the deadline for auditions is being pushed back an extra week so that we can get more people in on the project! Amazing job to those that have already auditioned and will be casted for roles today.

    Hello again, apologies for the second update. I wanted to announce that a new role has been added to the list. Rize Kamishiro is a very important character to the story, and I feel quite silly for not already having her listed for auditions. That is all, and I look forward to the auditions!

  • Extras

    Hello folks! I've been very impressed with auditions that have been coming in, and I look forward to seeing more as the deadline approaches. I just wanted to put out an update letting folks know that they shouldn't worry about not getting the role they auditioned for. There will be several opportunities in the future for more roles to fill. Not only that but if we think your audition is solid and worth having on the team, you will be asked whether or not you wish to play as extras in the dubbing! Be sure to keep an eye on the project as the deadline approaches. We may need to extend if there aren't enough auditions. Some folks may be cast by the deadline, and some roles may still be open afterward. Touka's personality is initially defined by her duality between rage and kindness, with her character arc centered around that rage fading as well as her kindness coming to the fore. She is inherently kind, but this was repressed at an early age. She is also rash and reckless mainly due to her abandonment issues, causing her to lose control of her emotions when losing someone close to her, and her insecurities over her ghoulhood, given the dangers associated with simply existing as a ghoul, as well as the necessity to eat humans to survive.

  • (Moments after slicing half the face off an ugly man who was trying to make forceful advancements on her)

    *Sigh* "Look what I did. I wasn't even hungry. I'll take an arm at least, even though Old Guy meat tastes nasty."

  • (Touka turns to Kaneki, noticing he is clearly invested in the dead corpse of the man she just killed, along with the severed hand she is holding in front of him)

    "What? Do you want this?"

  • (Touka responds to what she sees as a pathetic attempt from Kaneki to complain about his life and how it's nothing but awful)

    "Tell me!! 'Awful?' Gimme a break... Does that mean...things have been nothing but awful for me since the moment I was born? Like hell I'd help you asshole. You can die for all I care."

Hideyoshi (Hide) Nagachika

Most of the time, Hide has a carefree attitude, always joyful and friendly. Hide also has a very "determined" behavior. When he's set goals or decisions, he'll stick to them to the very end. Though he is loud and outspoken, Hide is usually found keeping most of his concerns to himself in order to not trouble those surrounding him.

  • (Hide chooses to swap from the discussion about ghouls, and indulge in a more "pressing" matter to him)

    "Anyway, Kaneki. Enough about ghouls. Which one's the cute girl you've been talking about? Is that her over there?"

  • (Hide attempts to wave down Touka from across the room to have her serve them, yelling to her)

    "Excuse me! Can you take our order?! I'll have a cappuccino! What about you Kaneki?!"

Hinami Fueguchi

As a preteen, Hinami was shy with a very gentle heart. She was also eager for knowledge and fond of reading in order to learn. She cared deeply for Touka and Kaneki, constantly expressing sadness and worry for the two's unhappiness. She also had a very pacifistic nature, having no intention to avenge her mother and father despite loving them so much. Hinami gradually coped with the deaths of her parents better and obtained a very cheerful attitude.

There will be a lot of progression for Hinami as a character. The same goes for the maturing of her voice as time passes. At the start of Tokyo Ghoul, she is but a child. So that is the voice we look for to start, but she will be expected to change her voice slightly but noticeably.

  • (Speaking to Touka about getting revenge on Mado for the death of her parents)

    "I can't... do more than this. I don't care about getting revenge or not... I... was just sad."

  • (Speaking with Banjo about how little she feels she can do for Kaneki to help)

    "I can't do anything, but I can keep someone company. So I want to be together with onii-chan in place of onee-chan, because onii-chan seems so lonely."

A kind and generous old man, the manager shows that he is both wise and reasonable even among the ghouls. As head of his organization Anteiku, he is not afraid to assert his authority, but his demands are mostly agreeable to Anteiku's members. Although rare among the ghouls, Yoshimura holds equal regard for both ghouls and humans. Although he has forsaken killing since leaving V, Yoshimura is clearly aware of how his past actions have caused irreversible damage to others. As a result, Yoshimura sees himself as "evil" and is willing to accept death at the hands of his enemies should it ever happen. Despite this sense of self-loathing, he is still willing to kill in extremely desperate situations to protect those that are precious to him, such as his subordinates.

    "He looks like one of us to me. Ghouls help one another. That is our policy at Anteiku Touka."

    "It all started...when steel beams fell on some students. One of the victims, a female student, died instantly. The other one, a young man, was on the brink of death. He needed an emergency organ transplant. The doctor chose...to implant the dead girl's organs into the young man. It seems those organs...belonged to Rize."

Due to a personal experience as an orphan during his childhood, Amon came to the conclusion that the world was wrong, therefore he made it his task to change it. Because he believes it is ghouls who are twisting the world, he views their eradication as a way to mend it. At heart, Amon is a likable, sympathetic young man with a great sense of justice, dedicated to his cause. He has lost many people throughout the course of his life and is fearful of losing more, he admits this to himself while fighting Kaneki, who incidentally feels the same.

What will I lose next? this is where I make my last stand. You absolutely won't pass through here. Eyepatch... you can take a small break..."

     "...I'm wearing this so that I don't forget the days I spent at the orphanage. At the time I didn't know of your daily slaughter. It’s only a symbol to repent for my ‘Sin of Ignorance.’ Since then I've felt nothing but hatred towards you. Even now you... It's disgusting that you're still alive."

Renji Yomo

Quiet and reserved, Yomo was originally a hot-blooded ghoul who would retaliate violently, especially against Uta back in their juvenile days in the 4th ward. Before working at Anteiku, Yomo was a very vengeful person. Since his meeting with Yoshimura, he gradually became more composed and loyal to the manager while he worked on the behind-the-scenes jobs unquestionably. Although he displays a cold demeanor, Yomo does care about his friends and coworkers.

    "Don't be fooled by Kanou or anyone else's sweet-talking. Just walk your path using your own strength. I know you can do it. I'm sorry... for never being able to explain properly."

Rize was a voracious, independent ghoul who acted as a femme fatale to those who fell victim to her charms. She was an enigmatic female with many acquaintances who were left with a mysterious impression of her, and those who came into conflict with her rarely came out alive, with the exception of Kazuichi Banjo, who found her self-dependence and strength attractive. She was extremely selfish and thought little to none of the hardship her binge eating habit caused to other ghouls. She had no ambitions and wandered the wards aimlessly to appease her boredom.

  • (Rize speaks in a soft voice to Kaneki, trying to explain to him how the world works through not only her eyes, but just about anyone living in this cruel world)

    "There are times when you have to give up on one thing to preserve the other."

  • (Rize is lecturing Kaneki as he descends into madness, trying to get him to realize how hypocritical his values are that were taught to him by his mother. This starts off with a more mellow, but critical tone before becoming stone-cold-seriousness with the final sentence)

    "Whose fault is it that things ended up like this? Coincidence? An accident? Fate? There's no such thing as fate. It's simply a combination of one circumstance and the next. And who is it that creates those circumstances? Who is it? It's you."

  • (Rize continues to lecture Kaneki, and now her voice remains cold and critical of him)

    "All of the disadvantages in this world stem from a person's lack of ability."

Nishiki is a diligent student and prodigy. He has an insensitive attitude with a knack for abrasive language. He also demands that people younger than him show respect for their elders. He joins Anteiku so that he is provided with food and doesn't have to kill humans to eat. After the time skip, Nishiki is primarily noted as a ghoul hunting other ghouls, showing little regard for the lives of both humans and ghouls alike. He is ruthless in dispatching those he considers troublesome or useless, killing those unfortunate enough to encounter him.

    "The moment you betray an idiot who believes in you and when their anguished expression emerges the looks of hopelessness and such from other humans, just doesn't stimulate ones' appetite the same way right?"

Mado was known for his obsession with ghouls and their kagunes for the purpose of making quinques. He frequently waited for the ghoul he hunted to bring out their kagune in order to obtain it, according to how all investigators do when looking forward to a new quinque. As an investigator, years of veteran-ship and expertise had given him a deep insight and intuition to sense a slight detail to determine someone's status as a ghoul.

Dr. Akihiro Kanou

Kanou appeared as a benevolent physician whose purpose is to ensure the health of his patients. He disregarded regulations if it allowed him to save the life of his patient. However, behind this façade lies the mind of a disturbed mad scientist. Kanou considered ghouls, or more specifically one-eyed ghouls, as a way for humans to evolve in order to escape the "birdcage" that is encasing the "world." He speaks in a calm and sophisticated manner with a hint of condescendence to whoever he talks to at some moments.

  • (Speaking at an interview after his operation on Kaneki)

    "She was pronounced dead upon arrival. We felt she died instantly at the scene. I felt it was my duty as a doctor to save the life in front of me. That's why I made the decision that I did."

  • (Dr. Kanou walks into the room as Kaneki awakens in his hospital bed)

    "How are you feeling, Mr. Kaneki?"

Kimi appears to have a calm and hardworking nature who is shown to be extremely loyal to Nishiki Nishio after he unknowingly helped comfort her after losing her family in an accident. Kimi also seems to be determined, she truly wishes for a world where ghouls will be able to live with humans. Her voice is very kind and comforting, yet sophisticated enough to match her wits and knowledge.

  • (Speaking with Kaneki about how she was able to accept Nishiki being a ghoul)

    "It’s true I was shocked... So, in the beginning, I was really puzzled about what I should do… But now... I think... I want to be by his side."

  • (Moments after Nishiki had bitten down on her shoulder in order to save himself from the fatal wounds dealt by Kaneki. Kimi opens up further to how she feels about him)

    "I was the only one in Tokyo... When I thought of being all alone and unable to see my family again I became really sad. It was bad but I started to think I would be happier if I'd died too... But, Nishiki-kun, you came to my side and saved me... So, it's fine. Continue living."

  • (The blindfold from Kimi's face, only for her to see Touka standing before her with her Kagune out. Kimi's eyes fill with wonder and curiosity)

    "How pretty..."

Yoriko is a friendly, sweet and caring girl who strives to become a cook. She cares deeply for Touka Kirishima and worries over her, but she often enjoys teasing about Kaneki being her so-called "boyfriend." She’s a very positive girl, a caring voice to compliment her personality.

  • (Yoriko sees Touka stop walking to catch a glimpse of Rize leading Kaneki down a dark alley, and decides to question her)

    "What's up Touka?"

  • (Yoriko sees Touka daydreaming about something while they are eating at school, and decides to see what exactly is on her mind)

    "What's up Touka? You seem out of it."

  • (Yoriko sees Kaneki in the background of Touka's room and does whatever she can to "help her" out with a wink and a thumbs up to top it off kind of attitude)

    "Oh! I meant this to be for the two of us, but... Here! I made meat and potato stew... Eat it with your boyfriend!"

Ogura is a publicity hound who pretends to be an erudite when it comes to ghouls so he can get media attention. He can be very boastful and egotistic as well.

    "One dead body will sustain them for a month or two. What that means is that the increased number of victims we're seeing are being consumed for pleasure."

  • (Ogura explains how ghouls cannot eat human food)

    "On top of that, their tongues work differently than ours do...so our food tasty revolting to them. Vegetables taste grassy, fish tastes fishy and meat tastes gamy."

This role will fulfill any moments in which there is a news broadcast being displayed. There are moments where a male anchor is speaking, and moments where a female anchor is speaking. This role is up for any that desire it.

The audio engineer will also have a vital role in the creation of this project. This role will simply involve making the audio files crisp and perfectly formatted to be used for the video. I’m not too big on how audio engineering completely works, so I would also like to take this opportunity to learn more from anyone that will be selected as an audio engineer. There is a good chance there will be multiple people chosen as an audio engineer for the project to divide up the work.
