To Judge By The Cover (Furry Visual Novel Dating Sim)

Project Overview

a queer visual novel furry dating sim. the rundown of the plot/concept is that some roughly middle-aged furries have gathered together for a bookclub, and the main character is new to the club and gets introduced to everyone.

voice work may be needed either very soon or in the far future when this game is re-released after the game jam period is over.

at minimum, you will be asked for lines for a few pivotal scenes and the endings (there will be at least two endings per character). in the future, we may go for a partially voiced version of the game.

at latest, the auditions will close at february 15. this gives the chosen voice actors around a week to get their lines in, with the ultimate deadline being february 25. thank you for the interest!

  • “Well… We're friends here aren't we? We're all like little contained stories, our words harder to read but they're still there. I know what it's like to feel alone but I know that I have people who love me and support me even when I'm at a low point.”

  • “I was hoping to uh… well meet new people. New friends are always nice but maybe I need something more. I don’t know, maybe it would just be nice to mingle and see where things go with someone who’d be interested.”

  • “That’s beautiful Jericho, I was lucky to have both my parents support me. Your kids are lucky to have a dad like you who loves and cares for them.”

Role assigned to: Kitsuota

On the surface, Ruth the Red Squirrel (a minor celebrity in her hometown as an actress) comes off as self-confident, knowing how to use her charm to mask her insecurities and cynical view of the world. She’s quick to judge, having learned how to use flirtatiousness to quickly assess someone’s nature and intentions, and struggles to change her view on someone if they 'fail' her test. She attends the book club to return to her academic roots (she never finished college) and learn all she can, voraciously so. Ruth acts friendly and mildly flirty even to fish out reactions from people to toy with them, but to her it is simply insincere, mild distraction. Overall there seems to be nothing that can fill the void left inside of her.

  • “Something catch your eye, puppy? Well, pleasure to meet you, and pleasure to have you at the club. Let’s hope this experience will be…A pleasurable one for both of us."

  • “If you wanted to meet people to hookup with, just get your horny, pathetic ass on a dating app, or some speed-dating event, or on a reality TV dating show for all I fucking care. Make a move on any of us just for the sake of it and I’ll make sure you regret it.”

  • “Here I am. Chasing connections that mean nothing to me, and maybe never will. Maybe they used to mean something to me. Not anymore.”

  • “Bodies are so restricting. They never quite are what you want. What you need, even. Having a body you can’t love is the most casual form of loss known to life…Everyone feels it at some point."

  • “Whether you’re mad that you aren’t strong enough or fast enough, or whether you don’t like your shape, it’s always something at some point. You could be 4, you could be 14, or 40. Everyone gets it someday.”

  • "Wait. Wait what? Huh? What're you talkin' bout? Like.. like date-me love me? Like.. marry-me-if-this-keeps-up love me? Uhm.. wait.. uh.. [dumbfounded]"

  • "Just don't tell me that you think that any lonely old man who thinks that he should pay for a woman in the restaurant is a piece of shit for you."

  • “Pass your little test then Ruth? Nice of you not to scare this one away with that trademark glare of yours. Been awhile since we’ve had someone interested in bookclub. I’m Jericho, why don’t you take a seat Eric?"

  • “I find this passage comforting, brings back memories of when I first moved here with my daughter and son. Coming to this town was probably the best decision I made at the time. I had my kids with me, no one to tell me what I was doing was wrong. I was happier than I probably should have been.”

  • ”I just wish their mother had felt the same, she had enough when my oldest was six and just gave up, leaving them without a second thought. Though I guess it was a good thing I never married her.”
