The Sales-Off (Animated Short Film) Voice Talent Needed!

Project Overview

Please read through the information below before applying:

INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW

Hey everybody! We're working on a 30 minute animated short film called The Sales-Off.

"Stuck working at a boring office job, Vincent dreams of playing the piano. Meanwhile, his lazy cubicle neighbor Jake grows determined to prove himself. The two challenge one another to a “sales off,” much to the delight of their manager Mr. Watterson."

We plan to release it periodically in five-minute segments on YouTube, as well as the entire film as one video once it is fully completed. We need YOUR voice talent! There are four main characters whose voices are a crucial part of the storytelling. The style of writing presented in this script is very conversational; so rather than exaggerated, cartoony voices, we are looking more for your natural voice.

REQUIREMENTS

* Must be 18 years or older

* Must be able to accept payments via PayPal only

* Have a means of easy communication (Discord, email, text, etc.)

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once you have been casted, I will reach out to you and send you a full copy of the script. We then, if possible, would like to schedule a table read via Discord before recording. Since all of us are in completely different locations, this will allow us to all be on the same page in terms of what the tone is, who the characters are, and the chemistry between them.

I will split payments in half, and will PayPal you the first half initially, then the second half after the recording has been completed.

I want you to have fun and be able to enjoy the process and feel a part of the team! We really want to make this something special and provide an opportunity to bring people together to show their creativity and skill in this project.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The deadline for applications is May 28, 2022.

EXAMPLES OF PREVIOUS PROJECTS:

GRIMSEY

Two years ago, I created an animated short film called Grimsey, a spooky tale of a skeleton named Adam who awakes in a mysterious place, lead to a mansion and its strange owner, Mr. Grimsey.

THE FRONT

An animated project I made for a client last year: a comedic little adventure about a rock band getting back together for a final reunion show.

As we are closing up the entries, I want to say a big thank you to each and every one of you who took the time to audition. There are many standout performances here, it is going to be a challenge to pick only four indeed. I would also like to thank Casting Call Club for making this whole thing possible. I am amazed and humbled to have received over 900 auditions! Please forgive us if it takes a few days to make our final decision on who will voice the four characters. We will get in touch with you if you are casted very soon. Thank you again! - Aaron

Vincent is a blue dog stuck working at a boring sales job. He dreams of being a pianist, but has to ignore his dream to focus on work. He is the best worker in the office. On the phone, he's suave and convincing in tricking people to buy products. He is a little uptight, and is frustrated with his cubicle neighbor Jake's laziness. But he genuinely cares about the people around him.

  • (Low, not in the mood to talk) Hey Jake. Nah, I just wanted to... tell Mr. Watterson something but. Pfft. It's nothing.

  • (On the phone making a sale) Excellent, I think we can make that work! 12 easy payments of 19-95. That's right, 1,995 dollars.

  • (Confronting Jake) That's like, your whole thing! You're the guy who plays video games in the bathroom while everyone else works.

Jake is a new, bright worker at the office who loves to keep his mind engaged; which is exactly why he is always playing video games on the clock instead of working. He is close with Vincent, having been taught the job by him, but also somewhat envies Vincent's abilities and work ethic. Though usually happy, the feeling that he's not good enough leads him to hide away and cry. He seeks to prove to Vincent and everyone at the office that he is not lazy and can really work hard, wrestling with his own inner self-doubt.

  • No problem Mr. Dubs, I'm glad we could make your day a little brighter!

  • (Upset at Vincent) You think you're so much better than everyone just cuz you can trick an old lady or two into buying some worthless crap! If I really tried...I could do better than you I think.

  • (Serious, macho) That is the name of a loser. Someone who never understood what it meant to be good at sales. That name is dead now.

Mr. Watterson is the manager over the sales office. He is torn between two sides: on one side, he genuinely cares about his employees and wants them to enjoy work; on the other, the boss expects higher and higher sales numbers out of them or else Watterson loses his job. He is a goofy guy, but also can be dramatic.

  • You know, Vincent, when I was a boy, I used to go fishing with my dad. He always told the craziest stories. I never believed them of course, I was smarter than that.

  • (Acting like a "tough boss" as he corrects Jake) This behavior needs to end immediately, or I'll have no choice but to write you up! No...fired! You're getting fired!

  • Ah, Vincent? Very hard worker that one. Well, I only hire the best! Wait...did you say he's "single-handedly saving the company"?

The "Assistant" is a higher-up sent in by the sales company's boss to inspect Mr. Watterson and his employees. He has a commanding, ominous aura, yet smiles and speaks in an off-putting, almost sarcastically cheery voice.

  • The boss has made his decision!!! He is sending me to evaluate you and your workers, personally. I will determine where the problem lies. Pray it is not with you.

  • Just forget about all of those little...distractions that keep you from working at your full potential. Those passions and dreams, let them die for a time, only for a time.
