"The Salem Society"
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION & OVERVIEW
Hello everyone! I am currently casting for a new dark teen Audiobook/Podcast called 'The Salem Society'. This story follows the tale of a young witch, navigating the mortal world and living with powers that she doesn't understand, with the help of her two older sisters.
I'm casting for the three sisters to begin with; Alice, Wren and Brianna as these are the central characters and the audio drama centres around these three characters. From there, I will be casting voices to be used throughout the season. If you are not cast for a leading role, and your voice fits the tone of the show, I may ask you to provide lines for supporting roles in the production.
All roles are in the English language. Actors must feel comfortable using an American accent if auditioning for one of the three sisters.
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
The deadline for auditions is October 1st, 2021. There are currently no plans to extend this deadline. Actors may be offered roles sooner than this deadline, if I feel the voice fits the character, with scripts send to offer holders soon after.
WHAT I ASK
- First and foremost, have fun! This is a passionate project and none of it means anything if the people involved aren't passionate about it too.
- Please submit clean recordings with minimal background sound. Noise reduction can be utilised but too much affects the quality of the files.
- Feel free to repeat lines to get your best/favourite take. Try saying them in different ways!

Alice Rigby is the lead role of "The Salem Society". She is a sixteen year old girl who is unaware of her supernatural abilities as a witch. Once she learns what she is, she begins to delve deeper into her family's past and explore her powers. This unchartered territory combined with Alice's bold character and curious nature will have consequences. The voice should be youthful, but strong. She keeps herself to herself, but she doesn't shy away from conflict when needs be.
ALICE
(sarcastic) Remind me why you’re here? No, I know it’s a small house yeah but see, even still, I’ve never had a room to myself before, must I barricade the door for a second of privacy? (Laughs) I’m obviously kidding Bree…What do you need? It’s in the corner.
ALICE
It’s like, this entire time I thought there was something wrong with me, and you, you let me believe it. You knew what I was this entire time, and you didn’t tell me. Don’t look at me like that. This changes things. This changes – everything, and I don’t even understand what it means.
Although Wren is listed as a supporting role, all three sisters have a near equal amount of lines and read time. They each play central roles in the telling of 'The Salem Society". Wren is Alice's slightly older sister, being eighteen, she has always been closest to Alice. Following Alice's discovery of her abilities as a witch, she becomes her pacifier and mentor. She is soft spoken and should appear to be youthful, but wise in her voice.
WREN
I get it. When I was your age I got in these awful moods that would make me lash out for no real reason. (Laughs) No, it was bad. Bree couldn’t even stand to be around me.
WREN
I don’t know what to say, this wasn’t my idea, I – We were trying to protect you. It wasn’t meant to turn out like this. I’m sorry.
Although Brianna is listed as a supporting role, all three sisters have a near equal amount of lines and read time. They each play central roles in the telling of 'The Salem Society". Brianna is the eldest sister by five years and so is more mature than her sisters, both in the mortal world and in the ways of being a witch. It is Brianna that decides to hide the truth from Alice, believing she is protecting her. She should have an audibly deeper and more matured voice than her sisters.
BRIANNA
This is great. And it’s four rooms you said? The girls will be thrilled. The girls? I doubt they’ll be long, I’ll fire up some food and they’ll be back here within the minute, just you watch.
BRIANNA
This isn’t a life I would have chosen for myself, but I didn’t have a choice. You do. Just because you are a witch, doesn’t mean you have to be.
