Project Overview
CASTING CALL: "The Powerless at Aurora Academy" — A Fantasy Audio DramaPROJECT OVERVIEW
Fragment is an original fantasy audio drama following Kaelen "Kael" Xena, an orphaned scholarship student at a prestigious magic academy who has never once shown a trace of magical ability — until a cruel accident thrusts him into a sealed, forbidden library and binds him to a fragment of a shattered, ancient god.
What follows is a story of survival, identity, and the terrifying cost of power: Kael must learn to control an ability that can heal a dying friend in one breath and nearly kill an innocent bystander in the next — all while ancient, unknowable forces far beyond his school's walls begin, for the first time in four centuries, to take notice of him.
This is a character-driven fantasy series blending:
Found-family warmth and humor between close friends
Genuine emotional and physical stakes — this is not a story where consequences are undone by the next episode
Slow-burn mystery and mythology — ancient gods, forbidden knowledge, and secrets that unfold gradually
Moral complexity — even our antagonists have understandable motives and are not simply "evil"
We are looking for voice actors who can bring nuance, warmth, tension, and genuine emotional range to a story that will span many episodes and a long-term character arc.
As of currently, this is an unpaid project but if it does start making money, I will be changing it into a paid project!
TONE & STYLEAn emotional grounding of a coming-of-age drama, the mythological scale of epic fantasy, and moments of genuine, easy humor between friends who love each other. Performers should be comfortable shifting between light banter and heavy, high-stakes emotional scenes — often within the same episode.
ROLES CASTINGKAELEN "KAEL" XENA — Lead ProtagonistAge (character): 17–18 | Voice type: Teen/young adult male An orphan, quietly brilliant, used to being underestimated. Guarded but warm once trusted. Needs to convincingly portray: dry self-deprecating humor, quiet resilience, genuine fear and vulnerability, and later, moments of frightening, otherworldly power where he's not fully "himself." Range from soft-spoken and uncertain to commanding and intense is essential.
ELIRA VOSS — Deuteragonist / Best FriendAge (character): 17–18 | Voice type: Teen/young adult female Sharp-tongued, fiercely loyal, the group's planner and protector. Needs comedic timing for banter as well as real emotional weight in quieter, frightened moments. Confident delivery, quick-witted line reads.
REN THACKERY — Kael's Roommate & FriendAge (character): 17–18 | Voice type: Teen/young adult male Easygoing, dry, deadpan humor; comic relief with real depth underneath. Needs strong comedic timing and understated delivery — the humor works best when played completely straight-faced.
HEADMASTER AURELIUS VANE — MentorAge (character): 50s–60s | Voice type: Mature adult male Reserved, controlled, quietly guilt-ridden beneath a composed exterior. Needs gravitas and authority, but also warmth and vulnerability in private moments — this is not a stock "wise old mentor," but a man actively wrestling with his own past mistakes.
DORIAN ASHCOMBE — AntagonistAge (character): 17–18 | Voice type: Teen/young adult male Privileged, cutting, publicly confident — but with cracks of real fear and guilt underneath. Should be able to play cruelty that feels human and motivated, not cartoonish.
BASTIAN COLE — Supporting / Morally ConflictedAge (character): 17–18 | Voice type: Teen/young adult male Quieter, more reluctant than Dorian. Needs to convey guilt and internal conflict convincingly, often in short, hesitant lines.
THE WATCHER — Mysterious EntityVoice type: Open age/gender, distinctive and unusual Ancient, unhurried, speaks as though time means nothing. Looking for a performer who can bring stillness and weight to a voice — slow, deliberate pacing is key.
THE SHIFTING ONE — Mysterious EntityVoice type: Open age/gender, distinctive and unusual Curious, unpredictable, faintly unsettling. Looking for a performer comfortable with a voice that feels alive and mercurial — this character may be voiced with subtle shifts in tone or affectation to reflect its ever-changing nature.
ADDITIONAL ROLESAdditional minor and recurring characters (professors, students, staff, and future characters as the story expands) will be cast on an ongoing basis. Actors are welcome to audition for multiple roles.

Our intended release schedule is at least one new episode per week, and we are looking for performers who can commit to a recurring role across an extended production timeline.
