The Old Soldier and The Carny
Project Overview
This is a short radio play about a retired soldier reflecting back on his past as he play a shooting game at a carnival. Final product is intended for a youtube audience.
Requirements:
Good quality mic
Be able to act.
Absolutely no puffs or cracks.

Ted is timid and a scardy-cat. As such, he is nicknamed Teddy Bear within his squad.
(Scared stiff)….. I don’t want to. You saw how many of them there were! Even though you say that their line is thinner to the west, there’s no way we can get through it! If we’re all going to die anyways, then I would rather live as long as possible. I’m going to stay here and wait for the air strike!
(Feeling hopeless) I’m done…I don’t want to do anything anymore…I don’t want to kill anyone…I don’t want to be killed by anyone.
(Holding back tears)Yes sir, I have a lot of confidence in my sense of humor!
Jim is aggressive and have a bad mouth. He is a bit immature and has a quick temper but he cares for his comrades. Tsundere. He will be swearing alot.
(Serious) This isn’t funny. I thought you were just chicken shit but now you’re disobeying orders?! What the fuck is wrong with you!
(Making fun) You were all like, “Humor?…Don’t underestimate me just because I’m a woman!” and we were all like, “Who the hell is this bitch?” and laughed our asses off!
(Cornered and about to die) Hey…heyheyhey!...The fuck are you counting? Stop it! I said stop it! Fuck… Fuck! Fuck! You fucking bastards! Guaaaaaa!
Looking for a strong female voice for her but she has a caring side. She always argues with Jim but respects him as her team member.
(Caringly) You just wanted to understand them, right? About our opponents… The people we may have to kill or be killed by tomorrow. At least, I have thought about things like that. I would have no other reason to bring back an enemy soldier’s journal with me otherwise.
(Angry at Jim's remarks) Sergeant, requesting permission to shoot this man!
(Lashing out, rejecting reality) He what?! (Grabs Ted by his collar) He what?! Tell me, what were you about to say? That man is a man who won’t die even if he is killed! (realizes and lets go) ...I...appologize...
Seargent of the squad. A respectable, understanding man who can be strict when needed. The actor for this character will also double as the old soldier. Young: 25-35 Old 65+
Young: (Strict) Private Ted Wilson. Choose! Will you come with me…or will you die by my hands! (Sincere) Listen Teddy. I am your Sergeant. I am tasked to look after all of you. I will not leave you behind in a place I know you will die in. It is my duty to lead you toward the possibility of survival, no matter how small that chance may be!
Young: (Dying) ...Teddy…You. Are. A. Bear. I have no doubt that you will become a strong man.
Old: This country’s festivals are as noisy as ever. I recall them saying that this is their form of elegance. (Deep breath) What a mysterious country this is.
