The Never Vales

Side character who befriends Prince Cadmus on accident. She takes on a slightly motherly role to him as his mother, the queen, had died a few years earlier. The prince confides in her and trusts her more than most. Elain cares for the boy and later in the story provides information on a hidden city. Even later, she marries and has children, keeping with the parental role in the story. In need of a gentle yet stern voice, sort of motherly and guiding.

Haiden resides in Estergate in their small library on the corner of a busy street. They enjoy reading and researching old legends and history. Emotional and snappy, but kind hearted and klutzy. They adore children and animals, their library is full of flowers along windowsills and in vases anywhere they can fit one. Haiden isn’t known to be the neatest person but they do try their best to follow their heart and remain genuine to who they are. Once you get to know this quiet librarian, they begin to open up and be louder about their thoughts and feelings. In need of a whimsical, head in the clouds sort of voice on the mid-high side.

Via is a power hungry citizen of Firon. Known as a thief and an incredibly good talker, this genius has blackmailed almost the entire Firon court by sleeping with them and threatening to tell the royal family. Feared among most though they’re not a great fighter and even fear physical fights themself, Via gets away with many crimes because of this. Upon meeting Greylinn, he will take control of them and slowly manipulate them into a toxic belief that Via cares about them. Via is known to be extremely charming and aggressive. Via will eventually die in a war and become a “ghost” only visible to Grey. 

A happy go lucky king. A bit dumb but overall a good king who cares about his kingdom and his son. He pushes his son to his limits but only in the way a father who wants to see his son succeed would. Deeper voice, overall himbo energy.

Queen Edith is a strict ruler who brought economic stability to Firon during her reign after years of mass poverty and instability. She is Princess Melian’s grandmother, Queen Odessa’s mother, and King Ophir’s mother in law. She’s very passionate about Melian taking the throne as a young woman, even though her granddaughter’s attitude is fiery and as Odessa calls it: “not fit to rule”. She’s persistent and stern, often going on lectures and rants. She will die of a sickness early in the story. Horace, low voice. 

Queen Odessa is a gentle ruler, unlike her mother. She’s stoic and doesn’t let the stress of her job show through her wise face. She’s not a major part of the story but does scold Melian a couple times and express her love for her daughter. Clear voice demanding of attention but not annoyingly so.

Strong, harsh ruler of Firon, King Ophir scrutinizes weakness and vulnerability. Master at war strategy, ignoring his daughter, and drinking heavily, I need a deeper, flat voice for the king.

Melian is a royal, specifically the princess and soon to be heir of Firon. She’s outspoken and bold, demanding respect as her father does. The family is cold but tolerates each other. Melian is quite the reckless teen but her parents insist on her taking the throne though she may not want it. She often finds herself conflicted between taking the throne for the good of Firon and for her sick grandmother whom she’s very close with, and following the dream she’s had since she was a child of being an adventurer and looking for the hidden cities she’d read about in so many books. Her grandmother wants her to take charge of the kingdom, believing she will grow into the responsibility of being queen. Melian, soft towards the gentle elder, doesn’t want to disappoint her but her heart will eventually find its way to adventure after an argument with the grandmother who soon passes. Melian will find out later and will have difficulty dealing with the guilt of the previous argument. 

Queen with a silky voice woven with warmth and welcome. Her presence feels like sunshine on your skin, though her kindness may deceive you, she’s an experienced veteran but is very hesitant to fight due to this. Will eventually be the one to send the group on the journey.

Greylinn grew up in Frey, poor and hardworking, taking care of their family of mother and six siblings. They’ve always been gentle and kind, smiling and willing to help anyone despite their unfortunate poverty. Grey understood from a young age that they would be the caretaker for their family as the oldest and strongest. They met Amara at a festival in Frey when they turned 12, bonding immediately and soon becoming very close. Amara and Greylinn seemed to be inseparable, doing everything together and protecting one another. Later, Grey would break down from the pressure of being the good guy on the journey to finding the hidden cities, and seeing Amara fall in love and drift away slowly, leaving them alone. They would eventually betray Amara and decide to become a villain, siding with an enemy kingdom and providing information from the other side. They also encounter Via who will go on to manipulate the kid into trusting them and no one else. Greylinn will come to regret this decision after an unexpected encounter with Amara, trying to recover their friendship and make amends with those they’d hurt and recover from Via’s mindplay.

Amara is an enthusiastic astronomer in Frey. They grew up in Firon and moved to the neighboring kingdom at five years old with their family. At 12, they met Greylinn at a festival and as said in Grey’s story, bonded quickly with them. They grew to be a knowledgeable astronomer and alchemist, growing close with the royalty of Frey who later sends them and Greylinn on the mission with the others chosen in different kingdoms to find the hidden cities. Amara is known to be outgoing, friendly and outspoken but seems to always have a hard time fitting in with those in Frey. Firon, being the dark place that it is, is looked upon as a place to be wary of and so those in Frey seem to also be wary of Amara no matter how open she may seem. She’s incredibly passionate about her studies and can spend hours going on about the history of each kingdom and city.

Fyiick lives deep in the Praria Forest in a large cave. Known as a war criminal and a traitor, they live alone, secluded and guilty, reveling in their own cruel actions by coping with concerning amounts of alcohol. No one really knows what they look like because of the mask always worn over their face. Fyiick exists almost as a legend in Estergate, known for assassinating the queen and being rumored to be a descendant of an ancient king. They don’t say much but when the group seeks out the criminal for information on the hidden cities, Fyiick’s dark ways may soften as they find safety in the determined young group of adventurers. In need of cryptic, deep voice for them! As unnatural and kind of- scary- as possible. In my partner's words: "Like canonical DreamXD and SwaggerSouls".

Cadmus is the prince of Estergate. During the beginning of the story, he’ll be dealing with the grief of his mother’s death. He’s sworn to himself that if he ever finds her killer, he’ll reap his revenge on them. He’s serious and hotheaded, smart but thinks somewhat like a teenager in the way that he acts. Dealing with feelings isn’t a strong suit for the young prince but with time and experience, Cadmus will grow wiser and more responsible. Later in the plot, he’ll be the one to send the group on the quest for the hidden cities. He’ll also be involved in a lot of political scenes and negotiations.
