Project Overview
About the Project:
The Mortuary Chronicles is an audio drama about a blogger investigating the abduction of thirteen young adults, who are trapped in an underground bunker and forced to participate in a deadly game. It is inspired by series such as Danganronpa, Her Story, Werewolf Game, and Saw. The story is made up of two sides:
The OUT:side follows a blogger in the aftermath of the incident as she attempts to piece together evidence and figure out what happened inside that bunker. This side is told through blog posts, with links to images, videos, and more to allow the audience to uncover the truth alongside her.

Most of the OUT:side cast will be referred to as codenames in this casting call, as their names and identities are spoilers for the overall story.
The IN:side tells the story of the thirteen victims through a series of audio files that will be linked through the OUT:side blog. These files are direct recordings of the events inside the bunker, and will be uncovered one by one to tell the story.
Disclaimer:This project is intended for mature audience, and will contain content such as death, violence, suicide, mental illness, disturbing imagery/audio, and crude language. There will be mild sexual discussions in dialogue, but nothing explicit will be shown or acted. Subjects such as bigotry, sexual assault and abuse may be referenced in backstories, but are not depicted directly in the story.
This project does not and will never use, nor condone the use of generative AI. Our story and art are completely human made.
Progress:The entire first draft of the IN:Side is completed, spanning a prologue + five chapters, and totalling over 290,000 words. The Out:SIDE will have a smaller number of voiced scenes, which are currently being written as the first draft of IN:Side is being revised. Voice Actors will receive lines directly upon being cast, and their input will be taken into account in regards to their character's dialogue.
Requirements:Must be 18+ to audition.
If you are 18 years old by May 1st, 2026, you may still apply.
Roles will be selected based on performance and audio quality.
No roles will be cast before the deadline.
Discord will be the primary communication method for staff.
This is an unpaid, volunteer project.
As with any project, reliable communication and delivery of lines is important.
You will be expected to keep confidential story information private.
You may audition for as many roles as you wish.

Voice Description: Medium to medium-high pitch masculine vocal range. No nonsense, severe, serious, occasionally smug. Wants to be taken seriously at all times and speaks as such. Always speaks with careful, rehearsed purpose, but voice tends to crack and rasp during moments of high emotion.
If you want something done efficiently and well, look no further than Akira. Although, the chances of him doing you a favour for nothing in return aren’t very high. Akira can be an exceptionally prickly person, blunt in his thoughts, with a high level of intelligence that tends to lead him to looking down on or underestimating others. Confident in his own assertions, he doesn’t take well to being questioned by those he views as lesser, and takes even worse to being wrong. He’s all about logic, and often fails to consider the feelings of others in his actions. Not that he’d care about anything foolish like that. What are friends for but to hold you back? That being said, he is far from an impenetrable wall of ice, with occasional sincerity and emotions slipping through the cracks he forgets to patch.

She has an excellent public speaking voice. Capable of speaking gentle and softer, but barely loses that formal edge except for very rare emotional moments.
Need help on an assignment? Amara can assist with it! Need directions somewhere? Amara can figure it out! Need an event planned? Of course Amara can do it! Hyper responsible and constantly on the move, Amara is the type of person who can’t ever just sit down and relax. She has a constant need to be doing something productive and helpful all day, every day. She dedicates her carefully planned life to working, studying, volunteering, maintaining her social life, and everything else that comes her way. It’s a wonder how she manages it all. She’s overly formal and can’t help herself in making grammar corrections, but is considerate of others and capable of being a comforting presence, even if she occasionally offers more solutions than simply listening. Amara defines a lot of her worth in how she can help people and in the betterment of humanity, for she understands how heavy burdens can be on others. So why not just carry them all herself? Since, after all, Amara can do it!

Capable of being far more excitable and eager when comfortable with someone. Awkward edge to their voice that can be initially mistaken as being aloof.
Calm, cool and collected. That’s how Chiharu comes across to most. That is, until one gets to know them better. Excelling both in brains and brawn, while keeping a concealed face at all times, you’d think someone who exudes such a mysterious presence would be a little more confident. Chiharu is a rather quiet, soft spoken person, having difficulties speaking their mind until it comes to high stress situations. Their primary method for coping is focusing on the here and now. They can also be assertive in their often worthwhile observations. Once they’ve warmed up to someone, a more warm, dorky side can be seen. Chiharu can become far more chatty, and words seem to fall from their mouth before they can think about them. It’s almost like they’re not quite used to having a friend to talk to, and afraid of the conversation fizzling if they are quiet.

Sounds like she comes from good money, while also being incredibly dorky at times. Playful in her speech and slightly nasally, but able to deliver harsh and articulated tongue lashings when necessary.
Have no fear! The incredible, fantastic, gorgeous, talented Evangeline Montoya is here! Evangeline can only be described as being nothing but purely herself, and refuses to bend or change to the will of anyone else. She’s something of an oddity, coming from proper and wealthy parents who expected her to pursue more… professional endeavours, yet she instead dedicates her life to nerdy hobbies, collecting trading cards and crushing the competition in games. She’s well aware of her strangeness, and couldn’t care in the slightest what others think of her. Loud, deeply caring about her looks, and self important, she commands attention in any room she’s in. While occasionally selfish and focused on her own needs and comforts, she can be exceptionally warm to those she enjoys the company of. She has no issue with speaking her mind or true feelings, no matter the consequence, and has the uncanny ability to read people with frightening accuracy.

Voice Description: Medium-high to high feminine voice. Shy, nervous, tense. Quiet and meek. Fretting sounding when distressed. Good at making high startled sounds. Occasionally sounds close to tears when talking. Can be sweet and gentle.
Shen Hanmei is not a fan of leaving the house. She’s often riddled with an immense amount of anxiety when it comes to the unknown. She is easily paranoid and on high alert at the slightest sign of danger. While not constantly in a state of nervousness, she’s not very good at managing her emotions, and is quick to tears in stressful situations. If given the option of fight or flight, flight will never fail to be her first response. This anxious attitude is not helped by being in the public eye for her music. Despite this, she is capable of moments of kindness. When she cares for someone, truly cares, she will be the fiercest of loyal companions. Her music is often said to bring tears into the eyes of others from its sheer level of delicate emotion in each note.

With an immense ego, self confidence, and the skills to back it up, Miori is always quick to deliver a sarcastic line or engage in teasing others around her. She can be an occasionally prickly person to get along with, since she’s almost constantly on guard. She despises being looked down upon, or perceived as someone helpless due to her disability. Miori is hyper independent, refusing to ask for help under any circumstance. She makes it well known that her intelligence is both a very useful asset, and an immediate threat to anyone who dares to try anything. She often appears vaguely laid back in order to come off as unbothered and unthreatened by those around her. Miori is a very stubborn and even more determined person. There are very few things in the world that can stop her when she puts her mind to something. She’s witty, quick with delivering words, and even quicker with deflecting any slights against her. She’s a realist, but can also be critical of others and has zero concept of holding her tongue.

Voice Description: Low pitch masculine voice. Serious, blunt, no nonsense. Intentionally short with his words at times. Deep voice. Rarely lets emotion into his speech. Can be gentle at times when more relaxed.
Rayyan comes across as a bit of an intimidating figure. He doesn’t often speak his mind, and the words that do come out are usually blunt and to the point, occasionally perceived as being harsh. His height, serious tone, deep voice and occasional resting glares don’t tend to help with this imposing impression he gives off. However, Rayyan is a massive softie underneath all of this, although he’d rather others don’t know that. He holds an immense fondness for animals of all kinds, especially his falcon, Malika. He’s raised her since she was a baby, and came with him from their home in Saudi Arabia. He doesn’t stand for any kind of mistreatment of animals and takes immense pride in helping them. He believes strongly in justice and what is right and wrong. He’s a good listener, and is capable of handing out gentle truths to those who need to hear it, yet is also woefully susceptible to a bit of good natured teasing.

Na-yeon is an extremely diligent student, very focused on academic excellence with her continued dedication to her studies. She claims to know a lot of information on a variety of subjects, consistently scoring high grades, making her a delight for any professor who comes across her. This is expected, given her family’s favourable reputation. She’s polite and well spoken with others, but not very personable. Studying seems to be her main focus in life, rather than connecting meaningfully with her peers. A bit of a pessimist, Na-yeon likes to be realistic about expectations, and doesn’t view naive hope in others very favourably. Still, she can have occasional moments of high emotions that usually end as quickly as they start.

Exceptionally polite and friendly, yet equally distant, Sora is something of an enigma amongst his peers. He’s admired greatly from afar, and sincerely kind to those around him, but seems to leave space between himself and others, making no effort to bridge the gap. He cares deeply about those he holds dear, and is highly empathetic to the feelings of those around him. He leaves little time for himself, often too busy to spare even an hour with others. Not out of a lack of care, however, for Sora is an extraordinarily selfless person. He is surprisingly strong willed in ensuring the well being of others, despite being otherwise private.

The brightness in her voice comes partly from a place of sincerity, but the persona can occasionally weaken, heard in strain to keep the attitude up in her voice. Loud when angry.
Victoria has the uncanny ability to be almost like a warm, cool sister to everyone she meets. As a streamer, she’s an incredible people person, having no issue interacting with others and having hundreds of topics to talk about. She can be smooth, cracks jokes, and keep any room thoroughly entertained and positive by her presence alone. It’s to a degree that it hardly seems possible for someone to sincerely be as Victoria presents herself. She can sometimes be brash, occasionally losing her composure when angered, but hey, angry crash outs make great clips! Victoria keeps her streamer persona at the forefront at all times. Despite the warmth and fun, those who look deeper get the sense it can be occasionally superficial or forced, especially when she’s tired. It’s nearly impossible to get to know the real woman under all the commentary and laughter, and Victoria intends to keep it that way.

Has a difficult time suppressing emotions in his voice. Often rude sounding, even in normal conversation. Not very well spoken at times, occasionally mixing up words or being grammatically incorrect.
Moody and hostile, Yuuto is more than just a difficult person. He’s notoriously hard to get along with, being rude and standoffish. He repels most who would even attempt to try to converse with him. He can explode with emotion over the smallest perceived slights. He doesn’t plan his actions or words, doing what he decides in the moment he wants to do, leading to a handful of legal and financial troubles. He can become surprisingly clingy to those who spare a bit of patience with him. Before the inevitable push away, of course, for Yuuto surely is better off alone. Temperamental as he is, Yuuto is not a bad person. His stubbornness leads him to not budging on what he believes to be good and right, and he’s unafraid to stand up to injustice, even if he’ll resort more to insults than structured arguments. He becomes awkward and unsure in situations requiring kindness and tact, quick to become harshly judgmental of his own inabilities. He, oddly enough, cares deeply about how others view him, but tends to assume the worst of their actions and intentions.

The inquisitive protagonist of the Mortuary Chronicles. Naomi is a cheery and excitable woman, who has an intense fascination with things morbid and dark, especially that of true crime. She’s well meaning in her pursuits, but has no idea how insensitive she can come across. Naomi doesn’t view many cases as that of the real lives and deaths of actual people, seeing it more like one would view juicy gossip. She struggles to employ true self awareness, since she has never experienced anything like the stories she reads herself. She’s not at all malicious, rather, encouraged by the online environment she’s around to view such horrors in an insultingly superficial way. She cares a lot about fashion and fun, and is determined to stop at nothing to uncover and share the happenings of this tragic event near her hometown. Even if she ends up far deeper than she ever would have expected. Or wanted.

A confident young woman, VENGEANCE enjoys being intentionally ominous and dealing out a fair share of sarcastic comments. She is a smooth talker, almost a bit charming. She never stumbles over her words, and enjoys the allure of a good mystery. Yet she also possesses a strong sense of justice and a need for truth, even if her morals can be dubious at times.

HAUNTED is an incredibly paranoid woman. She’s always on edge and on guard, and it takes very little for her to become alarmed and terrified. Even in moments when she’s calmer and at relative ease, there’s still a tightness and tension in the way she speaks. HAUNTED can often lose track of her words and become distracted, especially when she might perceive that distraction as a threat.

FOX is a hardened and harsh person. He’s seen the ugly of the world, and is a constant pessimist because of that. He doesn’t enjoy talking to others, and would rather find company in a bottle than with another human being. He doesn’t pull punches and makes his thoughts very clear in a gruff, blunt manner, and is in a permanently bad mood no matter the situation.
