βProject OverviewβThe Jukeboxitis (pronounced : JUKE-BOX-AY-TEECE) is a fast-paced, absurd comedy about a bizarre new epidemic: people are losing control of their speech and involuntarily singing hit songs to communicate. The story follows Max, who wakes up with the virus, and his chaotic attempt to get diagnosed alongside his hot-tempered, fiercely Canadian best friend, Chloe. As the epidemic spreads across the country, everyday conversations turn into spontaneous musicals, slam poetry sessions, and dramatic karaoke battles.
βNote for Actors: You will be the OFFICIAL English version/dub of this French indie project! This project requires excellent comedic timing, the ability to switch emotions at the drop of a hat, and a willingness to sing (whether beautifully or comedically badly) without taking yourself too seriously.
βCharacter BreakdownsβMAX (Lead - Male)
βPersonality: A bit naive, dramatic, and a massive hypochondriac. He is the first to catch the virus and panics immediately. He uses humor and a somewhat goofy demeanor to hide his true feelings.
βRequirements: Must be able to switch instantly from normal dialogue to singing classic hits (e.g., My Way by Frank Sinatra). Needs to play "pitiful but endearing" perfectly.
βCHLOE (Lead - Female)
βPersonality: Maxβs best friend. Sarcastic, explosive, and aggressively proud of her Canadian heritage. She is the voice of reason until she loses her patienceβwhich happens often. She hides her vulnerability behind a wall of insults and loud reactions.
βRequirements: Must be able to perform a very strong (or comedically stereotypical) Canadian accent and switch to a standard accent when singing. Requires high energy, the ability to yell convincingly, and great comedic timing.
βDR. STEVIE PONDER (Supporting - Male)
βPersonality: A "Musical Doctor" with exactly 10 minutes of medical experience. Dangerously enthusiastic, entirely incompetent, and completely oblivious to his patients' distress.
βRequirements: Needs to be wildly eccentric and capable of performing intense, dramatic, and completely out-of-place slam poetry.
βFELIX (Supporting - Male)
βPersonality: The upbeat, carefree friend who arrives late to the party and gets entirely blindsided by the epidemic. He quickly spirals from happy-go-lucky to absolute, terrified panic.
βRequirements: Needs to deliver excellent "freak-out" reactions and harmonize well with the chaos.
NEWS ANCHOR & PHILLIP (Extras - M/F & M)
Both are eccentric. More details in role posts.
βSinging: Please note that you do not need to be a professional singer! The charm of The Jukeboxitis comes from the spontaneous, sometimes awkward nature of the singing.
βEnergy: We are looking for high energy and strong character choices. Lean into the absurdity.

[Terrified, shouting] Chloe, I have serious case of Jukeboxitis!!
[Serious, but mocking] Don't act like you're a Canadian you're not even a real one.
Sing the first verse of "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.
Chloe is Max's best friend, and she's the type to get worked up easily, especially when it comes to her cultural background. Rather instinctive and impulsive, she's an undeniable source of comedy in the duo's dynamic.

[Joyful] Hi loosers! Have you heard about this weird disease?
[Embarrassed] Are you sure this is the right time for...?
Sing the first verse of "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.
Dr. Stevie Ponder is a musical doctor who sounds more like a Santa Claus who's just been hired for the holiday season than a real, competent doctor. He often has his head in the clouds, but despite his Santa Claus voice, he can switch to a surprisingly deep, normal voice when he sings.
Being able to sing is essential.
