THE HOLLOW - Character Voice Exploration

THE HOLLOW - Character Voice Exploration

Project Overview

I’m creating an original PC psychological horror game concept titled THE HOLLOW.

THE HOLLOW is a first-person, realistic psychological horror experience focused on atmosphere, mystery, survival, and emotional storytelling.

The horror is built around:

  • isolation,

  • memory,

  • grief,

  • guilt,

  • trust,

  • and the fear of losing yourself.

This is an early concept/pre-production project. At this stage, this is not an audition yet.

I am currently looking for voice actors who may be interested in the project and want to help explore possible voices, interpretations, and emotional directions for the characters before full development begins.

Character descriptions and sample dialogue are provided only as a voice exploration reference.

IMPORTANT STORY NOTE

THE HOLLOW contains an important MLM (male x male) storyline as part of the main narrative.

This is not a background detail or a simple side romance. The relationship is an important emotional part of Elias Ward's journey and connects directly to the game's themes of:

  • love,

  • memory,

  • identity,

  • loss,

  • and discovering who you were before everything changed.

The story is not focused on stereotypes or making the relationship exist only for representation. The goal is to create a realistic, emotional relationship that feels like a natural part of the characters and the world.

Actors interested in the project should be comfortable working with LGBTQ+ themes and emotionally heavy storytelling.

Again, this is not an audition yet.

This is only an early project interest check and voice exploration stage.

Latest Updates

  • THE HOLLOW - Project Update

    Hi everyone!

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who has submitted something so far!

It's only been a day since I posted this project, and honestly, I'm so incredibly grateful for all of the support it's already received. I never expected this many people to take the time to read about THE HOLLOW, submit voice samples, and show interest in helping bring this concept to life. It genuinely means a lot to me.

I've loved listening to and reading everything that's been sent in. Every single submission has been fun to go through, and I really appreciate the time, effort, and creativity everyone has put into their performances.

I wanted to give you all a quick update on where the project is currently at.

Right now, I'm working on THE HOLLOW's playable demo. The demo will introduce players to the town of Hollow, establish the game's atmosphere, mystery, and mechanics, and serve as the first playable look at the project. At the same time, I'm continuing to write the story, develop the characters, and begin building the game's environments and gameplay systems.

Once the demo is finished, I'll be opening an official casting call for the demo itself. This won't just include voice acting roles, I also hope to bring on people interested in helping with other areas of development as the project grows.

This is NOT me saying "I've heard enough" or asking people to stop submitting. Quite the opposite!

Please keep submitting your takes on the characters if you'd like to. I'd absolutely love to hear them! Every actor brings something unique to a role, and hearing different interpretations has been incredibly helpful while I'm still exploring these characters.
There isn't one "correct" way to portray them, and seeing everyone's creativity has honestly been one of my favourite parts of this process so far.

Once again, thank you all so much. To have this much support after only a single day is genuinely amazing, and I'm excited to keep sharing updates as THE HOLLOW continues to grow.

Male | Late 30s | Main Protagonist

Elias Ward is a crime scene photographer who returns to his childhood town of Hollow after receiving a disturbing voicemail from his estranged sister, Sarah.

Elias is intelligent, observant, and emotionally guarded. He has spent years documenting other people's tragedies while avoiding his own.

He begins the story as someone who relies on logic and reason, but Hollow slowly forces him to question his memories, his past, and what he believes is real.

His voice should feel natural and grounded. He is not a fearless action hero, he is an ordinary man trying to remain calm while everything around him becomes impossible.

  • Natural and realistic

  • Controlled emotion

  • Subtle fear

  • Emotional restraint

  • Gradually losing composure

Sarah Ward is the reason Elias returns to Hollow.

She is intelligent, determined, and deeply connected to her brother despite their years of separation.

Her warning voicemail sets the entire story in motion:

"Don't come looking for me... if you hear me after tonight, it isn't me."

Sarah has discovered something terrifying about Hollow and is trying to protect Elias, even while trapped herself.

Her voice should feel warm and familiar because she represents someone Elias trusts completely.

  • Warm

  • Emotional

  • Fear hidden beneath control

  • Genuine sibling connection

Male | Unknown Age | Train Conductor

The Conductor is the first person Elias encounters after returning to Hollow.

At first, he appears normal, just an employee finishing his route. However, he knows things he should not know and speaks as if he has seen Elias' return before.

He is not aggressive. His calmness is what makes him unsettling.

The Conductor should feel like someone who understands Hollow better than anyone else.

Female Child | Unknown Age | Mysterious Passenger

The Little Girl is one of Elias' first encounters with the impossible.

She appears innocent and calm, sitting alone on the train while drawing a strange picture of Hollow.

She speaks like she knows Elias, despite him having no memory of meeting her.

Her performance should not be creepy or exaggerated. The unsettling part is that she sounds completely normal.

Unknown Gender | Unknown Age | Supernatural Presence

The Unknown Voice is an entity connected to Hollow.

It does not reveal itself clearly. It speaks through recordings, phones, and familiar voices.

It does not sound like a traditional monster. The fear comes from how close it sounds to something human.

The actor should focus on imitation, curiosity, and something that feels almost right but deeply wrong.

Voice Direction:
  • Subtle

  • Unnatural

  • Almost human

  • Slow

  • Emotionally empty

Male | Late 30s | Supporting Character

Noah Mercer grew up in Hollow alongside Elias and Sarah. Kind, patient, and quietly confident, he has a calming presence that naturally puts others at ease. He isn't loud or dramatic, he's the kind of person who listens before he speaks and always seems to know the right thing to say.

As the story unfolds, Noah becomes one of the emotional pillars of THE HOLLOW. His relationship with Elias is a central part of the game's narrative and explores themes of love, memory, identity, grief, and what it truly means to know someone. Their relationship develops naturally throughout the story and is an important part of Elias' journey.

Noah carries years of pain with quiet acceptance rather than anger. Even after everything that has happened, he still hopes Elias will remember who they were to each other.

  • [EMOTIONAL / HEARTBREAKING ] "The worst thing Hollow took from me wasn't our future." "It was the version of you who knew my name before I had to tell you."
