MARVELOUS MEWDINI STUDIO

is recruiting Voice Talent for its debut series:

THE HARROWS

an original, indie animated series (and passion project!)

Each episode will be around 25 minutes long. The pilot episode wraps up pre-production this month, with episode release planned early-to-mid 2027.

Melancholy, bizarre, dystopian, comedic. The story follows the journey of a prodigy boy, a half-mad reptile, and a girl-turned-monster in a post-apocalyptic world of mechanical marvels, powerful syndicates, bloated beasts, and magic coins.

Influenced by stories like Amphibia, Mistborn, and One Piece.

THE AUDITION

We prefer voice actors to be 18 or older (mostly for legal reasons), but if you aren't, you can still audition! Just please include your age as a comment on your audition.

All roles being cast are recurring characters; most are series leads.

Recording requirements: Please submit dry audio - no AI or digital alteration. Quiet recording space required. Please have access to equipment/software of at least Blue Yeti/Audacity level.

Submissions: Please read at least 2 of the sample lines for the role. Feel free to include alternate reads of any line. We didn't include additional line context/direction - there is no wrong interpretation! Get in character, take swings at it! Your acting will help mold the character.

Also, feel free to audition for multiple parts! We'd love to find several people who can each voice several characters, including future characters.

Auditions close 9/27 (Sunday) at 11:30pm MDT. Results announced within two weeks of the deadline.

We'll reach out regarding scheduling and provide your lines, character reference, animatic, etc.

Recording can be done on your own time, no live session required (though available, if you prefer). Delivery deadline will be agreed upon after casting - likely within the next 2 months, though we won't rush you. Alternate takes, retakes, and pickup lines may be requested.

COMPENSATION

Please see individual Roles for rates; rates are based on character line count, importance, and line difficulty/length.

These are all recurring roles in the series. Payment and continuing roles would be discussed and agreed upon prior to each episode/project.

CREDIT & USAGE

The series will be released on YouTube. All cast will be credited on-screen, under whatever name or handle you prefer. You are welcome to use your recorded lines in demo reels and portfolios after the release of the related episode (the audition lines can be used immediately). If cast, you agree that we may use your recorded performance in the series and its promotional material.

    We are receiving way more auditions than we anticipated; we can barely keep up. For that reason, we don’t have the time to respond to everyone individually, but we are considering having a period after the audition where we can provide feedback to those who request it, if anyone is interested in that.

Teen boy, prodigy, guarded

Most would call him pessimistic; Harper would call himself realistic. Nonchalant and cynical, Harper thinks before he speaks, and always says exactly what he believes. He doesn't stutter nor apologize. He lands his insults dryly and subtly, so people don't immediately catch it.

He is quick to judge and slow to trust. The only crack in his carefully guarded soul is a girl named Penny, for, despite his outward demeanor, inside Harper is scared and lonely and clinging to the only person he can't bring himself to hate.

We want our characters to sound distinct and memorable - we are fairly open to any accent/voices. All characters must speak English clearly.

Teen girl, energetic, optimistic

Despite her lonely and difficult circumstances, Penny is ever the optimist, and a never-ending well of energy. She operates entirely in the moment - she is reactive rather than thoughtful. Despite her reactive nature, she is rarely rude - her heart is simply kind. She is trusting to the point of naiveté.

She speaks easily, openly, immediately, according to her current mood, and her emotions are a pendulum of extremes. She quickly bounces back from anger or sadness or fear due to a stubborn insistence on optimism. But, when genuinely hurt, she retreats entirely into a quiet shell. All this, perhaps, is protecting something desperately fragile inside her.

We want our characters to sound distinct and memorable - we are fairly open to any accent/voices. All characters must speak English clearly.

Note: this character undergoes a transformation at the beginning of the series. Her personality will remain largely similar, but the role will likely require some kind of creature-noises and/or quirks, including yelling.

Associate of Count Dookington, always composed, quietly clever

Beau is ever the man of the hour, though few realize the extent of his control over conversations and events. He is true professional to his core: he speaks with mannerisms of a valet. He always exudes respect in his voice, though often not in his words. His dry and subtle wit never offends: the hearer never even realizes the insult. In fact, they hear the opposite. Beau is completely aware he is always the smartest person in the room by far, and his ego is immense - though he never expresses this outright.

His voice is ever measured, deliberate, concise, and correct.

Beau Willoby's mannerisms were partly inspired by Jeeves (Jeeves and Wooster, the tv series). But he doesn't necessarily need to emulate that character - we are fairly open to any accent/voices. All characters must speak English clearly.

Rich Count, flamboyant, foppish

Count Dookington is a witty genius, and the city is lucky such a man holds the office of Count... at least, that is the unflappable belief this buffoon of a man seems hold. Unfiltered, unbothered, generally excitable and enthusiastic, and deaf to anything less than praise. He might be described as morbidly patronizing and tactless; a permanent trait, due to his complete incapacity for self-awareness.

He speaks in a bobbing, bouncing fashion, constantly pursuing rambling tangents. But beneath his wobbly hair and foolish grin burns a specific and secret ambition, an unbreakable and priceless obsession. When his attention rests on that ambition (as it does when he is alone) his character changes completely. He becomes grim, focused, and somber.

Count Dookington's mannerisms were partly inspired by Bertie Wooster (Jeeves and Wooster the tv series), but he doesn't necessarily need to emulate that character - we are fairly open to any accent/voices. All characters must speak English clearly.

Government official, authoritative, praising, faithful

The trusted voice of the city and its law. Giver of news, recounter of education and history, she is the mouthpiece for the city's propaganda. She speaks in slogans and comforting euphemisms. Hers is the voice of the radio, the prerecorded education centers, and, in later episodes, her own physical character.

She speaks with authority and unwavering confidence - after all, her every word is infallible Truth. When referencing the ruler of the city and/or his achievements, her professionalism lapses into breathless awe.

We want our characters to sound distinct and memorable - we are fairly open to any accent/voices. All characters must speak English clearly.

Note: This character's voice will be altered to sound tinny/buzzy, like a vinyl record; in the first episode they are primarily a radio-voice and pre-recorded propaganda. For auditions, though, do not alter your voice digitally.
