The God Complex(Animated Series Project) - Casting Call #1: "WRITERS, VOICE ACTORS, AND ARTISTS/ANIMATORS

Project Overview

The God Complex is an animated series project created by comic fans, and created for comic fans. It boasts a host of characters with inspiration from Marvel and DC comics as well as originally crafted characters. And of course existing Marvel and DC Characters, with our own unique spins on them This first Casting Call will primarily be to find voice actors, writers and artists! We're looking for writers who are able to write dialogue, characters, episodes and scenes well. As for artists we are looking for people who can draw in a sort of comicbook and manga hybrid style, with cel shading, vibrant colors, and occasional surreal visual sequences. Animators/artists should also be able to animate smoothly and cleanly, as well as draw the frames themselves cleanly.  Voice Actors must be willing to swear, say some stuff that’s pretty weird out of context, as well as be able to convey a wide range of emotions, tones, and pitches of voice. Make sure you will be able to stay dedicated to this project as well as work on it for more than a few years. The series is non-profit however if we get it off the ground and season 1 is well received, we will create a patreon and give a certain percentage of the earnings to people who have heavily contributed, while using the rest of the money to help better the series. You will also get a hefty amount of credit as a writer, animator, and/or artist. You may apply for a maximum of two roles, and only once for each role. Those roles cannot be the same type. So make sure to try your best!

Script Writers are the backbone, or more accurately the spinal cord of the writing team. They are expected to be skilled in writing action, dialogue, imagery, etc. Writers will script the episodes of The God Complex, and a writer's shoes are big shoes to fill. Keep in mind, certain episodes will already have been written by the time you are selected, however you as well as the other Writers and Editors may edit and re-write them, with permission and under supervision. Also keep in mind there is a pre-determined plot.

Don't be fooled by the word "Supporting". After all, a building without supports is bound to collapse. Anyway, script editors are essentially a second line of writers who edit the scripts. They are expected to be of the same level of skill as writers are expected to have. Mastery of Grammar and Spelling is key, and to edit something like, say, dialogue, one must know how to WRITE dialogue. Keep in mind, certain episodes will already have been written by the time you are selected, however you as well as the other Writers and Editors may edit and re-write them, with permission and under supervision. If Writers are the spinal cord, Editors are the vertebrae.

Storyboard Artists have a simple role: Draw the storyboards for each episode based on the script. The storyboards will be the primary inspiration for the keyframes of the animation. Just remember, the storyboards have to be accurate to the script, which includes dialogue, action, background, etc. The reason there is only one storyboard artist is because there are already members of the project who can assist with this role, and enough members are fit to do so that we only need one new storyboard artist. Storyboard Artists will be given a set episode time limit as well, and the Storyboards must fit with the pacing of that episode.

General Artists also have a simple role: Create art such as concept art, posters/teasers, and also the art rewards for our patreon! Patreon rewards include access to the concept art and unique comicbook-style covers made for each episode. Additionally, there will also be variant versions of these covers that will also be drawn similarly to a comicbook cover. The reason there is only one general artist is because there are already members of the project who can assist with this role, and enough members are fit to do so that we only need one new general artist.

Animators are very important to this project, considering it IS an animated series. Animators are in charge of animating every episode based on that episode's script, and animate under our jurisdiction. Don't let that discourage you though. After all, members are allowed to communicate with others to get what they want. Want to change up a sequence? Ask the storyboard artists and the writers and editors who can ask us to change something and if it's a good idea, we will. Animators are required to be able to animate smoothly and animate at a good pace that fits with the pacing of the episode's script. Animators will be given a set episode time limit as well.

Colorist #1

A Colorist, too, is very important. Their job is to take the animation, and truly bring it to life with beautiful colors. Highlights, shading, etc. A Colorist should be able to turn the animations into a vibrant color show, with popping hues and comicbook cel shading. Colorists should be able to work with a variety of colors, and while what we did just describe might sound like a Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 looking piece, it is important to at the same time be able to manipulate color to match the scene, and not always make it super intense, and being able to do all of this without making it jarring. Vibrant action scenes; warm emotional moments; dark and cool stealth sequences; and gloomy, sad moments. All of these should be in the repertoire of a good colorist.

"What in the hell's a Refiner?" is probably what you're thinking. Well, we'll tell you. A Refiner is someone who goes through the animations twice, once when it is colored, and once when it's uncolored. And you might be thinking, "Wait, aren't you guys supposed to look over the finished product?" Well, that's just it. Refiners don't look over the finished product, but rather, are the people who turn it into the finished product. Refiners should have keen eyes, and the minds of both an Animator and a Colorist, but most importantly, the mind of a viewer. Refiners, as stated in the name, refine the animations in both colored and uncolored form. Before a colorist can take action, first a Refiner must look over, and tune up an Animator's animation, and then again clean up the Colorist's work, if they can. They are also to add a few extra details and such.
