The Dragon Princess
Project Overview
PLOT
Amaia, princess of Steinna, is expected to marry Azaiah, prince of Skàland. However, she abhors him more than anything, as he is a self-centred and quick-tempered man, already having in him all the seeds to grow into a cruel tyrant. On the night before her wedding day, in the temple Amaia has to perform a ritual in, she whispers one prayer to herself, not expecting it to be heard: she wishes to escape from this marriage. That’s when a dragon appears, destroys the temple, and takes her away to trap her in a tower.
Be it in a tower or through wedlocks, Amaia is bound to be trapped: who will save her?
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Murder, toxic relationship, pyre, suicide attempt, arranged/forced marriages.
INDICATIONS
First, please take note of the fact this game is a game for NaNoRenO, a one month game jam focusing on creative visual novels. The jam doesn't allow to start creating content for the game early, so everything will be recorded through March: please make sure to be available if you audition. The timeline is as follows:
Audition: from February 1, 2025 to March 5, 2025.
Results: between March 5, 2025 and March 7, 2025.
Recording: from March 7, 2025 to March 20, 2025
Eventual retakes: From March 20, 2025 to March 27, 2025
Would you fail to deliver your lines before the due date, your work might not be included in the game. Please also note that the project isn't commercial and won't be open to donations.
Please also take note of these specificities of the audition file:
The voice actors are expected to be at least eighteen years old.
A good quality microphone, with no noticeable noise or reverb (XLR preferred but not mandatory).
The audio files must be in MP3 or OGG format.
No editing (basic cuts are authorised) and no slating.
Record 1 to 3 takes of each line in ABCABC format. If you choose to record several takes, please include them all in the same audio file.
Name your file “ActorsName_Character” (by “actor’s name”, I intend the one you use as a voice actor, not necessarily your legal name)
Finally, I may consider having two minor characters voiced: Amaia's father and her piano teacher. If you audition for Azaiah and/or Caleb and are interested in those roles, let me know in your audition blurb (also take note that you being open to voicing a minor role won't prevent you from getting the part for Caleb and/or Azaiah).

Amaia, princess of Steinna, is a kind woman with a sweet personality. Despite being rather introverted, she always has something nice to say to the people around her. She is also a piano prodigy, but she alas cannot dedicate herself to her talent: she is a princess after all.
However, her engagement with Azaiah has put her through an ordeal by fire. A particular incident has put out the flame burning within her, and she now hates this man as much as she fears him.
Amaia will learn to overcome her own fears, to break the chains she’s trapped within, and perhaps find a new meaning to her life: after all, doesn’t every girl deserve to learn how to play the piano ?

“T-this is lovely, but… I am not ready yet.” (a bit melancholic, quite nostalgic, with a sad smile on her face)
“I would rather die than go back to him, Caleb, can’t you understand!?” (desperate, yet quite passionate, crying out of anger and panic)
Azaiah is the prince of Skàland, but also a war hero, a paragon of masculinity and bravery. He is also an ambitious man who has great projects for the kingdoms he’ll govern, but also for his own life: it has to be the story in which he is the hero.
Beneath the affable façade, Azaiah is a short-tempered and egotistic man, who even has a possessive and controlling side. And when he considers something (or someone) is his, he will do everything he can to keep it: no cost is too big.

“I love her. So she belongs to me. And I won’t tolerate anyone in my way. Is it clear, Caleb?” (threatening, irritated)

Caleb is Amaia’s childhood friend who joined the military three years ago. When he comes back to the kingdom, now a captain, he finds out that not only is the woman he’s been in love with engaged, she has also been abducted by a dragon! He is determined to save her, even if he knows she won’t love him back.
Caleb is reliable, kind and, despite his military rank, a rather sweet and empathetic individual. He has been secretly in love with Amaia, but never dared to confess his feelings for her. However, now that she’s a damsel in distress, will he become her knight in shining armour?

Happho, despite being a princess-kidnapping dragon, is surprisingly friendly and nice. She seems to wish the best for Amaia, and she pretends she brought her here to offer her a place of her own. She also seems to have a past, of which Amaia doesn’t know much. How much can Happho be trusted?
