Jay is a guy who has been sheltered from the outside world 18 years of his life. He starts docile, silent, calm. But when he’s exposed to the beauty of everything he tends to hide his trauma through jokes and a new persona in ‘Scratches’ while being overly clingy.
The first line is during his sheltered era, while the next 2 are past it
