The Promise is a graphic novel trilogy that continues the Avatar: The Last Airbender storyline. Written by Gene Luen Yang with Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the trilogy was released by Dark Horse Comics in collaboration with Nickelodeon in three separate installments throughout 2012. Mainly set one year after the conclusion of the original series, The Promise trilogy details the adventures of Avatar Aang and his friends soon after the Hundred Years War.

Aang is the fun-loving, somewhat naive, and adventurous Avatar with a great sense of humor, a deep respect for life and freedom, and an open and friendly personality. Although a reluctant hero, Aang is driven by a desire for redemption for the world and restore peace once more although he does show a somewhat stubborn side to his personality when it come to defend what is right against all odds or what others say.

Katara had a warm, compassionate, and caring personality and often acted as a motherly figure to the group. She displays deep affection and is fiercely protective whenever their safety of her loved ones was threatened. Katara's inner strength is often marked by a fierce determination to aid others who need her help, even when it may inconvenience her in the moment.
It doesn’t seem like the fire nation citizens and the earth kingdom citizens share equally in that wealth.

Long Ago, The Four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the fire nation attacked. Only the avatar master of all four elements could stop them. But when the world needed him most he vanished. A Hundred Years passed and my brother Sokka and I discovered the new avatar, an airbender named Aang. Although his airbending skills were great, he had a lot to learn before he was ready to save anyone. But From the day I first met him, I believed Aang would save the world.
Sokka is intelligent, creative, and good at coming up with ideas. He prefers the ways of the warrior and the scientist, and using his strength, and wit! Although he can sometimes be rash and his pride has often led to embarrassment. Although, he started off as close minded Sokka learned to be flexible and adapt! He is also passionate fan of sarcasm and meat!
He holed himself up in Yu Dao with a bunch of his soldiers. He won’t let anyone in or out. That’s where we’re headed.
Everybody calm down! Avatar Aang can handle himself! The best thing for us to do right now is wait!

Toph is fiercely independent, sarcastic, direct, stubborn, and confrontational. She also has the same carefree and adventurous personality with an added tomboyish flair in her actions and clothing. Toph is brutally honest and is always vocal of her opinions regardless of the status of the receiver. Toph is a quick study, who is full of courage and loyalty to those whom she cares for.

Zuko started as bitter, impatient, and angry abused child but, through rage of the reaction to the world's perception of him, he displayed an iron-willed defiance and inflexible determination. He is clever while also hot-headed, often letting his temper get the best of him. However, he often avoids senseless harm to others without motive or benefit and often shows mercy, even to his enemies. He values forgiveness and overtime after his feelings of anger subsided, became patient, kind, precise, and even awkward at times.

Suki is a natural born leader, a well-respected warrior, as well as a loyal friend. She is tough and assertive to her core and never afraid to speak her mind. Suki has a brilliantly sturdy resolve and is not one to back down in the face of adversity. Her mental and tactic skills are only matched by her kindness and compassion. Despite this she somehow manages to still retain her sense of duty and remained focused on her mission. Overall, Suki is someone you'd want as an ally. While it is easy to see her ferocity in battle, it is her warrior's heart that promotes this same dedication to her family, friends, and overall diligence and attentiveness to defend what is good.

Iroh is Easygoing, open-minded, wise, comforting, generous, advising, kind, and humorous. He loves tea and taking time to live life to the fullest and was a firm believer that everyone had the power to change their own destiny. He has much sage advice and wisdom that he is open to share with anyone who needs it.

Kori Morishita is a Yu Dao citizen who will fight fiercely to defend her home. Kori has a strong sense of self and knows what she wants. She loves someone who is different from her despite what other say about it!

Mayor Morishita is the mayor of Yu Dao and somehow who cares about the citizens of his city as well as the citizens of the fire nation. Although, it may not always show Mayor Morishita is a person who tries to uphold the past while respecting the future.
Fire Lord Ozai had many faults, but he was never a coward. He was never a traitor.

Mayor Nishi is the Mayor of a Western fire Nation colony. She loves her home in the Earth Kingdom and does not want to move to the imperial city.
Those colonies were young. Their people had no roots in the Earth Kingdom.

Avatar Roku is the avatar before Aang and a close guide to the young avatar. Roku is known for his warm heartedness and wisdom. One thing he stresses to Aang is to not make the same mistakes when it comes to the avoidance of using force, even if fatal. Roku meet his end when he had to take down his own friend which could only be stopped by powerful bending (which killed not only his target but, him in the process).
You’ve done your duty. The war is over. And yet the world is still not at peace.
When you are in a position of power, you must put the needs of the world above your own. Zuko, at one time at least, understood this.
[what kind of person would I be?] A Person who keeps his promises. Zuko was in his clearest movement when he asked you for that promise. He knew what was at stake. All those lives that have been lost in the last hundred years. I could have saved them. I had so many chances. Sozin almost had his guard up when he was with me.
Sneers is an interesting character who gets caught up in the ideals of his past while balancing the expectations of his present.
