"The Arkham Rejects" A DC Comics Fan-Based Internet parody series

Project Overview

NOTICE! - This is a heavy work in progress passion project, this is NOT a professional environment, this is a solo project that has been expanded to everyone. If you wish to audition on unfinished castings you are MORE THAN WELCOME TO! This project is fully open to the public at this time and I am accepting any newcomers! Even as I am still adding roles I wish to be open with this!

I am keeping story details limited as to avoid spoilers for the series ahead, thank you for your understanding.

"THE ARKHAM REJECTS" (a work in progress title) is an internet parody series I am creating, inspired by simple YouTube parody channels such as "Beck the schizo" and the humor of "Zach Hadel", these are what have created a basis of the idea in my mind.

Although I intended to create these parodies on my own, I felt I would like to open the door of opportunity to anyone else who just wants to have fun with a small project with little pressures.

This parody will be done with PNG/sh*t post humor, posted in both long and short form across social medias. This series will appear as nothing but a goofy, improv parody of DC comics characters, but beneath that we will interject an awesome later of story telling that will keep people hooked.

The direction style will be loosely directed, with an overall end goal to a conversation and a improvisation element, I will be heavily leaning on improv and forming natural humor in topic conversation.

The main cast of characters is still being decided, but this series may not be the only project I work on as it is a rather small project and I have other ideas in mind. However for the time being I will leave you with this much!

STORY SYNOPSIS - Three low time Arkham villains are sick of being seen as nothing but jokes, and decide they're DONE trying to take over Gotham, and instead will settle for Arkham Island.

With exaggerated parody versions of the asylums madmen wrecking havoc, as well as communication to the outside world being completely neutered, these rejects will pick off more then they can chew when they are reminded just WHY they're the bottom of the food chain!

CONFIRMED CHARACTERS - This will be a short list of characters that WILL be included either in the pilot or beyond in later episodes, this may or may not include MAIN characters that will be casted.

If you have any interest in portraying a character that is on this list but NOT the current casting, then please feel free to reach out or comment and I will offer you an opportunity to audition.

Here is a list of the current characters planned with simple direction traits for their voices.

-The Joker (Hamill types preferred)

-Harley Quinn (Exaggerated Boston accent)

-Condiment King (No preference, improvise!)

-The Batman (Simple brooding, classic)

-Hugo Strange (Stoic, tough, egotistic)

-The Riddler (Annoying pencil neck nerd)

-Killer Moth (The straight man, stoic, gravely)

-Bane (Spanish accent, OR the goofy Harley Quinn voice.

Capable of doing both BIG STRONG Bane as well as a WEAK one)

-Poison Ivy (Seductress, heavily based off "Arkham Asylum" interpretation mixed with "Harley Quinn, improv encouraged)

-Scarecrow (Improvise voice, sane but evil)

More to be added and refined over time! This is a passion project, and once again I would like to heavily reiterate this project was ENTIRELY intended to be a SOLO project, but I am opening my creativity up to anyone who wishes to participate!

Please feel free to audition for any role or comment if you're interested in getting involved in the project, if all goes well there may be more work in the future but I can guarantee anyone who takes this project on will have a simple and easy experience.

I am not building a bridge, I am making a small little series of low effort comedy videos that will bring entertainment and joy to some people's lives. Thank you!

VISUAL OUTCOME - Since it is a bit vague I will leave this description here for how the project will ideally come out. I am either going to go with a simple "Png on background" type of video which anyone who knows editing knows this can be a very open domain for editing fun and parody type videos.

I am also working around the idea of doing a "Battleblock Theater" type of presentation the way they do their cutscenes. It is all experimental, but I gurantee there will be a chosen art direction to visualize the series.

  • Unexpected but welcome! - Deadline Pushed To Nov 14th

    Hi all! So I have been rather distracted this last week so I decided to go against my previous statement and will be extending the deadline to the 14th.

    Why? Well besides many distractions IRL this still remains a passion project mainly for entertainment purposes, so please do not expect a quick turn around nor some sort of top tier direction as I will be figuring things out as we move along.

    As said before I already have a method in which this project will be articulated, I just have not had the free time to mess around with it too much. This month will be more focused, starting as early as tomorrow I will begin reaching out to shortlisted or chosen voices to test some dialogue and chem.

    NOTE: Anyone who is shortlisted on a role is NOT guranteed to have that role, I will ultimately choose whichever voice I feel fits the tone the best, but please do not take personal offense if you are not casted, as there is many people auditioning as well.

    And lastly please do not hitch too much onto this project if you are aspiring to do voice over work, this project is very lowkey and has no clear future besides the plans in mind, I highly recommend auditioning on other projects and not holding your breath too much on this one, as I would hate for someone to not audition for other roles because they are more interested in this project than others.

    Thanks again for all the support, auditions, patience. I understand if the deadline being pushed abruptly in inconvenient for the last minute auditioners, however I must once again put EMPHASIS on the fact that I can and WILL cast roles as soon as I feel I have a perfect fit. If a role you want is no longer available, consider auditioning for other roles in the project or moving onto other projects.

    Once again reiterating like I always do, this is a NON profit project made BY FANS FOR FANS! If you expect to get compensation in the future, that is a possibility to be discussed based on the success of the pilot and any additional episodes made.     P.S: If you are big into improv, please record your own demo reels using a character or characters of your choice.

    Once casting has begun I will be creating discord server to manage the members easier and to record together in sessions, please be prepared for improv whether you are into it or not as it is half of the fun of this project.

    Hello again everyone! I have found my conclusive method in which I will be making the series. I wanted to share more details about the project as well as story points, if you only care to see specifics I will Highlight each section. Here is overall what I will be discussing:

    Final Casting Details

    Final Casting - I will be officially casting people before the deadline of October 31st, and testing some scenes and ideas before then as well. The purpose of the casting is in order to get together a team for the project as I wished to begin full production onto is by Halloween. I will reach out to anyone whom I shortlist or decide to cast as I wish to keep everyone within the loop, that being said I do not always have something to share so please be patient on results or if tests are needed, we are crossing bridges as I approach them.

    Speaking of Final Casting, I have ADDED THE ADDITIONAL ROLES OF:

    -The Riddler (Re-occuring)
    -Hugo Strange (Re-occuring)

    These will be the final roles posted at this time, there will be an additional "goons/henchmen" role added at a later date, and some VAs may be asked to audtion for other roles such as Batman, Robin, Other villains, etc. If need be I will post more roles, so keep an eye out for that as I will be posting those before the 20th, but do not let that keep you from auditioning for any role you wish, as I want people to try out whatever they think they can pull off.


    Defining The Series

    Defining The Series - When it comes to the exact description I tend to struggle a bit as I have an idea of what I was wanting to achieve but no real way of describing it, until now that is. What I will be doing visually is using Blender to place 2D images onto a 3D environment, from there I will be essentially using PNGs of characters to act as puppets within these environments, and allow for most of the comedy and light visuals to entertain, I think the blending of 2D and 3D will also allow for some fun comedic effects. cool effects or overall environments.

    For example, I could build an entire model of Arkham Asylum using detailed PNG screencaps from the Arkham Asylum 2009 video game if I wanted to, and use it as a backdrop. But thats for a more extreme idea.

    The Comedy Side - I think the best way to put the approach to comedy I am aiming for is to think of the Harley Quinn show blended with Smiling Friends/classic Psychopebbles humor with a slight mix of Venture Bros.

    We dont take it seriously, in fact I want you to keep in mind these characters are psychotically insane and will say outlandish or sometimes stupid things just to be edgy, I can assure that anything the characters say or do is just for humor and nothing more, I do not intend to push edge too far I just want to make it clear the type of characters we are dealing with are mostly murderers and psychopaths.

    I hope this explains the idea of where I am going with this somewhat.


    Details On The Project

    Details On The Project - This project is not to be taken too seriously, time constraints are stressful so I will not be rushing anyone nor do I expect to be rushed. None of us are being paid, we are doing this for fun yeah? So lets make sure its fun while we do this. The project is 100% fan based, non profit and aims to just create an old School YouTube type comedy parody. I will be the primary director/editor, I prefer having sound files Submitted via the .WAV format and I am a very big DC fan.

    The project will contain a loose script that will have many parts for improvisation, if you cannot handle improv this may not be the project for you, but if you are willing to try it I would be glad to give anyone a chance. At the end of the day I am one person and this project is meant to be an extension of an idea, I am happy to see how many people have taken interest so far and hope that we can get many more auditions to get roles filled before the 31st, which reminds me that I must once again encourage not to wait till closer to the deadline to audition as I will be casting roles as I find them to fit, the deadline is simply the last day the page will be accepting new auditions for unfilled roles.     Other Ways To Get involved - I am the primary video editor and director for the project, I am open to having other people involved beyond voice acting, but if you want to try unlisted roles such as Bane, The Goons, or even Batman feel free to reach out to my discord at the bottom of the page, I will add and ask you for your casting call profile to reduce spam so be ready for that if you do intend to add me.

    As I post this final lengthy update I would like to once again remind everyone that this was a simple "shitpost" type idea that I have managed to bloat into a pretty decent web series. I am very excited to see how it turns out as this project has no real worries of Copyright due to the nature in which its parodying the original property.

  • More Information For The Interested

    As I've been testing visuals I believe I have found a proper method in which I will be producing Episodes.

    Using Blender I will set up 2D environments within a 3D landscape, I'm planning on minimizing heavy lifting by using a unique visual style and focusing on humor and improv over the overall visuals.

    I will be busy with Thanksgiving over the weekend of The 11th, when I return on Monday-Tuesday I will begin reaching out to chosen cast, updating audition lines to fit the comedy and writing style as well as releasing a demo reel or two of what I'm working on to give a better idea.

    I would once again like to reiterate that I am always willing to cast someone who may not perfectly fit the role, but I will not compromise the project in favor of a full cast.

    Please continue to be patient and I have no intention of INCREASING the deadline. If you want to be apart of this project I URGE you to audition sooner than later as I will attempt to cast people as soon as a perfect fit comes along.

    Hello I just wanted to post this update for clarification.

    Until the Deadline is near I will NOT BE OFFICIALLY CASTING ANYONE

    I have my first picks but until I can do proper testing with the Voices chosen it is simply a top pick.

    Please do not reach out if you have been asked about a role, so long as you confirm your interest when asked the role is secured to you so long as you have provided a means to reach out.

    I will not tolerate strong arming, rudeness or repeated attempts at further conversation at this time. This project is a side thing for my life and I have other things to focus on beyond it.

    The deadline is and remains the 31st, I will be casting throughout the rest of the month and testing with chosen actors.

    Please have patience as no patience will quickly result in rejection of your audition and role. I expect professional courtesy and patience as you're not being paid for this project anyways.

    Thank you, and please don't feel discouraged to attempt an audition, I have simply wasted too much time with impatient people and malicious characters on past projects to allow myself to be pushed around in any form whatsoever.

  • Casting Begins Tomorrow! (oct 5th)

    Hiya everyone! Just wanted to post an update before the casting begins on the project, until everyone is fully casted I may refrain from going too far into development, but I will be playing things by ear.

    I have already decided on some of the cast from the amazing auditions that were given, others have either been shortlisted or will be contacted for other audition lines.

    I will be rejecting any and all auditions I do not feel are correct for the role or not up to the quality I am looking for, but this does not mean you cannot try again with either a different take, or a better quality microphone, mic quality is not a defining factor in your auditions but acting correctly and understanding the character you intend to play is important to me as I want these characters to feel like an exaggeration of their usual portrayals.

In this interpretation, Moth has been acting as a vigilante for criminals, almost becoming a Batman for them, protecting them from the law and helping them escape The Dark Knight himself sometimes.

Drury Walker, now stuck in Arkham and labeled as a "Sociopath driven by a need for hate", now spends most of his time reading and learning, so that when he gets out he will have more knowledge than he did going in.

Unfortunately for him, an encounter with Johnathon Crane is driving him deeper into darkness, and further isolating his empathy from his body. These feelings lead him deeper into villainous ways. Killer Moth is one of the three low time villains who decides to take over Arkham Island, with his motivations being to take something back from the law he despises.

The Riddler is more obsessed with himself than his biggest fans, and if you cant remember that then you cant handle the Riddle masters masterous schemes! But in all seriousness just make the riddler however you believe he should sound.

He will play a rather minor role overall BUT will be reoccuring, anyone willing to take on the role of the Riddler is also going to be encouraged to audtion for the "Goons" and yes I am using that word because its hilarous how its been ruined, but you also do have your henchmen and thugs of course (shoutout to the people who got that joke) 

He is obsessive, nonsensical and always has to act like the smartest guy in the room because of course he is! Or so he thinks!

Hugo Strange will be a somewhat re-occuring character. He will be within the first episode as a primary antagonist, but will be sidelined for a fair bit at times. He is very stern and stoic as usual, I compare this version to Arkham City alot so be sure to use that Hugo Strange as reference.

He is currently acting Warden of Arkham Asylum, and with the takeover naturally he will be sidelined from the madhouse, but paths always present themselves in Gotham.

Psychotically Sane and a true master planner Hugo Strange runs the asylum with the idea that our costumes are who we must become.

Scarecrow (ANTAGONIST)

Scarecrow is the master of fear, and pulls all the strings from the background. WIP lines and character, open for custom audtion lines as he will be an important character. One thing to keep in mind, he is EVIL not Insane. He is fully aware of his actions, and is simply a man who was born this way.

Crane appears as both Scarecrow as his usual Johnathon Crane self, playing both patient and doctor at times.

Pamela Isley is portrayed very similar to her "Arkhamverse" counterpart, but is mixed with the "Harley Quinn" show character.

Ivy is a minor character in the story who is responsible for Killer Moths initial decent into chaos, she plays a minor role overall but a major role in one specific chapter of the madhouse madness.

The Joker will be a somewhat reoccuring presence in the series, upon hearing that some low life villains are taking over Arkham Island, he gets jealous and immediately sets off with Harley Quinn to rain on there parade.

Tired of being seen as a joke, Condiment King is one of the three low time villains to take over Arkham Island, but when The Joker hears of the takeover, he reminds Condiment King of who made him and who can destroy him. 

King is very much unhinged, a bit of a lunatic and a traditional supervillain in the sense that he is very goofy and full of himself and quite literally cannot help but make condiment puns as a result of Joker brainwashing.

His character is much more deeper than the surface shows in this intepretation, and will likely leave the viewer wishing his actual backstory was this deep.
