The Amelia Project
Project Overview
The Amelia Project is an audio fiction podcast narrated by Inez Chow, a student at an unnamed university in Canada who has come back from a semester abroad. It has been two years since she has left high school and changed country, and it has also been two years since she has heard from Amelia Cooper - her best friend from school. She started 'The Amelia Project' after her friend went of the radar, in an attempt to reach out to her friend, and it's been a while since she updated the podcast. However, she starts it up again after meeting Murphy, a new student who looks oddly like Amelia. With his new help - as a co-producer - and the help of both new and old friends, Inez is determined to use this podcast to find Amelia, no matter what it takes. Even if it means delving into something way out of her depth.
'The Amelia Project' is of the mystery/slice of life genre, and while the story focuses mostly on Inez, Amelia, Murphy, later on the plot takes a turn into exploring a series of disappearances. Episodes should be bi-weekly, and twenty minutes to half an hour long. Details on characters are as follows...

Another school friend of Inez's. Used to also be very good friends with Amelia, and will occasionally help in the podcast. Is one of the only old friends who doesn't actually hate Amelia.
Pretty flirty, and a lot of fun to play with. It's hard to tell when she's normal, and when she's joking, and she lives for making other's uncomfortable. Training to be a doctor
"Hi, Inez. Yeah, I'm free. Is this for the podcast, or do actually care about me? (Laughs) No, I'm kidding. What's up?"
"He does look like Amelia. Hello! Have you got a secret twin sister, by any chance? He even /sounds/ like her! Are you Amelia? Nah, Amelia would never cut her hair.”
"I know they're hiding a reason for why they're mad at her. They're not like us. Granted, I should be mad. But I'm really not."
Murphy is a social psychology student that had arrived on campus in the semester that Inez was away, and they meet each other when she comes to watch one of the theatre shows he's in. He looks strikingly like Amelia, and they strike up a bond this way, eventually ending helping her host and produce the podcast.
Murphy is a little feminine in his demeanour, and very much a dorky character. He has an awkward laugh, and a deadpan sense of humour, and there's something about him that should be rather endearing. He gets flustered and embarassed very easily, and though he doesn't have as much enthusiasm as Inez, he can get very excited about things that interest him. Basically, theatre and psychology. He tends to trail off at the end of his sentences, and isn't very good at masking his jealousy or irritation in the slightest. Very secretive about his home life.
Any accent is fine as well. Mid to high tone. (And yo, if there are any trans guys here, please audition. Thanks!)
"H-Hi? I'm here! I mean, it’s, uh, me. The guy. With, y'know, the glasses. And the acting gig. Who are you?” (Awkward)
"I keep on telling Inez that she needs to slow her roll, but she's just on a rollercoaster that keeps going up. If you've ever seen a little kid try coffee for the first time, you'll know what I mean. Oh, god. I never want to see Inez have coffee."
“I hate heartfelt text messages. (Pause) What? Oh, okay. I know they’re supposed to be nice, but they come across as fake. Have you ever had friends who are just to serious online? It makes me really annoyed when they send you bullshit like “You’ll always be my friend, no matter what”, blah blah. Like you fucking mean it. (He is unusually bitter here).”
Amelia is the girl that this podcast circulates around. She was Inez's friend back in high school, and has gone completely AWOL ever since November 18th, 2014, when she sent her mum one last text message. She's still alive, but nobody knows where to find her. She'll be voiced in audio recordings that Inez made in the past.
Amelia was the kind of person that laughed a lot, and at most things. She was rather sarcastic, and there is something that should come off as very defensive and secretive about her. Inez will sometimes note that it felt like Amelia could be mad at them (her friend group) at times, and though she never yelled, she always had an anxious energy about her. Eager to make new friends.
Again, any accent. Mid to high voice.
"(Laughing) Inez, stop! Waste your voice recorder batteries on something more important than me laughing at some stupid meme."
I hate learning lines. Because it always takes people /ages/ and I'm done, in like, a second. Nobody's ever on the same page as you. It's stupid, because you want to, like, scream at them to hurry up. But you know it's useless.”
"(A voicemail) Hey, mum. You're not picking up your phone. Just wanted to let you know that I landed in London fine, and I'm going to check into my hotel soon. (This is the last time she will ever speak to her mother, and she knows this). Uh. Call me. I love you a lot. Goodnight.”
Inez is the main narrator of the podcast, and she should have a boundless energy to her. She is driven and determined, and has an idealistic air to her. Optimistic to a fault. This doesn't mean she needs a high voice, only that it needs to be upbeat. Saying this, she does miss her friend dearly, and by forcing herself to be so positive all of the time, she is setting herself up to crash and burn. Rather a hopeless romantic, and very open about things that others may consider personal. She doesn't have very much of a filter. Should be able to carry a very conversational tone. Any accent is acceptable.
Note, pronounced Ee-nez.
"Hey, guys. It's been, uh, well, it's been a while. Hasn't it? Heh. I've kind of been busy. I spent an /entire/ semester away in the Netherlands. Which was great, by the way. I didn't have wifi most of the time, and I'm going to be honest, I needed the break. But it's all okay! I'm back now!"
"I eventually gave in and asked a friend to look on the deep web for me. I'm way too much of a scaredy cat to do it myself, haha, but he was happy to - so long as I don't give his name in the podcast. And we found something! Hold on, I'm opening it up now."
Note, she is not narrating here, so there should be more acting. She’s chasing and calling after Murphy. "Hey! You! With the glasses! No, not you, the actor! Yes. What's your name?”
Murphy's friend (ends up dating him), who ends up helping with the investigation. Turns out, he'd always listened to the podcast. Engineering student.
He's a bit blunt at times, and he's got the whole 'I'm pretty awesome' vibe about him. Terribly funny, and also terribly opinionated. Always sounds like he's trying to make a point, or sometimes like he's on the verge of a joke. Good taste in music. Bad taste in poetry.
British accent is preferable. If you can speak Japanese, that's a bonus.
The denouement of this podcast is going to be the most satisfying thing ever. I know it. (Pause) Oh, like you don't use stupid big words to make yourself look smart as well.”
"Murphy, Murphy, Murphy! You never told me you had a twin sister! Or is that what you were doing in photoshop yesterday? Either way, she's hot."
"Hello everyone! My name is Kota Hasegawa, and I'm the new host of - oh come on, Inez. I just want to have some fun!”
