The Amazing Spider-Man: The Audio Drama

The Amazing Spider-Man: The Audio Drama

Project Overview

The adventures of Peter Parker, a brilliant and socially awkward teenager who gains incredible spider-like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Transformed into the masked superhero known as Spider-Man, Peter grapples with the dual challenges of adolescence and a responsibility to use his powers for the greater good.

THIS CASTING CALL INCLUDES ALL OF THE ROLES FROM MY PREVIOUS CALLS FOR THIS SERIES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN CAST! ROLES THAT HAVE BEEN CAST ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS.

A Groovy Show Productions'  “The Amazing Spider-Man” is a Spotify Audio Drama consisting of nineteen episodes based on "Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1" that uses the comics history as a stepping-off point and storytelling technique. With the first season going over the early issues of the 1960s along with Spidey's debut in Amazing Fantasy no. 15. Witness a modern retelling of these classic Spider-Man stories given to us decades ago by Marvel Comics!

Some Things and Rules:

  • Not every character in the project is on this Casting Call due to many having already been cast before this REMAKE the ORIGINAL Casting Call for Spider-Man! So the characters on this Call are those who are OPEN!

  • An XLR or USB microphone would be preferred! The same goes for high-quality audio, little to no background noise would be ideal as it may not be nice for listeners to hear!

  • PLEASE audition for as many characters as you'd like!

  • Communication is key, I primarily use Discord to communicate with the voice actors and send scripts and lines! Sometimes retakes are required, multiple takes, and tweaks are necessary so please be open to those. Make sure to also be ready to commit to however long the lines are, as this is a FLESHED-OUT and MODERNIZED adaptation of comics from the 1960s, so lines will be longer, deeper, and the like.

  • Have fun :)

ROLE RETURN STATUS:

IT WOULD BE NICE IF WE COULD HAVE YOU BACK FOR FUTURE EPISODES, EITHER USING THE SAME VOICE OR CHANGED TO SOUND DIFFERENT, JUST TO MAKE THE BACKGROUND CITY AND CHARACTERS FEEL FLESHED OUT IN A WAY! THIS WAY, WE MAY NOT HAVE TO CREATE THIS "VARIOUS CITIZENS" ROLE ON EVERY FUTURE INDIVIDUAL EPISODE CASTING CALL!!

ROLE SUMMARY:

This role is basically for background characters/voices we hear that do not really have a name in the script. These roles can range from bystanders on the street, people in the audience at the Spider-Man television performance, people in Central Park, tourists, people who Spider-Man saves. Absolutely any everyday person like you and I who lives in New York.

ROLE SUMMARY:

This role is for the various types of police officers that we hear in the series. This one is JUST for the police officers, due to the fact that hospital staff, firefighters, and other first responders have their own "VARIOUS" casting call role. This will consist of the law enforcement who Spider-Man either communicates with at times, hears on the police chatter radio in order to get information, those who show up to crime scenes after Spider-Man has already been there and done the work, and the police officers who attempt to apprehend the super-powered villains of this series.

ROLE SUMMARY:

This role is for the various types of criminals that we hear in the series. Types of criminals this can include would be the following and even others.... petty thieves, bank robbers, car-jackers, purse snatchers, muggers. Variation between these types of criminals will be given thanks to some kind of "criminal hierarchy" where some of them are leaders of a group and maybe even an organization, while others are just low-life thieves who are along for the ride, hoping to get a big score. But in any case, Spider-Man will most definitely have run-ins with these guys.

VOICE REFERENCE:

Just… hear me out on this one, okay? Eric Andre with a little more youth to his voice and slightly toned down could work pretty well for this wannabe comedian bully that is Seymour O’Reilly.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Seymour, often referred to as “Sly” by his peers, is a member of Flash Thompson’s clique, sharing the same penchant for intimidation and bullying. He often sports a letterman jacket, feeling a need to show to everyone that he is a part of the football team. His athleticism earned him a spot on the team, but it also created a longing for acceptance and recognition among his peers. "Joining forces" with Flash Thompson seemed like the path to social prominence, driving Seymour to adopt a tough exterior. While he may outwardly appear confident and self-assured, his actions suggest a desire for validation and acceptance from his peers, especially from Flash. His tone of voice would carry a mix of confidence and arrogance. The voice actor should be able to convey the voice of someone who thinks that they are “all that” and funny as hell, given that he is a school athlete and a stereotypical high school popular jock. The ideal scenario for Seymour would be to have him be a character that listeners hate to love but can equally love to hate.

Another Raimi’s “Spider-Man” alum! The late Bill Nun would be a perfect Robbie, I only wish we had more of him in those films.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Robbie's character is best marked by his unwavering commitment to journalistic principles. He navigates through the challenges of reporting on superheroes, supervillains, and the ever-changing landscape of the city which he lives in. Facing numerous trials, including the editorial clashes with J. Jonah Jameson, yet he remains a stalwart force within the journalism world. Robbie Robertson's voice is deep, resonant, and carries an air of calmness. His voice should convey wisdom and a great sense of reliability, one which mirrors his role as an experienced reporter. A measured and articulate tone would be fitting for the character, reflecting his ability to communicate complex stories with clarity and confidence. Robbie is also a fatherly figure and plays a bit of a mentor role to those who work at the Bugle, so that should be clear to understand.

VOICE REFERENCE:

Robert De Niro’s younger voice in his earlier films(your pick!) could work for both the reporter persona of Frederick Foswell and the crime boss speak of the Big Man.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Frederick Foswell began his career as a journalist for the Daily Bugle, working alongside J. Jonah Jameson. However, in pursuit of a big story, Foswell delved too deep into the criminal underworld. Instead of merely reporting on crime, he became involved in it, adopting the persona of Big Man to control the city's criminal activities. Fredrick should have a versatile voice that can convey both the authoritative tone of a journalist and the intimidating presence of a crime boss. When portraying Foswell as a reporter, the voice should be clear, confident, and articulate. As Big Man, the voice should take on a deeper, more commanding tone, reflecting his position as a crime lord and essentially a mafia boss. The ability to switch seamlessly between these two aspects of Foswell's character is crucial for capturing the complexity of his personality.

Jackson Brice, alias Montana, is a skilled marksman and hand-to-hand combatant. As a member of the Enforcers, who are a group of criminals hired by crime organizations to handle dirty work for compensation, he often serves as the team's ranged weapon specialist, using a lasso and other equipment in addition to his sharpshooting skills. Brice's voice would likely reflect his tough and gritty nature. A gravelly and slightly menacing tone could capture the essence of a seasoned mercenary who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Ox’s voice is definitely that of someone from New Jersey. He’s just a big, somewhat ignorant, deep brute from Jersey. No reference here.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Raymond Bloch, Ox, is a member of the Enforcers, a notorious criminal group known for its ruthlessness and efficiency when hired to handle dirty work. His loyalty to the group is unwavering, and he has a reputation for completing tasks with brutal efficiency. Although he lacks the finesse of some of his fellow Enforcers, Ox compensates with raw power and an unrelenting determination to succeed. Ox's voice is deep and resonant, reflecting the power and authority he commands. It carries a gravelly quality, a result of both his physicality and the harsh environments he's been exposed to throughout his life. When he speaks, there is a deliberate and commanding tone, underscoring his confidence and dominance. There is also some sort of indication that this brute doesn't necessarily have that much of a brain in his body with some of the nonsensical and immature things he says.

Despite lacking superpowers, Fancy Dan relies on his acrobatic prowess, hand-to-hand combat skills, and an assortment of high-tech gadgets to outmaneuver and outsmart his opponents.  Fancy Dan's voice should reflect his suave and sophisticated demeanor, with a hint of arrogance. I think Aaron Paul would make a good Electro in live-action, funnily enough. So let’s see how he sounds as a voice reference.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Maxwell Dillon was not a good man, even before his transformation into Electro. The man's attitude was that which was full of greed and pride, he spent much of his adult life doing... wrong, wrong things. He gained his powers while on a job as a lineman. During a freak thunderstorm, Max was struck by lightning while still in contact with the power-lines. With the electricity now coursing through his nervous system, Max became a "living electrical capacitor". You know who Electro is, so I don't need to explain that he turned to a life of crime. Electro has a harsh and scratchy Brooklyn accent that is filled with confidence, pride, and underlying rage. He is a bitter man and can easily be agitated. Despite knowing that he is far from it, Max still likes to think of himself as the smartest person in the room, as well as the funniest... though, his jokes are questionable.

Frustrated, Gargan accepted an offer from Dr. Farley Stillwell for an experimental procedure, financed by Jameson, transforming him into the Scorpion with enhanced abilities. The process, however, plunged him into madness. The Scorpion suit, designed by Stillwell, became permanently bonded, making Scorpion a rageful foe for anyone who crossed paths with him. His deep, gravelly voice, filled with malice and simmering anger, becomes distorted and mechanical in his Scorpion persona. Gargan's vocal presence, alternating between low growls and explosive rage, instills fear, establishing his dominance.

ROLE RETURN STATUS:

VOICE REFERENCE:

Just a gravelly New Yorker, nothing special about this guy’s voice, he is simply: unremarkable as I put it in the description.

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Physically unremarkable, the Burglar is nothing more than an ordinary criminal. His encounter with the Parkers begins as a common burglary but escalates tragically when he fatally shoots Uncle Ben during a robbery that could have been prevented if Peter Parker had stopped the man from fleeing a television station robbery after one of his late-show performances. This event becomes the catalyst for Peter's transformation into Spider-Man, as he learns the timeless lesson that "with great power comes great responsibility." The Burglar's voice is often depicted as rough, gravelly, and devoid of any truly distinct characteristics, mirroring his nondescript appearance. A tone that conveys the harshness of his criminal life and lack of remorse helps emphasize the impact of his actions on Peter Parker and his future.

VOICE REFERENCE:

Really any male and deep-voiced wrestler could work for Hogan, I do not mind!

CHARACTER/VOICE DESCRIPTIONS:

Hogan is a professional wrestler who gains notoriety for challenging and boasting about defeating anyone in the ring. Peter Parker, still experimenting with his superpowers, takes on the challenge of facing Crusher Hogan in a wrestling match. Donning a homemade costume, Parker challenges the wrestler as the 'Masked Marvel' and defeats Hogan in a spectacular display of agility and strength. The victory propels Peter's newly birthed "Spider-Man" persona into the public eye, leading to his career as a performance act and soon-to-be superhero. This, however, sends Hogan's wrestling career on a downward spiral. Crusher's voice has a deep and booming quality, fitting for a professional wrestler. His speech is marked by bravado, capturing the theatrical nature of a confident wrestling persona. The voice should convey a mix of arrogance and showmanship that reflects Hogan's larger-than-life personality.
