The Amazing Animated Circus is an alternate universe to the popular animated series "The Amazing Digital Circus", who's story will be told mainly through photographs and audio recorded by the characters, in the style of an audio drama with occasional visuals.
The exception being the first episode, which will be an animatic, and possible future animatics depicting the in-universe cartoon of the same name.
The series will heavily rely on voice acting to tell it's story.
StorySet just after the second world war in a world where C&A are an animation company working with the US government to create living cartoons. Their pursuits have lead to them becoming widely successful, their most popular venture being "The Amazing Animated Circus". But at what cost?
The characters' personalities will differ in "real life" compared to when they are acting in the show. In each of the characters' descriptions, there will be an "On-Screen Persona" (how they act in the cartoon) and an "Off-Screen Persona" (how they act in reality). This is in the hope that the added context of the person behind the character will add more depth to your performance.

Keep this in mind when picking a role:This is my first time working with voice actors, and making a project like this in general, so there may be mistakes along the way.
If you're applying for a role with a transatlantic accent, I encourage you to practice one at least a little before submitting your audition.
Toon roles will appear in multiple episodes.
Some human characters may only appear in 1 or two episodes.
Some roles will require you to be loud(screaming, shouting, swearing etc).
Take the "points of reference" with a grain of salt. They're there to give you ideas, more than anything.
I am in BST. Our timezones may not match up, so if you have an inquiry, please wait at least 48 hours for me to respond.
The story isn't fully planned out. The sole purpose of this project is to have fun!
Please provide your Discord account (It'll be easier to organise multiple people in one Discord server)
Send at least 3 takes for each line in an ABC format (All three lines in one voice, All three lines in another, etc.)
Minimal background noise/echo/reverb. Your microphone doesn't have to be the absolute best quality as most audio will be edited to sound like it came from an old recording device.
It's been a lot of fun to hear eveyone's unique interpretation of these characters. Good luck in your future endeavours, and to the people picked, I look forward to working with you.
I'll be alternating between working on episode one's animatic and writing the other episodes. Right now, it's looking like the predicted number will change as the story becomes more fleshed out, as well as each character's presence in the story. I'll keep the "major" and "minor" labels for now, but one-off characters may also have one or two extra appearances by the time the whole story is finalised.
Keep up the awesome auditions! I'd really love to see more auditions for the human characters and Kinger.
There is now a concrete number of episodes, and a better idea of how present each character will be in the series. Their will be 20 in total, and Seymour will be appearing in more than half of them. Toons will have their own episodes dedicated to them.
Voice: Adult male, Loud, Grandiose, Fast-talking
Accent: Transatlantic
Points of Refrence:
On Camera: Caine's main motivation is money and stardom. He will gladly put his performers in harms way in pursuit of it. He is unforgiving when they make mistakes, and often punishes them with physical slapstick, especially his main performer, Pomni.
Off Camera: Caine loves his profession as an actor and his role as leader of the toons. Being the first ever living toon, he inherited his designer's passion for art and it's creation process. As a result of his loyalty to his creator, he is more lenient toward humans, and in turn, they favour him the most for his obedience, and enthusiasm towards his job.
You may call me Caine, my dear. Leader of the most magnificent, most groundbreaking, most showstopping, most heart-dropping circus this side of Hollywood!
We at the Amazing Animated Circus are endlessly grateful for your support! We'll do our best to provide you with only the best quality we can achieve!
(scolding) How did you get your hands on this contraband?! You stole it from set, didn't you?
Voice: Adult female, Any
Accent: Any
On Camera: Cowardice is her defining trait. When not taking orders from Caine, she will do anything if it's in the interest of her own self-preservation. From the show's perspective, this selfish behaviour bred from her cowardly attitude makes her inevitable slapstick suffering seem deserved.
Off Camera: While still a nervous wreck, she doesn't let her fears control her, especially when it comes to possibly harming others. She is also quite observant, and a good listener. She is by far the least trusting of humans, even ones that the others are amicable with.
(Stuttering) I'm P, pom, pom... sorry...
I don't see any c, c, c, clown around here!
(Feigning innocence) Such a gentleman!
Voice: Adult female, Warm, Breathy, Soft
Accent: Southern American (Country)
Points of reference:
On Camera: Her kind persona is a mask hiding her more stubborn and jealous personality underneath. She will often be jealous of any woman she perceives as a romantic rival for Jax, and even when she has him to herself, she is demanding and possessive.
Off Camera: Her kindness is real, but also partly a coping mechanism. She does her best to please everyone at the expense of herself. Years of this attitude has lead to her finding ways to avoid confronting her own difficult emotions, such as alcohol.
She is weary of most humans, but has a soft spot for human children, as she believes they aren't as tainted by their society's standards.
Ragatha the ragdolly, it's a pleasure.
Well, aren't you just darlin'!
Can't even stay mad at the worst ones, bless their little hearts.
Voice: Adult male, Sarcastic, Smooth
Accent: New York English
Points of reference:
On Camera: Mischeivous as he is clever. He always seems to have the upper-hand on his assailant, whether it be an angry neighbour or an overzealous suitor. He is very much a ladies' man.
Off Camera: He resembles his screen counterpart almost to a T, Always quick with a retort or a whitty comment. Most of his mischief is reserved for the human staff; Like many of the other toons, he holds resentment toward them for keeping the toons captive, and even creating them in the first place.
I'm Jax. Short for Jax, long for Jax, friends call me Jax.
No, no, it's a fine livin'! Just nothing beats hittin' the hay after a long day, you dig?.
Just last week we were rehearsin' a scene, right? She tripped on a wire, goes topplin' over herself, then she slips again!
Voice: Adult female, High-pitched, theatrical,
Accent: Transatlantic
Points of reference:
On Camera: A high society type, made rich by her career in theatre. She is quite embarrassed by her twin sibling's bouts of hysteria, and is normally the one to instigate fights between the two.
Off Camera: Unlike her screen counterpart, she loves her sister more than anyone. Although on the face, she seems to be the more put together of the two twins, her confidence is simply a front. She avoids confrontation with others at all costs.
(Playful) Oh, of course you would say that!
Honestly, Tangle, get a hold of yourself!
Goodness, how sweet!
Voice: Adult female, Sad, Whiny (Voice is deeper than Gangle's)
Accent: Any
On Camera: Considered an accessory to her more famous and well-liked sister. She's no stranger to being mocked for her overwhelming emotions, most of all by her own kin.
Off Camera: Despite how it seems at first glance, Tangle isn't easily pushed around. In fact she's often the one standing up for her sister. The main thing holding her back is her bouts of severe depression.
Aw, gee...
Oh, Gangle, please don't tell anyone.
Today is... a really bad one.
Voice: Adult male, Monotone
Accent: Any
On Camera: Often-times the victim of Jax's pranks or another character's stupidity, Zooble is just an average salary man, depsite their appearance. They're the straightman to the other's usual wackiness.
Off Camera: When it comes to their job, Zooble does the bare minimum possible. They're disillusioned with life in general.
(Sarcastic) Who'd have guessed.
(Exasperated) I need a cuppa mud(coffee)...
Pass me a fag (cigarette), would ya?
Voice: Adult male, Dissociated, Distant, Soft <-- Please keep these descriptors in mind for this character especially. He sounds nothing like his original counterpart.
Accent: Transatlantic
On Camera: King Kinger the Kingliest the III is far from an efficient ruler. Having gone, mad, many of his royal duties have fallen on his staff while he spends his time on frivolous entertainment.
Off Camera: Years of working on the show has eaten away at his sanity. So much so, that he's been made to undergo "psychiatric treatment" on a regular basis.
Hello, Little Jester.
...Hm? What time is it?
(speaking to someone who isn't there) That's what I was just telling them, dear. Of course, I know that- Yes, Ragatha?
Voice: Adult Male (Senior), Elderly, Gravelly
Accent: Transatlantic
The creative brains behind most of the toon's designs. Despite being of retirement age, his love for the craft has kept him working all these years.
I'm Seymour P. Morgan, and I'm the lead character designer for "The Amazing Animated Circus"
I couldn't think of any better occupation. I've loved to illustrate since I was a boy, so to see my art literally come to life, well, I'd say it'd be the dream of any artist.
I know I only have myself to blame. For creating them, for subjecting them to such cruelty.
Voice: Adult Female, Any
Accent: Transatlantic (on camera), Any (off camera)
Journalist for ACD News. When she expressed her interest in covering more "impactful" journalism, her hire-ups sent her to interview cartoons. Great.
(on camera) Do you mind introducing yourself?
(off camera, hushed) This... facility. The toons, the staff, they're all... off. Everything seems too pleasant, too... sanitised
(on camera) Alright. Are we back on? Well, that was a scare and a half wasn't it?
Voice:Adult Male, Gruff, Deep
Accent: Any
The Director of the show, former spy for the American military. He certainly didn't get hired for his love of art.
Hello there, my name's Randall Sullivan and I am the head director for C and A's hit show, "The Amazing Animated Circus"
It can be quite challenging at times. Toons are, by their nature, unpredictable. But of course, it's completely overshadowed by the joy you get from seeing your creations on screen.
Listen, toon. Just because you're Seymour's favourite, doesn't mean you have any say in human affairs
Voice: Adult Male, Any
Accent: Transatlantic
Points of reference:
Provides voice-over at the beginning and end of the first episode.
Animation. A unique and blossoming artform that has captured the attention of millions worldwide with it's uproarious humor, touching tragedy and wholesome warmth. It has gained the love and adoration of adults and children alike.
At the centre of it all, the true core of an animation, is it's characters. They really bring their worlds and stories to life. But what if these characters were very truely alive?
That is the question that was asked by Founder and CEO of the famous animation studio, Caine and Able.
Voice: Adult Male, Any
Accent: Any
(Sarcastic, playful) Well, it's a government facility, Maddy. They're sure to have plenty of cleaners around.
(Dismissive) Look. What could possibly be going on at a cartoon studio that's so sketchy, huh?
(Indifferent) Madeliene. I think you should just face the facts. You're stuck covering a topic you have no interest in, and you're making a whole hullabaloo outta nothing just to get a good scoop.
