Tales of Symphonia Fandub-Episode 2
Project Overview
This is a fandub for one of my favorite games, Tales of Symphonia. Tales of Symphonia, for those of you who do not know, is an action RPG in the Tales series and is often regarded as the best one. This is my first fandub project I have ever directed, but I have a lot of real world acting directing experience so don't worry about a lack of direction or communication.
Here is a brief description about the game itself, straight from the back of the box:
In a dying world, legend has it that a Chosen One will one day rise from amongst the people and the land will be reborn. The line between good and evil blurs in this epic adventure where the fate of two interlocked worlds hangs in the balance.
The game is a very long project and we ask that those who are cast remain committed to their roles. If the actors have to leave the project for one reason or another, that's fine. No hard feelings. We just require some notice so that we can recast them. We also ask that the actors who audition have a relatively high quality mic and keep background noise to a minimum.
For this audition specifically, we will be auditioning for all of the roles that appear in the first episode. We will release additional auditions on an episode by episode basis, as it is a long project and we cannot realistically cast every character at once.
This episode will cover from the Temple of Martel to Lloyd and Genis leaving Iselia.
The original game IS voiced but we don't ask that you do a perfect impression of the original voice actor, but rather we ask that you capture the spirit of the character. Example scenes will be provided for each major role.
Noishe is a mysterious and mythical creature that accompanies Lloyd almost everywhere he goes. Lloyd insists that he's a dog, but I've never seen a dog like that, have you? He is also, an enormous coward and will run away from monsters even if they are half his size.
Since Noishe is an animal I ask that you do your best Dee Bradley Baker and just go for it. Nothing is to weird, since this is a weird animal. I would like to use an actor for this so that we can show a greater range of emotion. I don't have to have to use animal sound effects.

Dirk is Lloyd's adopted father. He is a dwarf and a smith and grizzled old bastard. The type of father who's just as likely to give you wise life advice as he is to punch you in the face for talking back. Dirk loves his son more than anything in the world and has done his best to instill in Lloyd the honor and code of the Dwarves.
If this were a live production I would cast Brian Blessed.
Side note, in the original game Dirk speaks with an Irish accent. Bonus points if you can do a good Irish accent, but it is not necessary for the role.
Dwarven Vow #11: Lying is the first step to the path of thievery! Tell me the truth. Why do you need a Key Crest?
If I had told you, you’d have run out and tried to take revenge on the Desians. The Tower of Salvation appeared today. Just leave the rest to Colette.
Lloyd! Have you been listening at all?!
Forcystus is one of the Five Desian Grand Cardinals. This means he is one of the worst of the worst. Forcystus is firm in his belief in the superiority of Half-Elves above humans, viewing them as little more than insects that he is forced to tolerate due to instructions from his superiors. He attacks the village of Iselia due to a perceived slight. It is obvious that he's been waiting for half of an opportunity to wipe the village off the map. He appears to have a particular interest in hunting down Lloyd and the Exsphere he possesses.
If this were a live action production I would cast Jason Isaacs.
How did a mere human make that kind of jump?
Listen up, inferior beings! I am Forcystus, one of the Five Desian Grand Cardinals. I am a superior half-elf who rules over the farm where we cultivate you pathetic humans.
I have no need to explain myself to the likes of you.
The Mayor is an older man who does what he believes is best for the people of his village. Unfortunately, this often takes the form of harsh thinking or strict punishment. Such as when he says that the people who suffer at the nearby human ranch are a small price to pay to keep the villagers safe. Or when he banishes Lloyd because he blames the young man for the attack on the village.
The voice I'm looking for is a gruff more severe older man. Nick Offerman is who I would cast if this were live action.
Then, we shall entrust the protection of the Chosen to Kratos and Raine.
By the rights vested in me as mayor, I hereby announce the banishment of Lloyd and Genis from the village of Iselia. Get out!
Marble is an elderly woman who is a slave kept at the nearby Iselia Human Ranch. Over the years, she has developed a friendship with Genis who has visited her and kept her company even though he could get into a lot of trouble for doing so. She is very much a grandmotherly type and always thinks of the well being of others before herself.
Which is what makes it so much more tragic when she is turned into a vicious monster and forced to fight Lloyd and Genis against her will.
While Marble is only in this one episode, her sacrifice is felt throughout the whole series and is a main motivating factor for Genis moving forward.
I saw the Tower of Salvation. Now the Chosen’s journey of regeneration can finally begin. I hope it is successful this time.
Oh, no! The Desians! Run away, you two! Hurry!
...Genis...you were like a grandson to me. Thank you. Goodbye…
This is for any unnamed male characters such as villagers, guards, etc. I will be casting three people as my male extras.
Actors who are cast as extras might also be cast as other named characters.
These actors will be used repeatedly and more than likely used in almost every episode.
Oh, that reminds me, Lloyd. The Mayor wanted me to ask you a question.
Thank you, you saved me. I couldn’t protect this place myself.
What are you saying? Do you realize how many people died here because of him?!
This is for any unnamed female characters such as villagers, guards, etc. I will be casting three people as my female extras.
Actors who are cast as extras might also be cast as other named characters.
These actors will be used repeatedly and more than likely used in almost every episode.
Oh, that reminds me, Lloyd. The Mayor wanted me to ask you a question.
The people at the ranch are just going to rot there, anyway.
Mayor, surely you don’t have to be so strict on a child…
