PAID PROJECT: SWEET BEGINNINGS
Project Overview
We are Matti Bee Studios, a comic dubbing YouTube channel with over 70K subscribers!
You may know us for our dubs of Yuri!!! On Ice comics, most notably the MafiaAU and Pair Skating, as well as various other comics of series such as
Ace Attorney, My Hero Academia, and Pokemon Sun/Moon.
This casting call is for two characters from
Crimson Chains’ Sweet Beginnings series, an episodic gay romance comic where one partner is named after a sweet treat, and the other is named after an alcoholic drink that pairs well with it.
Aside from recording lines, voice actors playing main-cast characters will be directed in-call with other voice actors, as well as be invited to participate in future panels & meetups hosted by MBS or Crimson Chains.
Voice actors will also be added to the channel’s casting pool for future projects; many will be considered pro bono unless otherwise specified.
Only guaranteed payment will come from Sweet Beginnings dubs, whose rates are $0.21 USD per word.

Merlot is a playful, passionate, and very caring young man who always has an ear for gossip. He works at the local bar, run by his cousin Chardonnay, who he likes to pester from time to time.
As of episode 1, he has a boyfriend named Dark Chocolate- a more level-headed and composed man compared to Merlot, but the two are known to cause a bit of havoc together if the opportunity presents itself. Before meeting him, Merlot often slept around, desperate for affection, but was often told he’s too clingy when he wanted a relationship.
Merlot has a quick cameo in the upcoming episode, and will be making future appearances in various shorts, seeing how he’s quite popular among fans.
This character was previously played by someone else and this is an original series, so Merlot’s new voice would preferably sound similar to his old one.
Compared to more mainstream voice actors, his voice is close to that of Eric Vale, specifically roles like Sanji (One Piece), America (Hetalia), and Nishiki Nishio (Tokyo Ghoul).

“Ahaha! Oo, big, bad Chardonnay! Trying to kiss a willing adult! Have you messaged him since then?”

“CALL?? Just send a text like a normal person!”
“No! It’s just… It seems hard to believe. The more you get to know me, the more you’ll realize… There’s really nothing interesting about me. I know I’m a pain to deal with as well. Aside from my body, what else is there to offer?”

Cosmo is a kind, open, and cheerful guy who always tries his very best to make sure everyone feels welcome and cared for. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and although his sweetness is often appreciated and used as a means to get customers coming back to the bar he works at, it’s often misread as flirting, leading to some uncomfortable misunderstandings.
He and his future partner Cranberry Lemon will be the main characters of the upcoming 4th episode of Sweet Beginnings.
He gives the impression of having a high, sing-songy voice, but deeper voices that can match his enthusiasm are also welcome!

“Sir, I was just telling her I liked her perfume. I wasn’t flirting.”

“No, I-I really wasn’t flirting with you either. I was only chatting.”
“Sorry, I know I should have contacted you. But I needed to think… After that day… About what I wanted to say.”
