Summer City
Project Overview
Summer City is an indie action-comedy based on where I grew up: Santa Cruz. The mayor built a massive dome around a small beach town so the weather would be perfect all the time. 14-year-old Bianca strives to be the youngest department manager at Summer City's world-famous Beachside Amusement Park. With the help of her friends Javier and Fernando, she will attempt to provide excellent customer service while battling nautical supernatural creatures, locals who have been mutated by the sun's radiation, and worst of all, tourists.
The project will consist of around 12, 11-minute episodes with a deep plot underscoring an episodic, monster-of-the-week format. Tonally, Summer City combines the oceanic setting and music of Spongebob with the humor and mystery of Gravity Falls to make something that feels nostalgic for the 2012s era of Cartoon Network.

Ever the optimist who wants to be the youngest manager in the amusement park's history! The downside to her constant determination is she puts her whole identity onto it, taking it personally when she doesn't succeed. Think Spongebob or David from Camp Camp.

(Monologuing) The worst thing that could happen to you on vacation is rain. That's why, many years ago, the mayor of Summer City installed a dome to keep it sunny all the time. The great weather brings in a lot of tourism, and Mr. Moneybags Senior built the perfect establishment to capitalize off of that: THE SUMMER CITY AMUSEMENT PARK! Today, Javi, marks the first day of a lifetime of underappreciated labor.
I'm sorry I got you guys in trouble. I'm not cut out to be a manager.
(Coping) Yeah, it's only another 2 hours until I'm out in the field... (Shakes it off) All great department managers had to do this training once. How bad could it be?
14. Male, but can be performed by any gender identity. Ideally a Mexican voice actor. Bianca's long-time anxious best friend. He's the Piglet to her Pooh. While Bianca can get too focused on her work, Javier can get too in his head. Much like any anxious best friend, though, he can pull himself out of it if Bianca needs him.

(Comforting Bianca) You did well today! I've never seen anyone hold a mop with their mouth before! You shouldn't let some silly card with a star on it determine your self worth.
FERNANDO: Late 20s, early 30s. Male, but can be performed by any gender identity. Ideally a Mexican voice actor. Fernando is the park's beloved seagull mascot! He's the Shaggy of the group in the sense that he's kind of an idiot and definitely on some legal substances, but he means well. All he cares about is Bianca and Javier, and surfing. He loves to shred the gnar!

Nah, I was gonna go dumpster diving outside of the Shrimp Shack, but I'm honestly feeling kind of down on myself all of a sudden. I think I'm just gonna clock out for the day.
Late 30s. Ideally masculine voice. The eccentric money-loving owner of the Amusement Park! Mr. Moneybags is a lot like Grunkle Stan or Mr. Krabs. It's unclear if he's aware of the supernatural creatures at the park, but he's definitely the reason they're there.

I don't care if a fish grows legs and starts terrorizing the park, do not, under any circumstances, go into that basement.
18+. This role can be played by any gender identity, and has no associated gender. Appointed to be the great protector of their school of fish from the evil fishermen of the deep blue, until they found themselves caught in the very nets they swore to defend against! They were dead and frozen, to be cooked into a greasy heap of fish and chips, but Bianca left them in less-than-food-safe conditions, mutating them into a massive fish and chips samurai. Now, as the main antagonist of the first episode, they wish to exact revenge onto Bianca.
