Stronghold 2: REMASTERED

Stronghold 2: REMASTERED

Project Overview

Stronghold 2 Gameplay Overview:

In the game, the player takes on the role of a lord who rules over a medieval castle. With his available resources, the player places buildings or features, including many different kinds of food production, industry, civil, or military buildings and defences. Available peasants automatically choose jobs whenever a building requires one, so player micromanagement is minimal, he mostly needs to set up the various buildings in an efficient way while providing safety for his peasants. Military units are directly controlled individually or in groups, sometimes quite large with sieges or battles involving many hundreds on each side. One new addition to the original stronghold is the inclusion of estates, that a player can "buy" with his accumulated honor (gained by popularity, holding feasts, dances, jousting, etc.). Estates are semi-independent villages (without castle fortifications) that produce their own goods that the owner can send through carts to his castle or his allies. The inclusion of fully 3D-rendered graphics allowed Stronghold 2 to include tower interiors as battlegrounds for units, and the ability to go observe castle inhabitants very closely.

The game features two different campaigns in a different universe from Stronghold, as well as a select few others to provide gameplay diversity.

The Path of Peace is an economy-focused campaign that tests strategy rather than fighting skills. It also provides economic missions and a Castle Builder sandbox mode.

The Path of War is the main and backbone mode of the game. It features the Kingmaker single-player skirmish mode, fighting missions and the main story campaign, as well as a siege conquest to test a player's fighting skills.

What's the project about:

Stronghold 2: Remastered, is a mod, which features brand new voice over, sound effects & changes to graphics. I've already remastered Stronghold Crusader & 2001 Stronghold,  which were lots of fun to do, so naturally i decided to remaster stronghold 2 from 2005 the same way. (For curious people, you can find Stronghold Crusader: Remastered & 2001 Stronghold : Remastered in my "Previously Completed Works" tab ).

Things to keep in mind when auditioning for this project:

  • Although it's a fan project, i'm looking for  decent quality audio. So make sure to send your auditions with as little background noise as possible.

  • Make sure to look at the character descriptions before auditioning, so you have a pretty good idea what the characters are about.

  • Each character has a 1-2 week deadline, depending on the roles importance. This will be explained further in private when cast for a role.

  • Having Discord is highly recommended for easy contact between the voice actor and director, but not necessary if the voice actor is active on CCC.

  • Please don't try to imitate the original VO for the characters.  Just make sure that your voice fits in with the characters personality written.

  • Most of the cast have specific accents, so pay special attention to the accents written.

 Happy auditioning! :)

She is an old, yet strong and sturdy woman. She wears a golden jeweled crown and metal armor (odd, since she is so old but still wears armor). She wields an iron sword. When she was younger noble men and onlookers praise Eleanor's beauty. Even in an era when ladies of the nobility were excessively praised, their praise of her was undoubtedly sincere. When she was young, she was described as perpulchra – more than beautiful. Now, an old lady, still retains the beauty and finesse of any Queen.

She speaks in a royal highly manner, fitting a Queen.

  • My loyal soldiers will this very day lay siege to our common foe!

I have today signed a royal warrant for your death! It will soon be acted upon.

I will not tolerate your common presence a minute more! Prepare for battle!

The Boat Warrior is armed with a Labrys, which doubles as an oar, and has a Coracle on his back that he uses to cross water.

The boat warriors are not too fast and not too slow, (movement-speed wise) lack of armor and their weak attack makes them only useful in ambushes from the sea.

As the lines may suggest, the boat warriors aren't too "smart", and rather that they are slow and dumb.

  • Yes, liege?

    New orders?

    To battle?

I'm being... all I can be...

    We're confused... I'm confused...

  • Kill them!?

Sir William is one of the main protagonists of Stronghold 2. He is fiercely loyal to his King and he has sworn to defend him at any costs.

Sir William is a great lord with many estates and high rank, being the Royal Champion (this title is taken away by the King, who gives it to Steele later for his achievements). He serves The King and always fights on his side. William spends most of his time with searching The King Of England.

He is a typical lord of the age with longish hair and a beard. He has a fair appearance to him and can easily be described as handsome. He wears a large griffin on the chest of his metal armor. He also wears a maroon colored cape, sometimes featuring a fleur-de-lis emblem.

  • Now Master Steele, we travel inland up the river to a long forgotten castle.  Some monks have need of your aid.

  • Matthew! The horses!

  • Shortly you will be meeting your first employee, Tom Simpkins the scribe.  May he serve you well.  Now I must bid you farewell Matthew.   I ride on today to find support for our cause.

Lord Barclay

Role assigned to: MisterNKB

Lord Barclay is the main antagonist of Stronghold 2. He appears a lot in the Path of War. His voice is always almost emotionless and serious in tone.

The first time he is seen is when Matthew Steele breaks Sir William out of his castle and he sees them sailing away to safety. He is barely able to recognize the intruders, so he consults with The Hawk, who tells him to hire Olaf Grimtooth to try and finish Matthew and Sir William off. After a while, he gets angry with Sir Edwin for letting him seize too much land, resulting in him taking his army and attempting to siege Steele along with The Hawk and Lady Seren. Seren fools the two by making them think that she can arrange a ceasefire and betrays them in the middle of the battle. Although the attack is deflected, he meets Steele at the crossroads and tries to convince him to join him, with the promise of a great alliance ruling the country.

  • Someone infiltrated my castle.  I thought you had better know.

There were two of them.  The youngest one I did not recognise, but the other...

I have had them tracked down. I thought you could deal with them.

  • The people need rulers like me, knight! Leaders, who can make the painful decisions, that are needed!

  • It is a shame you're not on my side. Together, we would have made this country great again.

You are out of time, out of allies and at my mercy. Your death approaches.

Pascal Deveraux "The Hawk"

Role assigned to: MisterNKB

Pascal Deveraux, known to many as 'The Hawk' is the evil brother of Sir William and used this likeness to try and poison The King and frame Sir William for it. He works for Lord Barclay.

He is very conniving and sly, and is not a person to be messed with. He can get quite scary if you are to threaten him or his lands.

Pascal looks a lot like Sir William, which isn't really surprising as Pascal and William are twin brothers. The Hawk often wears a black hood over his head so that only his face can be seen, which gives him a window of opportunity to poison The King during one of his Feast and frame Sir William.

Like all other characters, Pascal wears a cloak, in his case turquoise/teal in color.

The Hawk is a shrewd character. He seems to still have some affection for his brother, trying to persuade him to Lord Barclay's side rather than kill him straight away. When it becomes obvious that Sir William won't budge, he seems ready to kill anyone, including his brother, to get power.

Pascal also seems has a tendency to be cruel to those who defy him. In the campaign he says this (phonetic spelling because of Pascal's French accent):

'So my bruzzer still leeves, but not for long!' - Pascal upon learning of Sir William infiltrating Lord Barclay's castle.

  • So, my brother still lives..

Well I could, but why not give our friend Olaf another big bag of gold.

I do hope you intend giving that estate back. Wouldn't want you turning up dead in a cesspit or anything, would we?

Hahaha, bien! Another estate to add to my collection!

  • Not the best move I have seen you take knight, but interesting....  Watch your back.

Come now, do not be angry.  You just lack leadership quality, that's all.

Role assigned to: Lawrence Trotti

Angus McLoud is a character appearing in Stronghold 2. He is a leader of a Scottish clan named after himself and works for Lord Barclay, who presumably pays good money for him.

Angus, rather like the Hammer, is bald and does not bear a helmet. He has his face painted in the design of a Scottish saltire.

In terms of his personality, while the Bull is a brute, he is also selfless and does things for the clan and for his allies rather than just for himself. He acknowledges his soldiers' hard work when they manage to conquer estates. He enjoys taunting his enemies, while also mocking his allies if they don't join in with a siege or if he manages to kill an enemy before them.

  • Aye, what do you think you are doing? Get your thievin' hands off my lands.

You cannot just walk in here and steal my lands, boy. There'll be hell to pay!

Another dies and the clan McLoud lives on!

Peasants are the people who gather around the campfire, eat food, and work. They form the backbone of the whole economy, so it is very important to keep the hovels they live in as much protected as possible.

Female peasants don't have any specific requirements for personality. And are open to your  interpretation!

  • I'm afraid to go out in broad daylight, let alone at night.  The castle is swarming with unsightly criminals!

Our husbands work hard to put food in that granary and you just let thieves walk off with it.

Your dealing with crime very well my liege.  Show them the stick, but don't use it, that's what I say.

I'am thinking about leaving this castle I'm sorry to say.  I'm not impressed with your castle management skills.

Sir Grey, as an old man, often spends time asleep, as proven in the path of peace. In the path of war, he is clearly shown as a man who does not take risks, pulling his men out of Edwin's old territory when Barclay is on the way.

He is also shown to have concern for his King, as he asks Lady Seren where he has gone. He is also shown to know when he is beaten, as shown when you take his place defending Sir William from The Hawk and his Underlings.

  • What in blazes is all that noise?  Some of us are trying to sleep.

  • I cannot thank you enough.  That attack caught me completely by surprise.  I pledge to be more vigilant in future.

  • I am sorry Matthew.  This field has seen too much blood.

[sleeping that waking up] W-What was that you say? The king needs weapons then, by Jove, the king shall have weapons. Begin production immediately.

The King of England

Role assigned to: CalVO

The King of England is a character in Stronghold 2 and the main reason to fight in the 'Lost King' campaign for. He is believed to have a wife. Who? The Queen of course!

He is a careful and rather passive man, who rather thinks through every single step than just act foolhardily.

In the campaign, the King is portrayed as a ruler who prefers to leave fighting to his subordinates such as Matthew Steele, Sir William and Sir Grey and concentrate on economic and domestic matters. In kingmaker, the King fits this character and mostly defends, rarely attacking apart from sending occasional raids with a few pikemen and a catapult, mostly just to capture estates. As a result, he is often accused of being a coward. However he is also a benevolent ruler who cares much for the welfare of his people.

  • You have been found guilty of the crime of treason and your time of judgement is at hand!

  • Let the games commence!

  • Raise your glasses with me in a toast, to a new beginning!

Lady Seren

Role assigned to: MavisBird

Lady Seren is a character in Stronghold 2 and the wife (presumably) of Sir William.

Lady Seren is a typical medieval lady. She wears a cloth of some description over her head which is fastened with a headband. She can be described as quite charming and attractive.

She wears typical metal armor with a griffin, presumably a symbol of her native England, emblazoned on her chest plate. She wears a pink cape and wields a sword.

Lady Seren is quite a calm and gentle soul, but is not afraid to speak her mind and make her thoughts known. She is even known to have some influence over The King, as she persuades him to mend his bond of trust with her future husband Sir William. She clearly shows her affection for Sir William in the 'Siege of the Abbey' mission, where in her dying breath she says: 'If you see William, tell him I love him.'

Despite this however, she could be very defiant when she wants to be. Seren even went so far as to shout at Barclay when he tries to persuade the player to join him. She also shows undying loyalty to her king and to Sir William. She is a very kind and affectionate woman but don't get on the wrong side of her.

  • It is dictators like you, who have torn the soul from this country!

Call me witch, will you? Let's see how you deal with this.

I may have lost this battle, but there is yet time to right these wrongs!

Another sinner has their day! I weep for them.

  • It will not go easy William, he thinks you a traitor and with good cause.  You left his side, signed over the royal guard, attacked one of my castles and freed an enemy of the crown!  Hardly the valiant deeds of a noble knight!

  • Well Sir William I must take my leave.  The King rests with me and he shall be expecting me back.

Role assigned to: WashingMachinae

Sir Edwin is one of the AI Lords in Stronghold 2 appearing in both campaigns. He is cruel and extorts money from his peasants.

Edwin has short hair, shaved at the back and sides. He wears a suit of armor with a yellow cape, which matches his flag.

Edwin has a very short temper and is  a highly-strung character with little self-confidence and no capacity to hide this fact. His general jittery nature sometimes gives way to short bursts of spasmodic twitching when he speaks. He generally is a very "Over the top" character, that just annoys you.  Once he starts failing at something he becomes even more cowardly than before and blames his troops for not doing their jobs right.

He often threatens his enemies if they annoy him but, unless you have rubbish defenses, he can never carry them out. He often calls the player an 'upstart'. He does this at several points in the game.

  • Just so we are clear everybody, kill them, kill them all! I want none left alive, not a peasant, not a lord, not a fly, not one... kill them dead... all of them... dead...

  • Noo!  I spent a fortune on those weapons. What am I supposed to do with them now?

I knew these weapons would prove useful.  Surrender or die old man!

  • No, no-no-no-no! Don't kill me, please don't kill me... I surrender, I surrender!!! (sobs)

Thief

Role assigned to: Zordrak

Thieves are not made for combat but for stealing gold from the enemy's treasury. They have the appearance of a farmer to the other players. They can be ordered to 'attack' a player's treasury. When deployed, they steal 25 gold at regular intervals. Thieves can be uncovered by patrolling guards or manually by the player.

I'd imagine them sounding very full of themselves. Showing off their thieving skills, and quickly changing tone  when asked to attack or defend.

When uncovered, the thief gets into melee combat and behaves like a regular soldier. He performs very well with his short sword, but falls from a few arrow hits. Thieves cost much honor and should be used carefully.

Despite these shortfalls, in a siege situation, with lots of thieves, one can raid an opponents treasury and steal gold from them as the spoils of war. This is a costly process in terms of honour, but it brings in lots of gold.

This unit is recruited from the Mercenary Post.

  • Where's my target?

    You... need a thief?

    At your command.

    I'll do your bidding.

    What's the prize?

    Just point the way.

  • None will follow me, none will see me.

    What's theirs... is yours!

Steele is controlled by the player. When he speaks during missions, his portrait is not shown on the interface.

Outlaw

The outlaw is an ambush unit appearing in Stronghold 2.

Outlaws don't have any specific requirements for personality. And are open to interpretation.

Outlaws are fast and expensive units suitable for ambush, because of their green camouflage. They can throw javelins at distant enemies, causing high damage on unarmored units. Javelins take time to "recharge" after thrown. When not having one, the outlaw equips his dagger, offering limited effectiveness in melee combat.

Outlaws appear as green dots on the minimap like trees and bushes to the enemy, making them useful to sneak up on an unsuspecting enemy and perform a hit-and-run attack.

Outlaws are rarely seen on the battlefield. They are quite expensive to their capabilities and almost always need assistance, having similar attributes as a men-at-arms, but costlier. They also lack armor and damage output to fight successfully on their own. However, they are somewhat more durable than a spearman and also move faster. Multiple javelins thrown at a crossbowman or a maceman can also prove lethal.

Outlaws are favorably used in castle defenses due to their attributes. When they are placed on a gatehouse or a tower, they gain a huge benefit from height advantage. Moreover, they are quite a good counter to ladder attacks, as they can kill advancing laddermen with their javelins and push off any ladders set up.

  • Oh yeah? What is it?

    You again, eh?

    You're pushing your luck...

    Yes?

Role assigned to: TheDoctor

The Axe Thrower is a mercenary unit in Stronghold 2.

While the Axe Thrower has little health and is particularly weak against armored units and missile attacks, their fast attack speed and high attack allow them to easily rip through hordes of unarmored and lightly armored foes. Care should be used when deploying them, as their range is shorter than that of both Archers and Crossbowmen, requiring them to be quite close to the enemy to be effective.

Axe throwers speak with a Danish accent. Axe throwers don't have any specific requirements for personality and are  open to interpretation.
