Spy X Family Manga Dub
Project Overview
Thank you for clicking on the project page for the Spy x Family manga dub project! We are planning to dub the entire manga, with video editing, and adding sfx and music to make the dub sound more alive, like what a theoretical anime would sound like!
Synopsis:
Twilight, a master spy working to ensure peace between the East and the West, has been assigned the most dangerous mission in his entire career: start a family! With his take wife Yor, a secret assassin, and his adopted daughter Anya, a secret telepath, the three learn to become a family while working to complete Twilight's missions and maintain world peace.
Requirements:
- Please have a good sounding microphone, preferably an XLR mic, but a high end USB mic will do as well.
- I will not be accepting auditions with background noise, static, etc, so please try to eliminate as much noise as possible before and after recording.
- Must be 16+ and have a Discord account, as that is the primary tool of communication for the cast. Once you are cast, I'll be PMing each of you for your Discord usernames.
Auditioning Guidelines:
- No more than 3 takes per line.
- Slating is fine, but make it quick if you have to.
- Do your best, as this is for fun!
Few other things to note:
- You do not have to have previously read Spy X Family when auditioning, but having a grasp on the story and characters by reading it beforehand is a major plus.
- On each role, there will sometimes be a "Most Similar to" section at the bottom referencing a pre-existing character. While these are the type of voices I imagine would be their "canon" voices, you most certainly do not have to follow them when auditioning! Thumbnails are incredibly important for video exposure, so having someone skilled in creating eye-catching thumbnails is imperative. Major plus if you also auditioned for any of the voice roles as well!
Please provide previous work of your thumbnail work, preferably from a manga dub, comic dub, or abridged series project. If you have not had any previous work, please provide a mockup image of a supposed first episode of the dub project.

While this casting call has listed a lot of named, major characters, there's a lot of minor or extra characters in this manga, too many to count! So if you don't feel like any of these listed roles are for you but still want to provide some extra lines, feel free to drop your demo reel here!

Personality:
Anya is a small child, around 4 or 5 years old, who is a runaway child from an underground experiment which accidentally gave her the power to read people's thoughts. After her escape, she moved from place to place for shelter, including the orphanage where she tricked Loid Forger (Twilight) into adopting her. She's a student of Eden Academy, and tries her best to succeed at her school, despite her less-than-optimal intellect.
Voice
Since she is roughly 4 or 5 years old, a cute little girl voice would be a perfect fit for her character. Something high pitch and adorable, but not too grating on the ears, since she is one of the most talkative characters in the series so far.

[Worried] I only flunked this test cuz I read the wrong kid's mind... From now on, I'll take the time to figure out which of my classmates is good at which subject. [Smug/Mischevious] That way when I cheat, I'll ace the test every time! Easy peasy! Heheheh...
[Verge of crying] I, um, I wanted to...Um, I... [Sobbing] I'm really sorry for hitting you yesterday! I really just want to be your friend!
[Grim/Serious] You just don't get it, papa. Adventures are supposed to be fun and exciting. And when people are having fun, they want stuff like skeleton key chains and wooden souvenir swords. [Overdramatically serious] But you're not having fun at all. And when you're not having fun, you drag me down, too. If you want me to have fun, then you should be dressed from head to toe like you're having fun!
Personality:
Yor "Forger" is a 27-year-old woman who works as a normal clerk at Berlint City Hall, but is also an assassin who acts under the codename "Thorn Princess". She agrees in pretending to be Loid's wife and Anya's mother in order to help him reach his goals as well as her own. She has two very distinct personalities: The public face, a calm, ditzy, but well meaninged wife and mother, and her assassin face, very serious, cold, and brutal. She struggles with having this balance of two very different lives.
Voice:
Since Yor is 27-year-old woman, I'd imagine her voice to be very calm, sweet, and easy to listen to during her public face, but immediately switches to a brutal and violent tone during her assassin face, so versatility is very much key for this role.

[Sweet and lovely, even when she's thinking about gruesome concepts] Okay, let's see...the denominator is five, which means it's being divided into five parts. Maybe it would be easier to think of it in terms of a torso with four limbs. If you were to begin severing them,,,Oh, but you're still left with the head! So I guess a body has six parts? Anyway, five, huh...five... You know, a "5" looks a lot like an "S"!
[As assassin] Excuse me. Vice Minister Brennan from the auditing department, I presume? I apologize for the intrusion, but...May I have the have the honor of taking your life?
[Worried/Verge of crying] Are you okay? I'm sorry, I looked away for just a moment...All the ingredients are a mess now...I really am a terrible mother, aren't I?
Personality:
Sylvia Sherwood, also known as the Handler, is Twilight's main contact as WISE (The Westalia Intelligence Services' Eastern-Focused Division). Sylvia is a young woman with a slim figure and narrow purple eyes that droop at the corners. She has long and wavy red hair that reaches the middle of her back. Not much has been to shown to get an understanding of her personality but from what's been shown, it's that she is similar to Twilight in which she is dedicated, skilled and logical with her approach to ideas but still is a somewhat impatient person albeit the target,
Voice:
As Sylvia is a higher-up at WISE, the voice type that would fit her the most is a commanding, middle-aged woman voice, with a bit of a sultry dash in her voice.
Most Similar to: Tara Platt, specifically Mitsuru from Persona 3.
[Expository] Eden Academy. Student body of roughly 2,500, ranging in age from six to 19. The curriculum spans all 13 years of education. Eden offers a top-class education in every field, from academics to sports to the fine arts. The students who manage to distinguish themselves among even their fellow elites join the school's honor program as so-called Imperial Scholars.
[Furious] What's these expense reports you've been submitting? You rented a castle?! And furniture from the royal palace?! Do you think our operating budget is your private allowance?!
[Commanding] As you've heard, we have a problem on our hands. We need to get the jump on these terrorists and stop the attack. I want you to surreptitiously leak what we've learned to officials of the ruling party. I'm sure they want to avoid an incident as much as we do. And I'm afraid I'm going to need your help for a little longer. With relations between east and west at the brink already, if the public were to find out about this, even a failed assassination attempt could push them over the edge. We need to do whatever it takes to head this off.
Personality:
Fiona Frost is a spy for WISE who acts under the codename "Nightfall". She works undercover as an assistant to Loid Forger at Berlint General Hospital to provide him with mission details. After being trained by Loid to hide her true emotions, Fiona tends to remain emotionless on the surface—even when making a mental confession of love to Loid she kept her stone-cold face plastered on. She thinks of herself as the superior partner to Loid and wishes to separate him from Yor Forger so that they can be together. Fiona is able to conceal all of her emotions, making it impossible for anyone to tell what emotion she is feeling. At all times she has a stone-cold look at her face whether she's happy, angry, or even proposing her love.
Voice:
Like other characters in the series, she has two sides to her personality/lifestyle: her stone-cold demeanor, vacant of any emotion in her face or presumably tone, while having a secret side of being obsessive over her one true love, Twilight. So balancing out between emotionless and emotional is key to nailing down her voice.

[Expository, calm, without a hint of unnecessary emotion] Cavl Campbell, Age 56. After earning his fortune in the energy sector, he became widely known as one of the world's foremost collectors of classical art. His collection include the painting The Lady in The Sun, valued at roughly one million dalc. That is the target of our mission.
[Obsessively in love] This new milder you is every bit as adorable! My heart throbs for you so much, it hurts. I love you so! Even if you've become one of those toy knives where the blade retracts on contact, I still yearn for you! If anything, this new carefree you is somehow even more endearing~!❤️ Nevertheless, this will not do! Awakening the heart buried within you is my life's work! Yor Forger, I will usurp the wife position from you!
[Secretly mouthing something in code, phonetically speaking] Let me ask you, Twilight. Is walking your dog an essential part of this operation? Shouldn't this woman be handling your errands? Does she refuse to cooperate? I'm saying that it's a great loss to the world to have a man of your talents focusing his efforts on playing house. I propose we review your operational talents.
Yuri Briar is Yor's younger brother and a twenty-year-old man who works in the State Security System. He keeps his job at the SSS a secret from his sister and instead pretends to be a normal civil servant at the foreign ministry. Yuri is very similar to his sister, as he has both a calm and resolved exterior, and a very violent interior working with the SSS, which is the equivalent of the Secret Police. He does what he can to help his sister out, as he cares for her to an extreme level.
Voice:
Very similar to the description of Yor, except he's less violent and more verbally brutal with his work, being part of the SSS. If I had to pinpoint an exact character match for his voice, he reminds me the most of Akechi from Persona 5, so maybe try to go for something in that direction.

[Serious/Intimidating] Mr. Hayward, the crime you committed is called treason. Maybe those were just scraps of paper to you, but those scraps of paper might have endangered the lives of countless citizens. Do you not see that? Unlike you, I love my family. I love my sister. And I will do whatever it takes to protect this country that she lives in. [Slow and precise] Whatever it takes.
[Calm/Discussive] Oh, well, yeah. It was just for work though. But it's a beautiful city! I wish I could take you one day. There were all these lovely cafes, and we found this particularly neat old one. They said it was was a favorite of the Empress back in the day!
[Extremely drunk] I get it now, Yor. That strong a reaction to me stopping your kiss... I get how eager you are to smear your lips all over that creep! I was a fool to think I was testing you. When what was being tested all along was...my own feelings!
Damian is the second son of Donovan Desmond, Twilight's main target, and attends Eden's Academy as part of Cecile Hall, Group 3. He has a very arrogant and rude personality, but has developed feelings for Anya, leading to a very mixed relationship between the two, often engaging in fights.
Voice:
An arrogant and rude personality should be complimented with a very arrogant and rude child voice, but he has his more tender thoughts, especially geared towards Anya, so having some versatility with emotions is very key for his character.

[Sarcastically inquisitive] So what does your dad do? If he's important enough, you could be my friend too. [Dismissive] Oh, so he's a total nobody. Yeah...that's not gonna cut it. (Not even close)
[Irritated/Annoyed] I don't have time to waste on shrimps like her. I gotta be MVP in this game so I can score a star. I need to become an imperial scholar like my brother did. [Sad/Lonesome] Otherwise...Dad won't pay any attention to me at all.
[On verge of crying] Father! On the mid-term exam...I earned a stella star! I know it's only one, but,,,I was pretty close in other subjects too. [Trailing off] Oh but then I got a 50 on my reading test...And also... The griffin I made in art class won first prize...and also, um,..
Personality:
Becky is the daughter of CEO Blackbell, a major military manufacturer. She attends Eden Academy as part of Cecile House, Group 3, and becomes Anya Forger's close friend. Becky is a very kind child but with her being the daughter of a major military manufacturer, she is shown to be somewhat prideful and tries to be mature, attempting to take Anya under her wing as an act of benevolence when she views Anya as a brat. She doesn't attempt to get close to Damian Desmond despite his social position, even looking down on their classmates who try to befriend Damian and Anya who is initially bullied by Damian's group. Anya's confident smile later wins over Becky's admiration for maturity.
Voice:
Despite Becky being a young child, she acts very mature and sometimes a bit haughty, so try to match her somewhat juxtaposing voice with her personality in an equal balance.

[Expository] Oh! Did you hear the news? At the end of the term, they're going to divide us into new classes by ability...We're being separated based on our performance. So basically, kids like me who are pretty good at school will be in one class, and kids like you will be in another.
[Oggling in love towards Anya and Damian] I know exactly how you feel, Anya. Love can be such a hard thing to communicate... [Reassuring] You don't need to act so bashful about it, Anya! You're so hot and cold! I've got it! I'm gonna help you make him fall for you!
We don't have time to waste picking out clothes for you! I need something for me! What sort of look is Loid into?! Tell me! [Listing off outfits with a light romantic tone] Is it the tried and true cute-girl style? Or is he more into the high fashion type? Maybe something like this? I could go all-out sexy? Or more like his current wife? [Annoyed] Ugh, I don't even know anymore! [Defeated] I guess I'll just take them all.
