Hazuki Re-cast
Just a quick update to let people viewing this page know that I am looking for a new Hazuki for the project. I've posted a re-casting call here!
What is Sound Euphonium?
Sound Euphonium is an anime about a high school band, and the struggles and challenges they face as they shoot to win the Nationals. It has stunning animation and wonderful, complex characters, a budding romance between two main female characters...BUT no English dub. (Until now!)
I've put a trailer above so you can get a quick overview of the tone of the show.
Details
Currently, I'm just aiming to get the first episode of the series dubbed. Depending on how it goes, what kind of reception it receives, etc. then I'd love to dub the entire show. Don't worry about a large time committment or anything; I'm flexible about schedules and know what it's like to have no free time.
There are a lot of characters in the show, since it is about a high school band, so there are many background parts that need to be filled that I won't post here.
Guidelines
I'm aiming to produce a high-quality dub, so please record with a good mic. You do not need a Skype account, just email or something similar where I can send script, files, etc.
Ready to make this happen? To quote the show, "And now the next piece begins!"

Hey there!
I've sent the script out to cast members who provided me with their contact info, so I hope everyone is doing their best on it!
Unfortunately, a couple important people in important roles (Hazuki and Taki-sensei) have not responded to messages. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with their roles; should I create a new project just to recast them? Or should I wait a little longer and hope they check their messages...
Woohoo! Thanks to everyone who tried out; you all were great, and I hope you keep auditioning for more things!
There's just a few more things I need to get firmed up before sending out the informational email, so if those of you who were cast could send me your email/contact info, that'd be great. A few roles have been left uncast, as they aren't in episode one. If/when episode two rolls around, I'll keep these auditions in mind.
Looking forward to working with all of you.
PS: This was basically me, getting excited over who would be playing who: http://i61.tinypic.com/rtq1c0.jpg
Hey everyone!
The deadline for submitting auditions has been reached. Thanks to everybody who tried out for a part! I was planning on finishing up the script yesterday, and casting roles today, however...I got sick D;
(And the best way to heal quickly is to lay in bed listening to audiobooks, right?)
So despite being a little behind, I still hope to complete the casting process in a day or so.
Oh, and happy Easter! Hope you got lots of goodies.
After finalizing the script for the first episode last night, it has come to my attention that there are several parts I've listed that do not speak until the second episode. Bummer, I know. Specifically, those parts are Kaori, Yuuko, and Natsuki. So if you end up getting one of these parts, just know that you won't be needed for the first episode. If we do end up going ahead and dubbing all 12 episodes, that's where your talents will be needed. (Here's an Asuka gif, to end this update on a great note!)
Shuuici is a friendly young man who tries his best at everything. He's been harboring a crush on Kumiko for years, but has only recently had the courage to act on it. He plays the trombone.
What are you doing tomorrow?
We've been friends for years; you could at least say 'hi' to me!
Yuuko comes across as a sweet, innocent girl who looks up to her senpai Kaori a great deal. If someone else is threatening Kaori's success, though, Yuuko becomes a mean girl diva who always gets her way. Her love for Kaori can cause her to treat others poorly.
Is it true that you knew Reina before this? How could the auditions have been fair?
I believe Kaori should play the solo!
Natsuki starts off the school year not caring about band, but she becomes inspired to work hard and give it her all. She is aloof, but gets along with everyone well.
I show my love through harrassment.
No wonder you're so much better than me...
You don't have to like the things you're good at, I guess.
Kaori is the first-chair trumpet player in the band. She is well-liked, gentle, and soft-spoken.
I just wanted to say sorry about the auditions. It got pretty competitive.
If only Asuka could teach her better...
Taki-sensei is the new music teacher at the high school. He is polite and well-mannered, but the students soon find out that he is extremely strict and methodical as a teacher. Though his methods produce results, he can often come across as being harsh. All things considered, though, he cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
I thought I said not to call me until you were ready to play in an ensemble.
If you sacrifice the time you spent on being young, this much practice shouldn't be difficult.
Now, go show them what we're made of!
Ms. Matsumoto is a very serious teacher. She keeps her emotions out of the classroom, but cares about the students in her own way.
You're in high school now. You shouldn't be making noise in a classroom.
Explain the length of your skirts! Fix them now.
I'm in charge of this class. My name is Michie Matsumoto.
Sapphire is small and quiet, but she makes up for it with her positivity and kindness. She expresses herself through her music. (She plays the contrabass.) She's sick of everyone calling her 'Sapphire', and prefers to go by 'Midori'.
Um, if you don't mind, I'd rather be called 'Midori'.
'Contrabass' is the name of an instrument, actually.
People can change anything! Anything in the world!
Hazuki is energetic and loves to try new things. She's determined to make the most out of high school, so she joins the band club along with her friends. (She plays the tuba.) Although a beginner, she works hard and never gives up.
I've decided to make new friends in high school, and do all kinds of fun things with them. So I'm counting on you, Kumiko!
Oh, who am I? Hazuki Katou, and I sit right behind you!
Sapphire, huh? That is an awesome name!
Mamiko is Kumiko's older sister. She quit concert band to study for college entrance exams, but she still didn't get accepted into the college of her choice. She's a little bitter, and likes to tease Kumiko, as well as barge into her room without knocking.
You even wore a ponytail? That's trying too hard on your first day.
Oh, yeah, one more thing...are you quitting concert band?
Reina is a mysterious loner. She is the best trumpet player in the band, and acts like it. Music is her entire life. Because of this drive, she has isolated herself from others, and doesn't have friends...until she meets Kumiko. Her voice should be classy and cold.
I'm so upset...I'm so upset I could die!
I didn't come to watch. I came to join.
You definitely have a terrible personality, Kumiko.
Kumiko is the main character. She's somewhat introverted, sarcastic, and has a habit of blurting out what she's thinking. Once you get to know her, she has a great care-free personality. She is very serious about music. She plays the euphonium.
Wishes don't come true unless you make them out loud.
Why did I believe the rumor that my breasts would get bigger once I was in high school?
They don't play together. They're off-pitch and have no rhythm. I guess they aren't trying for the Nationals... But still, they really stink.
Asuka is crazy. But it's the fun kind of crazy! She's a third year student, and the vice president of the band club. Because she's so playful, her behaviour can often come across as childish. She's friends with everyone, but not extremely close with anyone.
Euphonium-san is my only love!
C'mon baby, you're contrabass is mine from now on.
I don't care. I honestly, really don't care.
Haruka is the band club president. She's constantly in Asuka's shadow, and questions her own qualifications to be president. Though she struggles with self-doubt, she is calm and responsible.
Settle down, everyone!
Play a tuning B-flat, please.
Why aren't you the president, Asuka?
