Described as the world's vilest person and worst screw-up, Dr. Eggman is an immoral mad scientist who only thinks about doing bad things.[66][67][68][15] He always aspires to conquer the world to create what he deems a utopia, dubbed "Eggmanland".[15][69] This gives him ridiculous delusions of grandeur and the psychotic belief that the world's problems will be solved if he rules it despite being far from the case.[70][71] Dr. Eggman constantly uses his scientific genius and robotic expertise to create weapons and gadgets in his bid to build Eggmanland.

Amy is described as an "energetic tomboy",[8] though by the time of the Chaos incident, she is shown to have traditional feminine interests nonetheless, such as shopping and fashion.[9] Despite her assertiveness though, it has not come at the expense of her sense of femininity. Amy also hates boredom and loves thrills and excitement; during her time in Station Square, she found her mundane city life dull and longed for the exhilaration of being a part of Sonic's adventures.

Knuckles is fiercely loyal to Angel Island and does whatever is in his power to protect it. He prefers to stay close to the Master Emerald's shrine to keep a watchful eye over everything at his home. Despite this devotion, the echidna is willing to leave his duty whenever his help is needed.[14] Though he has found other lifestyles appealing, and may even dream of a free one like Sonic's own,[29] he will never trade away his duties as he is far too devoted to his role as guardian, looking very concerned whenever he leaves the Master Emerald behind and spending too much time protecting the giant gem alone.[33] When not performing his duties, Knuckles prefers spending his time practicing his fighting skills, going treasure hunting, or hanging out with his friends.

A noble soul and strong young lady, Blaze is highly devoted to the welfare of her people.[10] She is normally rather calm and solemn but tends to conceal her true feelings.[20] She is also often described as elegant, which is demonstrated through her movements and her ballerina-like fighting style. Being royalty, Blaze is quite stoic personality-wise, which is a perfect example of the spirit of the noblesse oblige, as she is very frequently doing her official duties, but still tries to do her best for everyone's peace and safety. Because of her lineage and her stoicism, she is sometimes too distant from those around her, but that is also the flip side of her good nature.[10] She likewise always sticks to her personal principles, which means doing the best she can with pride in the position she is in. This may be the source of Blaze's strength, and it may also be what makes her so appealing.[10]

To most people, Rouge appears as a brave,[20] ambitious, independent, flirtatious, greedy, calculating narcissist who only thinks about herself and treasure. In Sonic Generations she is referred to as a temptress, due to her seductive ways. A gem-enthusiast, Rouge specializes in gem heists and gem-based treasure hunts, and has an unquenchable thirst for gemstones. The latter is due to a certain philosophy of hers: once you get a good gem, you will want a better one.[21] However, a jewel that she cannot actually hold in her hand has no value to her, although a beautiful scenery matching the finest of jewels is equally valuable to her.[21]

Among his colleagues, Espio's opinionated attitude serves a key role in Team Chaotix, allowing him to reign in and balance out the more optimistic and zany behaviors exhibited by Vector and Charmy.[12] Despite his more serious demeanour compared to his colleagues, he can be prone to his own quirks, such as being conflicted on the outcome of a race in order to have some of Vanilla's victory cake, or being intrigued by Blaze's offer to come and work in the Sol Empire purely down to the idea of the pay.[15][16] He also appears to find small creatures, like Flickies, adorable.[9] It is said Espio's unique charm comes from a combination of his cute and charming - yet cool and stoic appearance. Espio's ability to be swept in his teamamates antics despite this coolness can be described as "adorable".[8]

Charmy is curious, playful, always upbeat, and likes to fool around and crack jokes.[9] Because he's a child, he loves to play above all else (especially work), and he can always be seen flying around energetically.[6][8][3] When the team is receiving their first mission at the beachy Seaside Hill, Charmy is hovering around singing "Sea, sea, sea". However, he works hard to help his partners.[7]

In the present, Whisper is also a rather mysterious individual with a quiet and withdrawn personality. Very soft-spoken, she speaks only when the situation calls for it and, true to her name, in a very low volume, rarely uttering more than a few words at a time. She also values her personal space and limited her interactions with others, fearing that if she made new friends, she could not handle losing them too.[17][18][19] When in social situations, Whisper usually exhibits a rather bashful side of herself.[2]

Miles "Tails" Prower is an amber colored fox whose most recognizable trait is his twin tails. While he was originally teased for them, he has learned to appreciate and love his tails, especially since they have come in handy once joining Sonic the Hedgehog in defeating Dr. Eggman's plans time and time again. Being able to twirl his tails together, Tails is able to lift off the ground and use them as a helicopter, and fly for short periods of time. He can also use them while on the ground, giving him an extra burst of speed to catch up to Sonic while running. Tails can even use them to attack enemies, able to break robots in Sonic 3 & Knuckles by flying up into them horizontally, and uses his tails as a whip in Sonic Adventure to break enemies on the ground, called the "Tail Rotation Attack."

Although usually serious on the outside, Silver is young and somewhat immature.[29] He has been described as naïve, rash, and reckless. That does not mean, however, that he is incompetent, as Eggman Nega once said that he is very perceptive and that he rarely falls for his tricks.[30] With little information to draw upon, he lets his intuition guide him, Silver is very sharp and does not fall for the tricks of Rouge the Bat.
