Amy Rose

Role assigned to: KiraBell

Her Personality:

Amy is a proactive go-getter that goes after what she wants and lets nothing get in her way. As early as the first Little Planet incident, Amy was shown to possess a proactive streak. When she had just her tarot cards to go by back then, she made her way all the way to Little Planet when her tarot cards told her that she had a "destined encounter" on the small satellite. She is likewise an intuitive activist, which usually means she acts before thinking things through.[14]

Amy is described as an "energetic tomboy",[3] though by the time of the Chaos incident, she is shown to nonetheless have traditional feminine interests such as shopping and fashion.[15] Despite her assertiveness though, it has not come at the expense of her sense of femininity. Amy also hates boredom and loves thrills and excitement; during her time in Station Square, she found her mundane city life dull and longed for the exhilaration of being a part of Sonic's adventures.

Amy is very open and expressive about her feelings and emotions, always speaking her mind and never letting her feelings get bottled up inside.[16] As such, Amy can be quite obsessive and aggressive, especially when it comes to her infatuations with Sonic. When angered, she has a habit of pulling out and threatening others with her Piko Piko Hammer, especially when people cross her or hurt people she cares about. Amy has as well been shown to have no reservations about expressing more extreme emotions, be it either crying when overcome with sadness or not holding back in expressing her over-the-top enthusiasm. As a result, Amy can come off as overbearing and very pushy, Possessing a powerful personality, her assertiveness and temper make her something of a troublemaker. All the same, she has shown to not tolerate people hurting those she cares about, and will retaliate with anger when witnessing such acts. As such, her enthusiasm tends to get her as much in trouble as it helps out others.

Originally, Amy was barely able to take care of herself when in dangerous situations. As such, she was ultimately a damsel-in-distress figure who needed Sonic to save her. Recognizing this, she eventually started chasing after her hero, and gradually "grew" into a tenacious and more proactive girl who was as active and strong as Sonic.[17]

In Sonic Battle, she develops a fascination with "Boxercise" playing to both elements of her personality. The exercise helps her lose weight to maintain her girlish figure, and the boxing to help her train when she's forced to fight. She also had shown a very powerful and aggressive attitude, willing to fight whenever necessary to help and protect those she cares about.

Amy has a kind heart and never gives up, having a strong belief in fate and destiny. Her faith in her tarot cards led her to the fated encounter that brought Sonic into her life, and in Sonic Battle, she shows such faith in her tarot cards that she insisted that Sonic would be at Tails' place on their reading outcome alone.

Amy is also an optimist,[3] and is usually very cheerful and possesses a positive outlook on life. Amy is always full of hope and is always cheering on for the good side of things. Notably, she almost never seems to find anything hopeless, as shown in Sonic Adventure, where she was determined to help birdie who had lost its family. This cheerfulness likewise makes her the driving force of her team.[14]

Amy has a very strong sense of empathy and a surprising capability for caring. She is very encouraging and is more than willing to reach out to all kinds of people. In Sonic Adventure, Amy showed she was more than willing to protect the bird that crashed into her from ZERO, and helped it reunite with its siblings out of the goodness of her heart. She similarly defended E-102 Gamma from Sonic when the latter tried to destroy him after motivating Gamma to rebel against Eggman. Similarly, in Sonic Adventure 2, she reaches out to Shadow, pleading to him by telling him that as selfish as humanity was, they deserved a chance to be happy. Likewise, during Sonic Heroes, Amy would raise Cream and Big's spirits whenever they lost hope about finding their friends. Also, in Shadow The Hedgehog, Amy insists that Shadow does not attack the Egg Pawns in Cryptic Castle and will show frustration when he does. When it comes down to it, Amy is a likable person and has rarely met anyone who she did not befriend (including Gamma, Shadow and Blaze).

Amy's personality has added more a humorous factor in games like Sonic ColorsSonic Free Riders, and Sonic Generations with her obsession for Sonic, which causes her to say silly and embarrassing things.

Starting from Sonic Lost World, although Amy maintains her crush on Sonic, she is a lot more passive and her demeanor is more reserved and level-headed.

Shadow The Hedgehog

Role assigned to: OrchidKnux

His Personality:

Being Sonic's polar opposite personality-wise,[5] Shadow is, bluntly put, a brooding loner. He usually acts with a cool and businesslike indifference, only occasionally showing his vulnerable side. He is rarely seen with others for an extended period of time and usually distances himself from essentially everyone. He is usually blunt and does not speak much, but he always knows exactly what to say in combat. However, Shadow never bluffs; if he makes a threat, he has every intention of carrying it out.

Shadow also does not mind boasting about how powerful he is, calling himself the "Ultimate Lifeform" and, like Sonic, can be extremely arrogant, often belittling his opponents and insulting their lack of strength. He believes no one can beat him and tends to see anyone as a fool for challenging him. Shadow also has a ruthless and merciless edge in combat that most other characters in the series lack and displays a natural "killer instinct".

As the most violent and merciless character in the series at times,[5] Shadow's ruthlessness and aggression leads to enemies never treating him lightly; he is one of the very few individuals Sonic takes seriously. Alongside his dark and violent demeanor, Shadow can be smug and stubborn. He treats others in a very callous manner, throwing in his opinion no matter how cold-hearted it is and not caring for whatever the response is. Shadow is also shown to have a sharp wit; in Sonic Adventure 2, after being called a faker by Sonic, he replies that Sonic is not worth being considered his fake. In Shadow the Hedgehog, he similarly taunts Black Doom's eye for having trouble with GUN. This attitude is reflected in the original Japanese version, where Shadow omits honorifics and speaks highly of himself (if not rudely). At the same time, however, in Japanese, he normally uses the "boku" pronoun when referring to himself as opposed to the more arrogant/confident "ore" pronoun (which characters such as Sonic and Knuckles use).

Just like how Shadow's motivations are never simple to understand, he spends as much time grappling with his own inner demons as he does with his rival, Sonic.[5] In the past, Shadow has had a degree of mental instability, in particular post traumatic stress disorder. This was demonstrated by his instances of post-traumatic flashbacks to Maria's face prior to and during the events of Shadow the Hedgehog, though it could be argued that the instances of the latter game were simply an effect of his amnesia. On one occasion, in Sonic Adventure 2, seeing police sirens flashing caused him to intensely flash back to the massacre aboard ARK and in particular Maria's death. Shadow was soon able to overcome this in his his own game and in Sonic Battle, during which he chose to move on from the past, yet keep Maria in his heart. In fact, his personal journey since being awoken by Eggman has had him confront the shackles of his past, such as ties, fate, and memories. Since then, it appears as though he is reaching a point where he can "do as his heart desires" in his own way.[15]

In many games Shadow is featured in, he pursues his foes with a relentless, unwavering determination. He will usually go to any length to accomplish something he desires or feels should be a certain way, no matter what the cost. In Sonic Forces, it is heavily implied that Shadow ruthlessly massacred an entire mercenary band not only in an extremely dismissive, nonchalant manner (as he did not even remember the incident a few months later), but also seemed slightly proud, mocking the mercenary defense squad by saying they themselves needed a defense squad. He also demonstrated rather coarse language in his own game.

Shadow possesses a strong sense of identity; after falsely being told by Rouge that he isn't the Ultimate Lifeform due to a lab report, he states to her that even if his memories were fake, he is still Shadow the Hedgehog. Similarly, in Sonic Heroes, during the Egg Fleet level, he mentions that, even without his memories, he is still the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. These qualities make him rarely susceptible to being manipulated by others.

In Shadow's own words, he is not interested in peace, nor does he care about what happens to others. In truth, he simply does not like when foolish people do whatever they please. While this may make it seem like Shadow stands firmly in opposition to villainy, he is actually very indiscriminate about who he faces, as he choses to stand against anyone who he condemns for being foolish, be they villains like Dr. Eggman or heroes like Sonic. He similarly does not want thanks for the help he provides when he does something heroic, believing that showing gratitude is a waste of time.[15] Despite his apathetic nature, however, Shadow is not without compassion; since reforming himself at the end of the Space Colony ARK incident, he has ultimately fought for the greater good. When Omega begins his attack in Sonic Heroes, Shadow could have easily forgotten about Rouge and engaged Omega without defending her, but instead saves her from Omega despite having absolutely no memory of her. He was also shown to be legitimately shocked when he learned that his goal of gaining the Chaos Emeralds to restore his memories was actually manipulated by Black Doom in order to wipe out humanity. Likewise, when the Commander finally confronts him with his own memories of Shadow's nightmarish creation, Shadow agrees to face judgment if he was indeed responsible for the ARK massacre 50 years ago. In Sonic Colors, Shadow was also shown to be worried about the possibility of Sonic and Tails getting hurt while trying to save the Wisp, much to their surprise. However, he ultimately remained dismissive about his concern for them.

Shadow is often depressed about the loss of Maria, which is why he keeps to himself, but his relationship with Maria is obvious as he goes to great lengths to protect the planet and keep her dream of peace and prosperity alive. He also maintains a strong bond with his teammates, Rouge and Omega, proving that while his attitude makes him seem like a careless person, he does have some compassion, more than he otherwise lets on. Still, Shadow brushes off most kindness or sympathy that is sent his way; in Sonic Heroes, when Rouge showed concern for Shadow when he saw a broken android of himself, suspecting Team Dark's Shadow might be an android too, Shadow curtly brushed her concern away. In Shadow the Hedgehog, after Sonic suggested some "friendly competition," Shadow bluntly rejected his offer. At times, however, Shadow is shown to appreciate genuine care. In Sonic Adventure 2, after Amy made him remember his promise to Maria, Shadow openly decided to keep his promise to protect the planet both to Maria and her. Another instance is in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), when Rouge told him that she would always be by his side, he acknowledged her.

Despite the fact that Shadow often fights for the greater good, he is considered an anti-hero for the most part due to his morality and means to his desired end goals. He does whatever is necessary to get what he wants or feels is right, though this enthusiasm causes him to take risks and jump into situations without fully thinking it through.[16] Alongside Rouge, he has also taken prize money and jewels upon winning in Sonic Free Riders. He and Rouge disregard the opening and closing ceremonies for the Grand Prix, showing up late without a third teammate and, if they win the Grand Prix, starting to walk off right away with what turn out to be dummy versions of the prize money and gems. Regardless, Shadow does have his moments of selflessness and heroism; he nearly sacrificed his life at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 to save earth, and helped Silver uncover the truth of the Solaris Project after saving Sonic from him in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Knuckles

Role assigned to: OrchidKnux

His Personality:

Knuckles is independent, wild, hot-blooded,[19] tough, and a loner by nature. Like how Sonic embodies the wind, Knuckles embodies the mountain;[1] stern, unmovable and anchored to his duty. Due to having lived in seclusion for most of his life, Knuckles is a rather antisocial and reclusive individual. As such, he cares very little about what others think, which makes him bluntly honest, straight-forward, and somewhat egotistical.[20]

Knuckles is fiercely loyal to his homeland and does whatever is in his power to protect it. He prefers to stay close to the island's current emerald shrine to keep a watchful eye over everything at his home. Despite this devotion, Knuckles is willing to leave his duty whenever his help is needed, or when he feels the Master Emerald and Angel Island will be safe. Though Knuckles has found other lifestyles appealing, he will never trade away his duties as he is far too devoted to his role as guardian. When not performing his duties, Knuckles prefers spending his time practicing his fighting skills, going treasure hunting, or hanging out with his friends.

Knuckles is usually solemn, stoic and collected, and usually likes to be by himself. He is likewise stubborn, headstrong, and inflexible, preferring to do things his way, which causes him to clash with others. Regardless, he is very strong-willed, seldom wavering in his determination and will not give up on his goals once he has set them. While he is cool and determined in battle, Knuckles has an extremely short and wild temper and is hard to reason with when he is angry. Though his temper has often been known to get him into trouble, Knuckles has also learned to use it to his advantage by channeling it into his fighting skills.

Knuckles's profile, from the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Generations.

Despite being a silent loner, Knuckles is a heroic, brave, kind-hearted, and selfless soul. Unwilling to forgive guys for their ways,[19] he will risk his own life to save anyone or get them out of trouble, and shows empathy for people, even if they are a villain or enemy. He is likewise a loyal and caring friend, who is always willing to help his friends out in tight situations and will do anything to protect them. When not angered, Knuckles is pretty laid-back and never cracks under pressure. He can also be very understanding on the sly and does not take kindly to people who disrespect or hurt his friends, or innocents, in any way.

Having been living much of his life in isolation, Knuckles grew up believing in honesty and holds a firm and steadfast belief that there is good in everyone, which always lets him give people second chances. Because of his lack of social ingenuity, however, it makes him very naive, incredibly gullible, fast about forgiving people and easily misled, which has given him a history of being tricked by Eggman. This has made Knuckles aggressive and suspicious towards anyone he deems questionable. Over time, however, Knuckles has gotten better about this and is more suspicious concerning Eggman's trickery. Once he finds out he has been tricked, Knuckles can get quite angered, but quickly regains enough of his composure to start working towards a resolution immediately.

Though not dull-witted, Knuckles is often prone to rash and ill-advised actions. While not above picking complex strategies, Knuckles often chooses force to be the solution, pushing himself through obstacles while focusing on his goal and ignoring other factors along the way. Similarly, he can also be quite reckless when panicking about the Master Emerald, such being especially evident during the Space Colony ARK incident, where he ended up fighting Sonic for the controls of the Space Shuttle and causing it to crash land as well as abandoning his allies out of a panic due to the Master Emerald shards being lost to space from a collision with a meteor forcing the cargo bay to open. When in his right element however, Knuckles can be quite clever, sharp-witted and sneaky, such as setting several successful traps for Sonic and Tails on Angel Island when they first arrived. He is also capable of learning from his mistakes. Knuckles has also proven himself to have a high degree of leadership skills, most noticeably during his time as the commander of the Resistance. He is noted to be very charismatic with inspirational speeches, and he has a flair of daring plans that provided the Resistance with a much-needed offensive during the War to Take Back the Planet. However, for all his skills as a leader, Knuckles is still easily distracted and prefers to be out on the battlefield rather than in the command center.

Knuckles is said to be shy around women,[21] which makes him act awkwardly around girls like AmyBlaze, and Rouge. Because of his secluded lifestyle on Angel Island, Knuckles feels very uncomfortable in industrialized or crowded cities and places and being around hi-tech objects or gadgets (mostly because he's not inclined).

Knuckles seems to have lightened up on later adventures, such as the Time Eater incident and the Phantom Ruby incident. While he still sometimes displays a brooding, headstrong and stubborn attitude, he is shown to be better at acknowledging his shortcomings and displays more personal restraint and better social interaction.

Tails

Role assigned to: Rio

His Personality:

Tails is a gentle-hearted, sweet-natured and loyal fox with a positive attitude.[11] While he started out as timid and quiet,[12] he has since opened up and become more outgoing over time. Tails is not one to grab the spotlight for himself and instead, is always ready and willing to help others without asking for anything in return.

Tails has a distinct love for mechanics and he finds himself most at home in his workshop working on his next creation. Despite his great skills, Tails is very humble about his abilities,[13] never giving them many thoughts, though he has yet to discover his true potential of what he can accomplish.[14] By the time of the Lost Hex incident, Tails has become more confident and outspoken about his intelligence, though he still does not openly brag. Regardless, he has been known to mock Eggman's own creations, and sometimes Eggman himself.

When young, Tails often lacked self-confidence and courage. After meeting Sonic and gaining his support, Tails gained more confidence and belief in himself. However, this status quo, created from Sonic's authority over him, initially placed a mental stranglehold on Tails that made him dependent on Sonic. As such, he often lacked initiative and confidence when alone. However, a turning point for Tails came during the Chaos incident; when Station Square was in danger of being destroyed, Tails was the only one who could stop this. With Sonic nowhere to be found, Tails realized that he could not depend on Sonic forever and had to try on his own. After saving Station Square, Tails realized he could be independent and support himself without Sonic, and all he needed was determination and faith. Since then, Tails has become more independent, self-confident, motivated and brave, rising up to be a real hero when needed.

Tails' profile, from the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Generations.

During their earlier adventures together, Tails strove to become just like Sonic by replicating the mannerisms he found admirable. In this period, Tails was content with being Sonic's sidekick as he was just happy to hang out with Sonic. As Tails grew as a person, he would still remain as close to Sonic as ever and look up to him as he has always done, but his esteem about Sonic's heroics have dwindled, as these days he cares more about inventing than Sonic's heroic deeds.

Despite his development, Tails is still a bit timid at times and can sometimes sink into self-doubt during moments of distress. He also tends to call for Sonic and rely on him in times of weakness. However, he is always willing to support his friends with a clear mind.[15] Additionally, he hopes to one day be self-sufficient and independent like Sonic to prove he can be relied upon.[14] Also, even though Tails still enjoys being Sonic's sidekick, he believes that he can do almost anything if he puts his mind to it.

Despite his intelligence and general fearlessness, Tails is afraid of lightning and can be naive and big mouthed, such as during the Project Shadow incident, when he accidentally confirmed Eggman's suspicions that the Chaos Emerald that Sonic had was a fake, thus ruining the heroes' plans. Tails also hates feeling useless or being ignored, as seen in the cases when he is talking to Sonic. He also gets very angry when someone insults or seemingly ignores his mechanical skills and takes it very personally, as seen when Wave the Swallow mocked his self-customized Blue Star; or when he became offended after Sonic decided that Eggman should shut down his Extractor even though Tails was more than capable of doing it himself.

Tails has a tendency to talk techno-babble, much to the irritation of his friends, such as when he tried to explain how an Extreme Gear worked, meaning that Tails does not always use tact in a situational matter. Nevertheless, Tails is supportive of his friends, willing to be by their side no matter how dangerous the situation might be, and will do whatever it takes to help them, even if it means sacrificing himself for them.
