Solitaire by Alice Oseman - Audio Drama
Project Overview
This audio drama is based off of Alice Oseman's novel of the same name. Solitaire is a story about mental illness told through an unreliable narrator.
This is sort of a test to decide if I'll do the whole book; so far, we'll only be doing the first three chapters. I'm not yet sure if I'll open another casting call if I do continue, but either way, voice actors casted now are not required to stay if the work is lengthened.
BEFORE YOU AUDITION:
1. Solitaire is a very emotional story, and so actors need to have range.
2. All of the characters are British. A good British accent is absolutely necessary.
3. Be aware there is a very brief mention of Charlie's eating disorder, self harm relapse, and obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
PROJECT GUIDELINES:
1. You will need a Discord account. This is where the project will be taking place, and how assignments will be given and received. With this, please include your Discord username in your audition!
2. Be easy and respectful to work with. If you have any concerns, you can come to me politely.
3. Be comfortable with swearing/cussing. There is some swearing, but if the project continues, there will be more.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR AUDITION:
1. Good audio quality. We want to hear you clearly!
2. Professionalism. Please keep your auditions professional, so this means no outtakes, background noise, etc.
3. Three takes of each line. Please use AAABBBCCC format (saying each line twice with different tones/intonations).
4. Reading the lines as they are. If you believe there is a typo, please message me! Otherwise, read them as they were written.

Tori Spring is Solitaire's protagonist: a sarcastic, cynical pessimist of a teenage girl. She has little to no interest in anything except blogging and being alone. She is chronically depressed, though she doesn't know it.
Tori is 16 and British. She speaks somewhat monotone, but feel free to add anything you see fit to your performance.

Michael Holden is Solitaire's deuteragonist: an optimistic teenage boy who seems to be an odd one out amongst his peers. He is "quirky," and often acts out in silly ways. He enjoys the little things. He has a short temper and can lose it quite quick.
Michael is 17 and British. He is always quite peppy, but when he is upset, he gets very, very serious.

Charlie Spring is a main character. He is Tori’s oldest brother. He is a very nice boy, as Tori calls him, and is often quiet and keeps to himself. He likes dogs, reading, and his boyfriend Nick. He is a protagonist of the webtoon and Netflix series Heartstopper.
Charlie is 15. He has a soft voice. You can use the Netflix series for inspiration, but it is not necessary to match that version of him.

Nick Nelson is a main character. He is Charlie’s boyfriend. He’s athletic and often described as the human equivalent of a golden retriever puppy. He seems intimidating, being his school’s rugby captain, but is, in fact, very lovely. He is a protagonist of the webtoon and Netflix series Heartstopper.
Nick is 17. He is often energetic.

Lucas Ryan is a main character. He is quiet and awkward. He is shown to have very little social skills and an enormous distaste towards school. He clings onto the past.
Lucas is 17. He is quiet and has a soft voice. Because of his awkwardness, he sometimes stumbles over his words.

Becky Allen is one of Solitaire's supporting characters. She is a member of "Our Lot", or what Tori calls her friend group, and she is Tori's best friend. However, she is the polar opposite of Tori. She loves attention, parties, and being popular. She constantly has an "almost-boyfriend."
Becky is 16-17 and British. She has a posh accent, but that isn't completely necessary; if you don't give her one, that's alright.

Anyone of any gender can audition for these roles. All students should be around 15-18 and British, though it doesn't matter what type of British accent. Have fun with it! Feel free to audition with multiple accents!
