Soldier, Poet, King (Original Poetry Project)

Soldier, Poet, King (Original Poetry Project)

Project Overview

Hello there!

My name is Pixie, and I'm the writer and person in charge of this project.

This is a poetic story inspired by the song "Soldier Poet King" by the Oh Hellos. And yes, this is poetry, which means I will be making you speak in rhyme. You're welcome.

I need various VAs for each of my characters to read the parts of the poem which will (hopefully) be spoken over the top of some pretty visuals.

This is my first collaborative project, so patience is appreciated. Unfortunately I can't pay you for your hard work as I just don't have the means to do that right now. This project will be ran and organised over Discord, so having an account on their will be mandatory.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at my little passion project!

Carnation, or the Poet, has the ability to speak poems which predict the future. They are never wrong, and it seems there are no way to stop them. She lives in a forest which is eventually attacked, and joins forces with the Soldier to defeat the King.

When she speaks her predictions, her voice becomes a lot more expressionless, as she has no control over when she says them. At other times, her voice is light and vibrant.

(Imagine a dryad from D&D for a visual reference)

  • All the people stare death and frown,

When they tear the city down

A soldier will come marching through

Knowing that their time is due.

  • Don’t speak fortune woven lies back at me!

Tales poison my mind and clog my mouth.

  • I feel I should barely call you mortal,

You’re cold gutted and clearly not normal.

Robin, or the Soldier, used to be a part of the mechanical army of the evil King, but eventually expressed guilt over their actions, and left to find the Poet in his dreams.

They are genderless, but I have imagined them leaning towards a male voice. Since they are mechanical, it lacks emotion a lot of the time, and almost sounds distant.

(Imagine a warforged from D&D for a visual reference)

  • They will slay you with their tongue.

That is what was said to me.

Because I dream dreams which no one has seen

And I decided to trust them, to believe.”

  • I never had a name, while with the King

    But I have named myself.

    Robins perch on winter leaves.

  • I feel I should barely call you mortal,

Could it be that we are connected by these impossible dreams?

Adrian has sadly handled the burdens of his father's mistakes, and is now possessed by the demons who the old King made a deal with. He is trying to fight back for control, which leads the Soldier and the Poet to come and free him.

He is a young king, dealing with the consequences of other's peoples decisions. He sounds tired and older than he should be.

  • I will fight you,

    My mind is my own.

  • This is no fate of mine!

    It was my father’s fate,

    His mistake

And heavens above it is not be shared,

    With his offspring disgrace!

  • I dreamed of a soldier and a poet,

    Coming to free me.

The Narrator reads a lot of the descriptive parts of the poems AND also voices the minor characters the main heroes interact with. I don't mind the gender of the voice, but they must have the diversity to play the other roles (i.e village elders, other soldiers). I'm looking for a very classic narrator voice, think audio books and podcasts like Welcome to Nightvale.

  • Three pasts, presents and futures intertwine.
    Stars cross,
    Paths align,
They cannot escape what has been foreseen,
This is the tale of the Soldier, the Poet and the King.

  • Carnations sit on stumps of decayed trees,

    Contemplating many possibilities

    Ink drips on green fingers,

    Permanent stains on wordless gods.

  • The other soldiers scorned,

    Shoulders hard and straight.

“We should grab your heart and shut you down.

    That is your fate.”

Very very classic demonic voices. I am either considering layering multiple voices over each other or using voice editing to make it sound raspy and creepy. I'm just going to let you go full demon on this, so have fun.

  • We are not done,

    Not yet.

    We have more to do.

    Our little prince.

Control is not yours to claim,

Your brow is laid with our thorns,

Our pact goes beyond your father’s blood,

And we simply must spill it all.

  • Debts will be paid,

And you will not stop it.

    No fate, future or past,

    Can rearrange this.

  • Whoever said you were the one in control?
