Project Overview
EPIC: The Musical is a complete sung-through musical retelling of Homer's Odyssey by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. It started as his college thesis project at Notre Dame in 2019, blew up on TikTok in 2021, and was released officially as 9 sagas / 2 acts with 40 songs from 2021-2024. It follows Odysseus over 20 years trying to get home to Penelope and Telemachus after the Trojan War, facing gods like Athena, Poseidon, and Zeus, monsters like Polyphemus and Scylla, and moral choices about leadership, pride, and vengeance. The music mixes musical theatre, rock, rap, pop and orchestral styles, with each major character getting their own leitmotif and vocal style.

Odysseus is the King of Ithaca and the hero of Homer's Odyssey — a legendary Greek king famous not for strength but for cunning, nicknamed "man of many wiles." He came up with the Trojan Horse trick to win the Trojan War, but on his way home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus he angered the gods, especially Poseidon, and was cursed to wander the sea for 10 more years, facing monsters like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Circe, the Sirens, and Scylla while slowly losing his crew and learning the cost of his own pride and ruthlessness.

In EPIC: The Musical, Zeus is the King of Olympus and the final, untouchable god Odysseus has to face — he's not just powerful, he is power and divine law. He's voiced by Luke Holt with a huge, deep bass-baritone that sounds like thunder itself, layered with booming choir, electric guitar, and literal thunder crack sound effects. He only shows up in the Thunder Saga for like two songs - "Thunder Bringer" and "Legendary" - but he instantly sets the stakes: cold, godlike, and completely done with humans challenging the gods, so his music feels less like a person singing and more like a storm judging you.
